GameSpot's Far Cry 3 game guide helps you learn the most efficient ways to tame the jungle. Or... ways to set the world on fire.
Notes On Weapons
A silenced sniper rifle may wind up being your most-used weapon, so get one early.
Far Cry 3 has dozens of weapons available to you for use. At first you'll only be able to carry one weapon at a time, but as you craft more holsters, you'll eventually be able to net four guns at a time. In general, one of those slots should always be an assault rifle, as that's what most of your enemies will carry, allowing you to easily restock on ammo out in the field by running over their weapons when they die. The other three slots are your choice, but we'd always recommend bringing a silenced sniper rifle along for attacking strongholds. A rapid-fire shotgun is often a good friend when trudging through the forest, as it's usually the quickest way to take down a predator animal that gets your scent. Later in the game, when money isn't so much of an issue, a good LMG will be an excellent choice, as they can be fired for long periods of time without reloading and are pretty accurate even at long ranges. Restocking ammo for an LMG can cost 800 or a thousand dollars for a full load, though, so you'll either want to be wealthy before whipping it out, or have a good ammo box available to you.
Also, be sure to periodically check your in-game handbook to note when you can unlock new Signature Weapons. Signature weapons are extra-strong versions of the most advanced weapons in the game, and are usually outfitted with more weapon attachments than the base weapons can normally handle. You can unlock almost all of these weapons early on in the game, with the exception of the Signature Assault Rifle, which can only be unlocked after you reach the south island. Still, unlocking the Ripper LMG will make most firefights a cinch. Note that the Signature sniper rifle does not come with a suppressor, and since you can't choose which attachments these weapons come with, you may want to stick with a regular sniper rifle instead of using it.
You get new signature weapons for collecting 10 relics, another at 20 relics, for collecting 10 memory cards (these seem to always be in the safehouses in cleared outposts), for attempting (not necessarily winning) six Trials of the Rakyat, clearing out half of the outposts in the game, and for clearing all of the radio towers in the game. Again, all of these objectives save for the radio towers are completable almost as soon as you start the game, if you're willing to avoid pursuing the main quest and instead focus on exploring the north island. Signature weapons will be expensive, but they're worth it.
Need to set something on fire? A flare gun's not a bad choice.
Here are a few more notes to keep in mind when selecting weapons.
- Most of the weapons available to you are very expensive at the beginning of the game, with some costing more than you can fit in your starter wallet. You can get more weapons for free in stores either by climbing to the top of radio towers and switching off the scramblers there, or by killing enemies, picking up their weapons, and bringing them back to a gun vendor. That'll let you get them anytime you wish in the future, at no cost.
- Restocking on ammo in shops can be expensive. Luckily, there are a few ammo boxes in the game world that'll let you top off for free. Many of these only appear during missions, but some continue to exist even while you explore the world. For instance, there's one in a hut near the radio tower northwest of the Dry Palm Storage Depot on the south island. Knowing that you can restock ammo for free will let you be much more loose with LMG ammo while fighting enemies. Just be aware that you don't restock grenades or explosives from ammo boxes.
- Setting the fields aflame with a flare gun was mindless fun in Far Cry 2, but it's less useful in Far Cry 3. Most of the enemies you encounter will be found either in outposts or on the road, the dirt of which is not very conducive to being set alight. If you can force enemies to pursue you into a field, you can use a flare gun to quickly overwhelm them with fire, but that's nothing that a few cheap molotovs won't do, and they don't take up a weapons slot. HItting an enemy square-on with a flaregun is almost always a kill, though, even if you hit a heavy gunner. Likewise, while the flamethrower is technically fun, its range is so limited that you'll almost always be better off with a shotgun.
- Using grenades is great fun, but keep in mind that C4 is more powerful and can be triggered manually, making it a great tool against slow-moving enemies like heavies, or parked cars with gunners. C4 is awfully expensive, but it can be the most devastating tool in your inventory when used properly.
- Likewise, mines are pretty fun to use when you can be sure that an enemy will be passing through a chokepoint to get to you, but enemy gunfire can set them off from a distance, so if you lay down a mine, be sure you move far away from it before you expect your foes to trip it.
- The bow is a fun weapon, and one that offers a bit of flexibility when you unlock the ability to craft explosive and fire arrows. Its range is very poor when compared to a silenced sniper rifle, though, and the drop of your projectiles will make it difficult to hit anything that's not fairly close to you. Some missions and Path of the Hunter sidequests will require you to use the bow, however, so it's worth putting some points in the bow-enhancing skills.
