Don Cheadle Talks Iron Man 3

By Sara Lima

Comic-Con 2012: Don Cheadle (AKA War Machine) and Shane Black drop some details on Tony Stark's next appearance.

The big highlight at the Marvel booth today was the signing featuring actor Don Cheadle as well as Iron Man 3 film director Shane Black. Cheadle, who will reprise his role as War Machine in Iron Man 3 revealed that his costume will be getting some interesting modifications. We also check in with Black to see why the director chose Warren Ellis’ ‘Extremis’ story arc as the outline for his script, and what it’s like taking the reigns of the Iron Man movie franchise.

They both look like they are just itching to get back to their hotel so they can do a few lines, drink a few dozen cocktails,  and forget they had to get interviewed all day at Comic Con.

Call me crazy but I quite liked Iron Man 2 game so I wish they bring in the 3rd game too. BUT

- Co-op. Seriously Iron Man and War Machine playable but no co-op?

- Open New York mode next to the story mode. Story areas are a bit restrictive. I wish they took a note from best Spiderman and Hulk games and have open NY with dynamic missions involving Blizzard, Living Laser, MODOK and more. Flying around NY stopping criminals and then going back to Stark Tower to do upgrades would be awesome

- Talking about upgrades and weapons there should be more. Build our own armor and weaponry from the ground up if we want. Make a super light, fast and energy efficient weakly armed one or a full sized clumsy Hulkbuster.

Hopefully it'll be good. Heard that AIM will be in it, so that might be interesting. But right now, the only movie I care about is The Dark Knight Rises.

I know how this goes, after the 3rd movie the series gets rebooted and everyone will say the original movies sucked and the new reboot is the greatest thing ever.

Rinse and repeat.

@SciFiCat That's Hollywood for you. We've seen more reboots in the past few years than original stories from these so called "writers". While I did enjoy the original Spider-Man, I personally do prefer the reboot, because the performances of the actors was better in my opinion. Sadly, every trailer they showed before the movie was for movies I had seen growing up, i.e. Robocop, Judge Dredd, Jason Bourne. I would be ashamed to call myself a "writer" for Hollywood these days.

@Biggs613 All the stories are already told. The writers have just accepted that. Why make up a new story about a cyborg cop when Robocop already exists

@PrpleTrtleBuBum Your question is exactly the point, why do it if it already exists? That argument is almost like a student saying "I'm just going to plagiarize my work because somebody has already written a paper on this, but I should still get credit for it." But, to each his own, I guess.

I'm not really feeling Iron Man 3....and that means a lot considering he's my favorite super hero. It just seems weird... the Mandarin was apparently casted, theirs sots of the Iron Patriot... god knows what this film will be about -.-

It's always worrisome when a great movies series changes directors.

@GreySeven Not really, Iron Man 2 was shit so there's no high bar to catch up to.

@phagans Actually Thor was crap, Iron Man 2 was pretty decent as sequels go. Bringing in the Mandairin should up the action.

@zzanzabar Actually, I thought Iron Man 2 was crap. It was a linear regurgitation of Iron Man in a sense of Tony Stark unearthing greater discoveries, etc., minus the sincere emotional element that made Iron Man 1 so profound. Iron Man 2 was director Jon Favreau being self-indulgent.

Thor was decent, but seemed to target Iron Man's emotional aspect of the main character being grounded in humility before being a true hero. Still, Thor is better than Iron Man 2 since it presents a moral to be learned. So I would rank the three movies as:

Iron Man > Thor > Iron Man 2
