i have to say it...good guide though, but once you put an ACOG scope on a sniper rifle there are accruacy issues since you cant stop the swaying of the scope.
Tested this myself using an ACOG M40, R700, and Dragonov on Kill house. Fired from across the map into the kahki canvas as fast and accurately as possible, using the entire ammo pool.
Dragonov cluster was spread out, even had a couple rounds go out of the canvas square and into the one above it.
R700 was more clustered, but still had some wild shots.
The M40 was the most clustered with all of the shots in a U shape (4 shots composed a straight line on top)
Bottom line is, the R700 and the M40 both had shot clusters that could be visible through the ACOG scope from about 9 feet from the canvas. So I would say there is an accuracy line that comes into play once you factor in an ACOG scope and lose the abiltity to steady your shot via holding your breath

Well, that is the downfall of the Acog.
If Acog had no sway then more people would use it.
Example:
On Assault rifles.
G3, M14, M16 have no sway with RDS.
But on ACOG they do.
If Acog didnt have sway i would probably use it instead of RDS.

Well, I strapped an acog on an m40 and shot right at someones chest one foot in front of me and it didn't even register. Want to explain that? Lag?

It was probly his uppermost body.
or chest.
or he was weak.
Aug 18, 2008 7:22 pm GMT
[WARNING: Wall-o-text approaching]
Bone: In all likely hood, it was because he was weak. I have used the Dragonov with Stopping Power and put bullets center mass (for those who dont know, thats the area around ur heart) on standing still targets and it still took 2 shots to take them out.
ssj3: Besides the sway another draw back to ACOG scope is that it takes away your zoom as well as accuracy you get with the standard scope. However, for some people its a drawback. Others its more of an advantage because you can see more of an area using the ACOG and thereby be able to track and kill targets fairly easier.
Raven: I have had that happen to me a couple times, both when someone is right in front of me or when sniping behind cover. It has nothing to do with what scope you use, it has to do with the game code and the length of the gun barrel. When you fire your gun, the bullet comes from around the middle of the barrel, not the breach of the gun as you would think.
Shorter barreled rifles (R700, M21) seem to have thier shots hit what ever is in front of you that you use for cover. Just to clarify, I mean when you are taking an angled shot and are up against your cover spot. One major area this can happen is on the Crossfire map at opposite ends of the street
The longer barreled rifles (Dragonov, M40A1, Barett.50 Cal,), while not having the cover problem, have the problem of having their barrels actually go through the model of your target when you are point blank. So when you fire the gun, though it looks like the barrel is right against your target, in actuality the shot goes through the model without any damage done.
Other times, yes indeed it can be lag. On game types with a kill cam, there will be instances where on your screen you fired first and/or moved to the side. Yet the kill cam shows you not firing at all and/or that your opponent moved beyond where your gun is pointing, turned and killed you. This can and will happen, and there really isn't anything you can do about it.
And finally, Uryuu: Since you are such a great sniper perhaps you can provide us some pearls of your wisdom. Just some small piece of intellectually understandable advice so that the rest of us snipers, the ones who wish to help our fellow snipers by contributing to this topic, can realize your supreme talent. Until such that time you see fit to do so, I advise you to keep your head down lest someone like me pops it off like an overripe zit. Have a nice day.

Well said. I also use the M40 w/ACOG sometimes and notice that sometimes I'll have the triangle on them point blank and fire...and it wont hit them. I noticed this a lot on Broadcast. About 5 out of 10 shots total did this. Very aggravating.

Oops forgot to mention the zoom thing, but then again isnt it implied?
Anyway, is that barrel stuff true? Because i dont think i have any problems with the snipers whatsoever except for lag of course. And i use the Barrett! Which i THINK has the longest barrel?
But anyway, thank you for that. Maybe you should have made this topic =P

ssj, it doesnt happen with every map. Crossfire is the only map where I have had that problem with the shorter barrel rifles. I have had it, literally, where my target was in my cross hairs but when I fired the shot I saw a plume of dust from my cover. And when I looked, there was a nice bullet hole too.
As for the zoom, not quite implied. When you unlock the ACOG scope for any gun, the description reads "Enhanced zoom scope". If your a new comer and, like me in that I got my first ACOG on a sniper rifle (M21 for me =p), you read that you think "Enhanced zoom? Ooh, maybe I can change zoom range" or something to that effect.
And no, not my topic lol. I'm not a huge fan of numbers, I just use what works best for me. Sometimes the numbers back me up, other times they contradict me. *shrug*

When i first played this game at a friends i was not a big fan of the sniper rifles but have started using them a lot more on particular maps.
The more i use other rifles they all just keep bringing me back to the M40, with standard scope, tried the acog scope but after trying to use it to snipe people the entire length of crossfire with not so much luck because you could barely see them and the scope was all over the place, i went back to standard scope and havn't looked back,
90% of my kills are one hit, generally chest, head if they are stationary so feel no need to use the acog and i am much more accurate with the standard scope and sometimes where if i could only see a little part of the enemies head with the standard scope its a guaranteed head shot where i know if i was using the acog it would not be and shooting through something would not be a one hit either.
I personally like the little extra zoom of the standard scope.
I guess what i am getting to is everyone on the boards talks about the M40 acog and its amazing.... and well i am saying it is not really all that great imo if you are decent with the aiming and hit head or chest you don't need the little extra power boost not to mention you loose accuracy and range from your scope. The acog might be worth it if you are no scoping but other than that i think the standard scopes are better