I've done most... But left some missions for last? Now there's no one to kill?!lol! Do rogue pirates turn up bc I haven't found many? Instead now I just set traps for islanders! There not happy... Any ideas ? Anyone? Apart, from finishing the game off? Which I kind of... Don't want 2? Cheers

I'm playing fc3 on ps3 but got stuck at killing Hoyt in the knife fight.
I get only 3 buttons, the X, the square, the O, but then no fourth button!
Each time Hoyt stabs me and I die.
Saw a clip where the player also at first got only 3 buttons but after reloading he got the fourth, a square again.
Still I only get 3 buttons
Anyone know what to do?
Here's what I used:
Round 1- X, Square, O, Square
Round 2- Square, O
Round 3- Square, O, X
Round 4- Square, O, Square, O
Its all in the timing. Hitting key early better than late.
Hope that helps. Took me a few tries to get the timing.
Hi everyone, Im playing FC3 on PS3 but got stuck at killing Hoyt. In the knife fight I get the X button, ten the Square, and then the O button, then NO more buttons appear and each time I get knifed down by Hoyt.
Anyone know what to do?
I saw 1 clip where the player first also got 3 buttons ( xbox) and after he died and reloaded THAN got the 4th button.
Still I only keep getting 3 buttons?
What do you after paying good money and you don't complete a level the games over and your only half way through. Maybe that's why they call it Far Cry.
far cry 3
I've finished the game got all the found all things in the handbook but still dont have the last weapon onlocked and game says 99% done. Anyone tell me what i'm missing?
Could that knife have been sold before by any chance? Cuz I remember selling a ceremonial knife at a weapon dispenser but I hadnt given it a second thought, but when I go to Denis the mission does not seem to initiate. Or is it just a glitch?
Me saying games cant be blamed was a lil unexplained, games can be blamed if false or true, butThey cant be blamed for people actions in this context, they can be blamed for things that dont pertain to human behavioral actions , its the persons personal choice, oh and just in my opinion i love farcry 3 havent picked up another game and have had my mind buried in the game bcuz its so addicting lol
1998 was one of the best gaming years on record, and games will never be like they you to thats why their considered classics, just like cars and movies, they change with time and theres haters that always bash the new or the old and so on, the best way to look at things in my opinion is respect the originals and the glory they brought to the gaming industry and enjoy the new experiences game designers try to bring, i have high respect for the gaming community not only because im become a game designer and am an avid gamer, but because of how much ridicule and blame that news and others throw at us blaming us for the school shootings and numbing of violence in children, which even with all the testing and experiments we get put through always come up in conclusive, why? Because just like cars are responsible gor drunk drivers or guns arnt reposible for killing people, games are a form of entertainment and cant be blamed for anything, and we have ratings for a reason, the human pschy in each person is different in each person and different things can trigger a more violent ir numbing reaction, anyway enough rambling and going off topic, games go up and down, each person has preferences, so dont blame the game , its just not your thing, and play the game atleast through half in my opinions, tutorials and first few missions arnt a good first opinion in most cases if it starts off bad
hello gamers when farcry3 is completed will any gamer be playing
deadspace3 when it is released in feb.iam a fan of this game and i
would like to know is there any gamers who are fans of deadspace
It is an outstanding game and I'm astounded that the camera/stones glitch is not being discussed here ? having looked into it since glitching 2 days ago I have discovered posts related to this bug on forums from WEEKS ago ! it breaks the game for us affected by it as you cant continue the story without the camera SPOILER ALERT (scripted spotting of enemies )and you cant abandon this particular mission and at least enjoy the free roam which is terrific.
Does anyone else go shark hunting with a jet ski? You just ram into the thing then swim down and fetch the skins.
Please-Im playing this game on PS3.Am stuck in the Nostagia Boat mission.Cannot get past the guy who ambushes me underwater.I keep pressing the "MASH" button, and keep getting killed.Have gone thtough it 50 TIMES!! Its so frustrating with some games with these ridiculously hard sections, which seem like a fluke when u finally do it.Ruins the replay value of some games.Despite that, its a great game.Would appreciate a hint guys.Thank you.
