Creative Director of Criterion Games, A.K.A., the mastermind behind the diabolically fun Burnout series, A.K.A. the man behind the best selling visceral shooter Black, gives up the goods on his past and the action that takes place Behind the Games.
I saw gameplay of this on YouTube, and I thought it looked awesome!
I really want to love this game, but I'm finding it very difficult to forgive it of it's various stress inducing flaws.
Black has the most sluggish, unresponsive controls I've ever encountered.
The framerate can also get pretty terrible at times, but that's not very surprising when you consider how weak the PS2's hardware is. Honestly, this should have been a PC exclusive, because it's simply too ambitious for the ageing hardware of the PlayStation 2. I've never tried the Xbox version, but it probably has less of a problem with lag, but I may very well be wrong. It all depends how much better the graphics are on the Xbox version. But the biggest problem of all is its lack of checkpoints, and the fact the you must complete a mission in a single sitting, because you are unable to continue from a checkpoint if you turn off your console, just like in Call of Duty 2: Big Red One. Considering its relatively high difficulty, it really should have more checkpoints. It's also worth noting that some of the bad guys seem to absorb damage like bullet sponges, but that's not so major when you consider how many hits your character can survive.
All that aside, it has excellent graphics. The explosions are very satisfying and the environments are designed well enough that I won't complain about them. Also, it has excellent sound design just like so many other EA releases.
@tommytwo8s well you know how these publishers do, they wait for it to be truly obsolete and then release it for nostalgic fans to see their fallen game just like sonic adventure 1 and maybe 2. by the time shenmue or black gets released, it will be inferior as fuck.
P to tha R.I.C.K comes to mind no wonder he dosn't work for GS anymore Black was a quality game back in the day and in my opinion still holds it's own to this day. He has done nothing but try to pick fault with the game i can only assume the reason he hates it so much is because he struggled to finish the game on easy while the rest of us were owning on black ops mode. screw you jeff gerstmann and your S to tha HIT review lolzzzz.
His review is okay but he misses the point of the game. It was meant to be gun porn (all shooting without much focus on the story & not much else). When this game came out it wasn't meant for the multiplayer crowd. Last time I checked not everybody plays multiplayer. Then he complains about the length of the game as a negative, really? A game doesn't have to be long to be great. Not every gamer has the time to play all night long, some people work for a living.
He is really hard on such a great game. An excellent shooter, Lots of action, break away, blow up, balls to the wall shooting. Guns look great, like really really great. Here is the truth on TIME. It is NOT a SHORT GAME. Even though the game clock ticks to 6 or seven hours it doesn't take int account the hours upon dozens of hours of sneaking, sniping, hunting, finding, experimenting, where you get killed and bam, game clock resets. So put it on hard and reload. Poor video review.
i agree with 'michaelbryant24.' He didn't say anything good about the game, the graphics are amazing, great explosion, loud guns!!! wat more could u ask for?
granted the game wasnt great but god damn i dont think he said one good thing about it. first of all the graphics were GREAT like seriously there games on ps3/xbox to this day that look worse and he only thinks them to be "sharp"? cmon i know its not call of duty but it was a solid shooter. amd would he quit his nagging about the length! jesus christ what shooter have you played that lasts more than 10 hours. i beat cod4 and modern warefare 2 in 6 hours each but i dont hear people complaining about the damn length
The game has/had a high "been there, done that" feeling, even in 2006. It launched at the end of the xbox/ps2 true life cycle, and if were released couple years prior, it would have received higher reviews. It's a really cheesy, cinematic experience, but thinking back to 2006, I remember feeling like a complete badass seeing the ragdoll physics after pulling off a headshot.
I actually loved this game. Lotta simple, over-the-top fun. It just always bothered me that guns like the AK here had a 60 round magazine and an ejection port on the WRONG SIDE. Still though, it was amusing enough.
