The first time I heard about this game I thought “Man, I should buy this. You can fly in the heavens like goku, you can beat all the villains of dragon ball z, you can become a super saiyan and you can blast things with awesome powers…this must be the greatest DBZ game ever” Well guess what? It’s not.
A friend of mine lent me this game just to test it for a couple of hours, when I played it I realized that this is a crappy game, I mean, when I thought about flying in the heavens I was talking about flying in the whole planet earth saving it from the bad guys not hovering in the ground like in this game. Beating the DBZ villains…yeah right, like beating the life out of some saibamen would be fun (at the first ten seconds it is) Become a Super Saiyan, well I must admit the transformation is really cool! But you are not that strong like in the anime you’re only a little faster and the meter that tells you how long you’ll be a super saiyan drops really fast so, you only enjoy this for a minute or so. About the blowing things like a maniac…it’s not that big deal, you can only blow some stuff like rocks or trees.
The game mechanic is like this: Run, Fight grunts, keep running, fight more grunts, run, fight, run (again) and fight a boss. As you can see the game is quite simple.
The bosses aren’t that challenging (You can beat raditz in two minutes). The only one that was some serious trouble was cell in the final stage but when you become SS2 Gohan, after some punches he is down.
The game is too short and I mean really short. At the beginning of this review you may notice that a friend of mine lent me this game for some hours, I cleared this game in four or five hours (I don’t want to remember).
After you beat the game you unlock the pendulum room (Yay!! A different game another story, Majin Buu…who knows?) But when you play this, it is the same game only that you can play it with all the characters (like there were so many) same stage, same gameplay, same story…sigh.
The music is really bad you get sleepy after some minutes of listening to it.
The only things I liked of this game are: When you become a Super Saiyan (The explosion is quite a detail) and when you play with Broly (You can beat anyone with him really fast) aside that this game sucks.
Now I know I was soo wrong about this game, it’s nothing I expected. The Atari guys who made this game said “Okay it’s done leave it like this no more changes, people are going to love this game, now let's go get some beers”. I think if they put their minds into it the could have created a revolutionary game, but they didn’t so here is what happened a crappy game.
I recommend this game only to the fans and make sure it’s your last choice because you can always get something better.