@peterb2222 try firing on the Nostalgia from a gunboat w a machine gun. you can take out many of the enemy that way, including the sniper up top. Enjoy - the machine gun has limitless ammo. 8-)

If you can't pass something in Far Cry 3, lower the difficulty. If that doesn't work, you should give up gaming all together.....
Trainers are for losers.
I can't believe how many people are complaining about Ubisoft being on top of the patches. I remember when Black and White came out (with equal hype), it was almost unplayable, and Lionhead went on vacation and didn't release the first patch for months. You do realize they don't burn the dvds the day before launch, right?
@cleopete I finished the game super fine without a single patch. Testers have done marvelous job!
@cleopete ah! an ancient gamer after my own heart. Lionhead released a playable version from day one....nice try.
I guess Im in the minority but I am extremly dissapointed in farcry3.The 1st mission where 3 guys drive u to an enemy camp and tell u to secure it.So I go running in proceding to chase the stupid enemy around the camp blowing each one easily away.(they dont seem to notice me running up to them, pointing my gun and blowing out their brains). Then my fellow soldiers come into camp praising me for a job well done and how I impressed them. The 2nd time I repeated this mission I stood at the crossroad to the camp and just fired off a few rounds. My fellow soldiers me to watch it with my gun, then the enemies came running down the road and while I hid in the woods, my soldiers killed all the enemy and once again praised me for my bravery and skill. How is this challenging? And its not very open world when I can only move around the mission area("mission will fail if u leave mission area").And I dont need big flashing dots to follow someone or to tell me where to go or who to kill.Too much handholding.(play"Black Mesa" and you will see what I mean.) I said I wouldnt buy farcry3, but I gave it a chance, and once again, Im dissappointed.
I have a right to complain;I paid over 50.00$ for this...game.As a matter of fact, I bought all 3 far cry gamesfor 50.00$ each(thats 150.00$ total for the math deficient) and I only really liked the 1st one(even with its flaws). And farcry3 is not as open world as games like: crysis1 ,stalker(all 3 games),elder scrolls - oblivian and skyrim, and others.
and the idea that they force me to install their crapware "uplay" to play the game. if I had known, I never would have bought the game!
Ur a tight ass mate!? U cannot complain about this game & there are one or two things that annoyed me?! But... U can easily overlook that fact!? 5/5 from me! FC3 is totally beyond FC2? Sorry, but do u expect from a game? Maybe pc 13+ is more to ur suiting?
@doktron means its not ur type , not every game is for every one . not all games are made according to me ,we have different choices in our life so its for different gamers. be happy good luck.
@doktron Have you played it past the first mission? You are judging the game on the first mission alone? This is one of the most open world games I have seen for a FPS and the mission area only applies when you have an objective on the go, not just exploring.
How do you think they sell a game to 10 year old kids that have hard to play game..and all the flashing signs to let yo no which way you can or can't find anything, or you leave the little stamp maps ( It seems to me they had to make close in fighting on the latest games to cope with small maps to run on consoles/ boy I remember the good old days when map size wasn't a problem when playing on a computer ) I played Far Cry original and still have more fun than the new # 2 they put in to try and make it better but in my view they broke the darn game..Now it's just a mindless game to make money off the original that was awesome to play. Only thing I like about the new game is the SHARK and it was sent over from the original to give the new one some substance LOL..........CHEERS
@doktron Breaking News: this game wasn´t created according to your idea of perfect game :(
@doktron This is why I dont buy before I hear the sorrow of those who do. I was you once. I had trust in those that made games. This sadly is the trend of gaming gaming now. Like the fall of the Romans, the golden age is passed and we fearfully await the barbaric Huns to invade and finish the fat fuc*s that feed on what's left of what was once great.
@M3o5nster @Metroididiot @doktron We are not fan boys. We are true Gamers. We have no agenda other than to make games better for gamers. All other contrary comments can only be described as shills. Integrity died in this market in 2006 and all true Gamers await its return. Here's hoping doktron.....
@moc5 @Metroididiot @doktron . I try not to let the glory days ruin what fun times there are left to be had... There is such a thing as being overcritical, and it seems Dok has taken that route. What game has perfect A.I.?
That first camp, is just an intro to the structure of the camp system... All the other camps you can approach from any direction you wish and by any means. Want to hang-glide into the camp, land on a roof, then ambush a distracted foe from above? You can do that. The same can't be said for many out games out right now...
FC3 may not be the best game I've ever played, but it gets my vote for GOTY.
too bad there are so few of us left these days.
