How is Altair's actor "the weak link"?

Still my favorite in the series.  I loved this game when it came out the same way I love the Hitman games.  This game kept it's identity instead of borrowing from other games and going on treasure hunting detours.  You got what was on the tin.  An assassin game focused on tracking and assassinating your targets.  Not a feather,glyph or almanac page in sight.

@de-ci23 They did the first game right! Great music and impressive sights! Masyaf beats Monteriggioni any day!

Though the endings are never very good, if you enjoy a good narative this series is a must

I've finished this game today and I'm a little bit disappointed to be honest. First of all, the graphics are incredible for a 2006 game. A lot of details and cities filled with places you can discover, rooftops that are smartly designed  and Altaer moves so fluently (although it's sometimes difficult to 'steer' him)! But for the rest, It's not that super. The story is very confusing and the ending is terrible. It's like going through a enormous chaos filled with different not-interesting characters to discover a very cliché ending. The missions structure is very repetitive, it's nine times doing the same thing: get to a city, clear all view points, get your objectives (boring eavesdropping, very simple pickpocketing, lame interrogation en some killings you have to do), and go kill your enemy. It's was doing to same thing over and over to get that one thing you actually want, killing the target. At the end, you're just rushing to kill the targets because you just want to know the ending and get further with your life. It was fun, looks gorgeous,  but it's very repetitive and the story is not that good, but that you discover when you finish it. I would give it a 7/10 max.

@LuckySlevin Do you realize that all your complaints have been voiced before? Pick-pocketing  Eavesdropping, Interrogation, and Saving Citizens were all okay missions you have to admit. The story may have been linear...  As for the rest, we don't care, it's still the best game in the franchise.

 @LuckySlevin

But would you have scored it higher than 7 if you had played it in 2007?  This review was when the game was released unlike ign's review that was this year.  For it's time I think it was worthy of a 8.5 or 9 score rating.  It was a fresh original idea.

Grrrr. I wish Gamespot wouldn't automatically redirect you to the next video. It's a real pain when you're trying to read some of the comments. Good review though. never played this and it's $20 on PSN. I was thinking about getting it.

Great review Gamespot. For anyone calling this game repetitive, the only repetitive thing in the game is the mission structure, but the missions can be approached in different ways to avoid repetition, this game has sword fighting, climbing, horse riding and expiration, and all Call of Duty has is shooting.

He forgot to show the stealth moves. When a group of templars are talking and one all of a sudden falls flat. "Who goes there!" lol.

Kevin lost 90 lbs in a year (check his blog), and he's thin now. He looks great compared to the old, fat Kevin seen here. Assassin's Creed is a great game.

@peanut1229 And you've done a very good job substantiating it. [/sarcasm] Again, what was good about? I liked the innovative stealth gameplay until I murdered my 3218084th victim. Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood are phenomenal because of their fantastic variety of missions, powerful narrative and excellent characters. Assassin's Creed's characters are almost non-existent (and Altair is a little pissball), the story doesn't get interesting until the end, and the missions are the most repetitive pieces of crap I've seen in a video game, and I've played also played pretty much everything, though I'm not sure if your everything is better than my everything so I'll be the mature one and acknowledge that's impossible to tell.

@theshonen8899 Their missions are just AS repetitive. God I've heard the same bull shite from everyone one of you annoyind AC2 fans. Just leave it alone!

How did this get a 9? Was it the repetitive gameplay? The repetitive environments? The horrible characters? The incomprehensible story? The cliffhanger ending?

Also, love Kevin and nearly always agree but disappointed he didn't see the flaws I did and gave it a 9. I'd say more like 7 - 7.5

@Skilnes, completely agree. So frustrating too, kill someone and the guards hunt you for 5 mins. Knock into someone, they hunt you. Run, they hunt you.

Assassin's Creed, honestly, is one of the best new IP's of this generation. The first one was great, but the second one and Brotherhood fixed EVERY SINGLE PROBLEM from the first (also not to mention that the character of Ezio is an improvement over Altair). The story is also awesome. The endings to all of the Assassin's Creeds had me on edge, completely caught me off-guard, and left me wanting more. Even the first one's ending I didn't mind that much. It hyped you up to find out what the hell was going on, so much that AC2 was a day-one purchase.

I actually find the controls pretty "stiff", but it's on the PC for me, so that might have to do with it. It all reacts properly, but sometimes I make a wrong move because movements of your Altaïr-character are a little stubborn. Sometimes I'd just miss a ladder and walk into a wall or walk/jump next to a board that's over a gap between buildings. :P I mean, just because sometimes you're in a flow and it's hard to turn or adjust direction then. Also, I hate the voice-acting of Altaïr. It sounds like an American dude trying to be all "classic/classy English" which he simply fails at. And the voice of Desmond or something only reminds me of Nathan Drake from 'Uncharted', because it IS the same actor. It doesn't seem to be the same person as Altaïr's voice-actor though. Luckily, along with the theme of the game, they changed it into a voice with a proper accent for the second and I guess the third game then too. And yeah, it IS quite repetitive, but since it looks good and it's always interesting to explore and see what happens, it's still an interesting game.
