The problems I can see from the videos is that the karts don't feel that fast... I think the maps are too wide and big compared to the size of the vehicles so it looks like the karts are chugging along as 5 miles per hour. I like the concept though!
We land on the LittleBigPlanet Karting Beta and explore the customisable chaos that it has to offer.
LittleBigPlanet Karting brings all the charm and charisma (and Stephen Fry) of the franchise to the frenetic karting genre. Plus, it's got all of the crazy weaponry and eccentric terrain you'd expect from a kart racer, right down to the devastating blue weapon that homes in on first place. What's unique about LittleBigPlanet's take on the genre is its wealth of customisation options, from karts to characters to planets to tracks. The track editor in particular is surprisingly sophisticated and technical, yet manages to be accessible and friendly to use for beginners too.
We took Sackboy on a roadtrip for your viewing pleasure, check out what we found below:

I am getting this game because I played the beta and it was awesome, I can't say that about most games, the last beta game that I liked was BF3 and I can't stop playing it. What I like about this game is the creativity that people have, I could be driving thru limbo and in the next minute I could be playing free for all but with cars. Tell me another game that could do that. Oh and one more thing I get to transfer all of my LBP characters to this game, some of my characters are drake from the uncharted series, Pirates of the Caribbean, cole from infamous, the avengers, kratos from god of war, ghost ryder, and SSIV characters. Those are just the characters I have but they are alot more in the LBP store.
ive been waiting for this. i was never much of a level designer with the originals but ill spend all day making a race track !!!
it sems as though more effort was put into the creativity and not the karting. the karts are slow the boost isn't powerful what so ever. the whole drift to use boost slows down the pace of the game. evrything else is fine in the game. To me modnation is a better game as far as racing karts but creativity LBP still rules. And its still a awesome game
@JBjazzbo you can do all of what you are saying... If you played the beta you would know this. Just frustrates me when people say this is a modnation re-skin?? I saw a guy made a helicopter game the other day with it.
If this was Modnation 2 I would be disappointed that it hadn't changed enough. And it's a completely different franchise. I want to see something where the player can make their own items, traps etc - like a boulder that rolls from across the track that the player has to dodge, for example. Otherwise this is just a rebranding of ModNation if you ask me.
Isn't this just Modnation Racers with LBP music? You can race with sackboy in modnation, why change the theme? Doesn't mean I wont be buying though :)
@PDXmauler97 It's made by the same people, but this game features far more cuzomization. Picture Modnation with LittleBigPlanet creativity: you can make your own game modes, and the like. Also it features a battle mode which looks really amazing.
I wish Mario Kart had a track creator. this does look awesome though, might have to give it a further look!
Clunky and slow - I love the idea of LBP racing, but as with ModNation and LBP 1&2 the reality is they're just not very good games. I'll be getting Sonic Transformed for my Mario Kart like fix.
not sure if serious the lbp series is among the best games ever made
@humfredo Lol, why didn't you just write "I am a troll"?
@humfredo Are you kidding me both LBP 1&2 got a score of 9.0 and the the 1st one got game of the year. And modnation racers has a score of 8.0
personal preference - as I said I loved the idea of LBP and the creation tool kit was fantastic, but (and this is a big but) if you wanted to play a platform game it wasn't a very good platform game. Same with Modnation - great idea, but as a kart racer it doesn't beat mario kart or the surprisingly good Sonic SEGA Racing.
I'm not trolling - they're fantastic tool kits and the idea is great, but the reality of playing the game as a platformer / racer is not as good as the idea of it.
Sweet! Thanks Gamespot! I want this game so bad... I'm keeping an eye on the next Sonic Racer but this looks way better!
Its actually made by the guys who made modnation but with media molecule overseeing....explains the similarity!!
@karloss01 yeah i can see what you mean. I couldn't get on with that on the ps3 but on the vita its way better, except there isn't anyone to multi play with. Personally i think karting games have had their time. Even Nintendo s king of karting which we all love isn't what it used to be. Or have games moved on since the snes days ?? it was fresh then and great fun, i think too many copycat karters, with the exception of crash team racing, are milking it. Up the frame rate a little and i may consider this.
@karloss01 Even more strange that they're both Sony games. I guess they can't compete with themselves. It's a win/win for them.
I got in the Beta and the game is awesome. The racing mechanics are better than ModNation and the creating tools are awesome. If this is well advertised, I can see this becoming a huge hit.
