Environmental Hazards seem to be a current trend in a couple of fighting games like "Injustice: Gods Among Us" and "Dead or Alive 5,' which is okay by me, to be honest.
Good Preview Impressions, by the way.

GameSpot's Giancarlo Varanini and Maxwell McGee get their mitts on the latest build for Dead Or Alive 5 and give their impressions from the Team Ninja event.

I wish I could get this game, time-travel back to uni, and play it long into the night with my housemates the way we used to with DoA Ultimate (DoA2). The very pinnacle of the fighting game genre.
Im curious to how the QTEs work. Im worried about it. But there is a chance they can make it work. Cant tell yet. Only when I have the controller in my hand will I know if it feels cool. Loving the character models. Loved the old ones (not sure why so many people disliked them) But its a nice change that I think was needed.
cant wait i just hope the game can still kick ass with out Tomonobu Itagaki in my book doa is the top fighting game its all about skill nothing more
Great reporting. But since this dude is obviously not a fan, keep your opinions to yourself. I don't care what u find annoying. Your not a fan. Respect the franchise. Maybe if you didn't look like such a HOMO it would b better. Future reference. opinions to yourself.
Totally agree with kozakon DOA has the best fighting fluidity and movement realism of every fighting game ever made. I just hope that it still be there on this new version...otherwise I'll still play with my PS2 version of DOA Hardcore! lolll By the way....can't wait to see the lovely Kasumi again....hummmmm :)))
Finally after seven years another Dead or Alive Game!!! Favorite fighting series and one of my favorite game franchises of all time!!! Differently buying this game day one!!!
really annoying commercial and i'm starting to wonder if these guys get paid per minute talked or per word or something, less talk, more action or at least get a babe to do the talking :p the game footage looks great tho
The characters sweat...Profusely...Man we are in for some Dead Or alive mixed with dead or alive extreme voleyball action :P
In all honesty, I like every single thing he mentioned. Even the falling objects bit.
If not for those lovely girls I'd skip this game in a heartbeat. QTEs do not belong in a fighting game, there's enough guesswork to begin with! Go online and watch people throw out 3 completely random counters in a row without you even attacking.
so....since when ''the classic doa'' is very slow??? what?!? has this guy ever played a doa game before this?
I like that the characters look like full 3-d models instead of cartoonny. What i mean is that they look realistic.
this game will be perty & fun, give u a break from SCV on another note: where can i get that fireplace screensaver?
Falling debris that does damage? No fair. I might be skipping this game. I'll wait for the review before I decide to pick it up or not.
I'm not 100% sold on these cinematic action sequences they're trying to fuse in. Team Ninja's mantra at the moment seems to be everything should have QTE in it. I wonder what does Itagaki-san think of these. I'm definitely buying DOA 5, just not hyped up for the QTE quackery.
In all honesty? This hanging from the cliff stuff reminds me of Super Smash Bros. cause that's exactly what you'd be doing in that game minus the Quick Time Event aspect(please see the Starfox stage before comment). The offscreen debris falling in the midst of a match is not really new as it is more an extension of the off the screen incoming vehicle interference that was done in that one vegas traffic stage where you had to dodge the incoming traffic by either jumping or using holds on the incoming cars in DOA4. So more of the same but vertical?
man i cant wait for this, looks like a fresh take on a fighting game, sort of...
eh, sounds boring. SCV seems like a lot more worth it. No character creation in DOA5?? why bother when SCV will have it
whats with this dude? every time he tells us about a cool new feature it sounds like hes so bummed about it. im looking forward to the new stuff they really seem to add to the flair while keeping the core game play intact. oh and why would some one think there wouldn't be new stuff in this, or not want new stuff? this is Dead or Alive 5 not Dead or Alive 4.1....i guess Dimensions was like the 4.1 lol
The guy on the left sounded like he just let a load go off in his pants talking about Hitomi sweating.
DOA coming to a Nintendo "console"? Amazing, I would so get it...hmm unless I can get hands on a HD version, although the graphics dont look too impressive compared to Tekken/Soul Calibur =/ I'm still a fan of the series and will get it regardless. Also more gaming footage, less interviewer footage~
im calling it , nintendo announce this for wii u due to the success of dimensions on 3ds
this video is horrible.. Whoever the interviewer is needs to be fired from gamespot. He's so boring i dont even care to know his name. Any video he's in makes me turn the video off and wish i never wasted my time. He's like ben styne from the red eye commercials but worse. At least ben styne is unique boring... this guy is just comatose boring. I love dead or alive and ninja gaiden, but i couldnt enjoy the exclusive previews because of him.
I think adding a cinematic aspect to a game, at least in terms of the finishers or specials, isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think the visual flair of something like that is entertaining, but it can detract from the control of the game if handled too loosely or used too heavily. If they can manage to incorporate a nice rewarding cinematic finisher or environmental take down, unique to the DOA series, but keep it sparse and triggered upon skill rather then button mashing, it could be pretty awesome. Either way, one of my more anticipated games of '12, or '13? Maybe? Hopefully not that far away.
DOA is the most balanced fighting game ever made, no cheapness in this game, all pure skill
Being a DOA fan from the start, I have to say that while DOA5 somewhat concerns me, I'm glad that they are trying to distance themselves from other fighters even more. Concerned mostly because what they are doing to distance themselves from the other fighters is what they (the gamespot dudes anyway) are already calling 'gimmicky', but at least they are taking a chance and trying something new. Looks like it'll still be a while before it's released anyway, so anything can happen. Regardless though, I'm glad they are taking a risk. I think what they do here is going to make or break the series once and for all (praying it's not break).
Looks kinda terrible. The camera is far too erratic and dizzying, and quick time events only take control away from the players. Really, cinematic attacks and kills are an awful, AWFUL addition to a game trying to be taken seriously. They're distracting and damage interactivity and gameplay. I loved DOA2, but come on.. This stuff turns the game into a joke, not an entertaining one either.
I might grab Ninja Gaiden III but I'm not too interested in DOA5 especially after hearing this..... This one just sounds about as spammy and gimmicky as the rest of the series.
without Itagaki on this I wonder if the they'll give as much attention to the physics as past DOA titles
