A wonderful game. It's too rare now that a game connects with [our] gamer-spirit the way CQ does. The adventure was reminiscent of joyful & exciting gaming experiences of my youth. Thanks Double Fine! Keep up the great work.

I just picked this up online and I am loving it. I don't care about the childish look because there are still some good moments to be had in this game. Some of the jokes involved children wouldn't get. Also, maybe it's due to the lack of RPG's out there that I like it so much. Awesome game!
1 Like Oftentimes, I think these reviewers lean more toward source material than the game itself. If this were another FPS or urban crime or military shooter game, he'd be jumping out of his seat. But then again, most reviewers are bought anymore.
Gamespot should review games with a less biased enthusiasm. If it were an fps the reviewer would be drolling so much it wouldnt be able to speak. but since its a different kind of game then its tedious and boring. not sure about this game but usually the case with gamespot reviewing.
1 Like hmmmmm paper mario was an even more simple rpg than this and got, what? a 9? just for its personality? Sometimes i really wish games got higher scores for using new premises and new characters and lower ones every time they bank on an old franchise.
Wowa that was fast, I tried the demo it was kinda boring. Since I have Demons souls no need for a childish RPG
The only thing that Im not a big fan of is the lack of replayability. I just with there was a hard mode or co-op (as there is more than one party member) or extra costumes/battle stamps or upgrades to costumes.
2 Like Im really confused with gamespot right now because Ive actually bought this game and loved it. Ok, so I cant argue with the fact that its not a fully fledged RPG with branching skill trees etc etc but this is a DLC game! You dont expect a full gaming blockbuster when you download it. Also, the whole review seems to be negative from the start. The battles are definetely not tedious at the start, they actually made me laugh out loud when the costumes transformed and they just become even more fun each time you do them, and you cant really moan about the fact that you have to knock on each door to move onto the next are because thats just how this game deals with you having to grind to a certain level. I never found it hard to buy the battle stamps because you can find candy pretty much anywhere and what the hell is he on about with the framerate issues? I never got any issues with this game whatsoever. I thought that the artwork and style was a perfect fit for this game, even during battle. What the hell is he on about when he says the artwork is overshadowed by cluttered display information, there is hardly any to speak of? During battle theres only the essentials, health of each party member at the bottom left and health of each enemy on the bottom right and during exploration you just have the costumes exploration ability top right and candy bottom left. Then theres your menu but that a completely different screen.
Costume quest isnt a great game but it is a good game and totally worth 15$ the games has some texh issues but still it is fun to play it and it is entertaining. after playing it i realise it is a great game if you wanna introduce someone (like a girlfriend maybe) to the rpg games.
This is the same guy that reviewed Castlevania, however there has been a little bit of improvement. Your talking speed has been slowed down a bit, but you still sound monotone. Plus it sounds like you're reading off a sheet of paper, which adds boredom. Add more emphasis to your dialogue and you'll be ok ;)
this game is more for a 9-12 year old. it has that cartoon look but still has that adult RPG feel. demo was good.
It takes 2 hours to unlock all the features? Nooo!!!! This guy always turns a positive (in this case depth) into a negative. He also sounds like a nervous first grader rushing through his first show and tell.
Dear Gamespot, why is it so difficult (impossible) to know from the information on your site if a game is downloadable only or physical distribution ? I don't find this information even in the "Game Details" section. Please fix this, in these times it is becoming really annoying. Thanks.
isnt this that same guy that sat there and said how cute kirby was? Price per hour says this game should be on score par with that game. this game is very short vs kirby game is longer this game was 15 vs kirby that was 50 this game has what I believe is called cell shaded simple graphics but is in hd vs kirby that looks ok, but is a typical don't sit too close to the game, because low def takes over. This game you can die, but you start off right before the fight vs kirby you can't die and no time limit This game equals simple childish fun with somewhat adult level challenge vs Kirby that game equals fun with little to no adult level challenge I'm sure if you do the math for quality per hour, it should at least be the same. what gives here? Why one low score on one kids game and not the other?
this looks like heaps of fun. Although I haven't even played this game yet I can't wait for the second one to come out.
What he implies is that putting some time in to collect costumes is BAD... but who wants all the goodies right up front? It's supposed to be a QUEST isn't it?
Just beat the game and throughly enjoyed every minute of it. Kinda brings back memories of being a young kid again. 10/10 in my opinion
i hate to say it but his fast talking monotone voice almost puts me asleep, like Ruperttrooper said it sounds like he's reading it off of a sheet of papre

Oh, I'm going to check this game, it looks so cute "Mature 17+ - Blood and Gore - Intense Violence" WHAT "Advertisement" Oh. Right. Misplaced advertisement, too. Anyways, the game doesn't seem to be worth a full 15 dollars. I might check it out if it ever goes for, say, $7.49. Definitely very cute, though.

This game's demo was pretty funny and cute. At least kids will sure like it, but the price is a little too high.
this game looks awesome. but then again i might not get it since, you know, like he said the battle screen gets a little cluttered haha.. gimme a break.
@skunknuts If you are referring to me and the guy that doesn't leave things be. I actually don't care that they gave it a 7. I thought it looked really fun when I first saw it and will probably be getting it soon.
real shame it's not on the PC. BTW, Giancarlo Varanini, try and sound a little interested next time.
Out of curiosity, I checked out the demo. Instantly, I fell in love with the game and it's adorable style. I happily slapped money down for this little game. Definitely recommend it for RPG fans and anyone who loves trick or treating. =D
