Thanks for the stream. Was nice to get a look at republic side (Empire here). @TriumphantToad. I wish my experience was like you. I also ran in to nodes not working, enemies being right next to me but showing as out of range, combat sometimes not very responsive and animations are lagging behind actions (like cast animation starts half way through the cast). Cast animation doesn't seem like a big deal, but in a WZ I have a chance to interrupt and silence a player if I see him channeling something (someone not targeted). When animation comes in half way through the cast, I can't react as quickly. Sometimes WZ que isn't even working and just sends me to the character selection screen (rare, though). None of this break's the game, though, and I'm sure can be patched up.
GameSpot senior editor Kevin VanOrd invites you to join him throughout the holiday season as he plays Star Wars: The Old Republic.
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Bea Arthur and Harrison Ford came together in two hours of television often referred to as the worst two hours of television ever broadcast.
Senior editor Kevin VanOrd has fortunately set his sights a bit higher. Over the holiday season, he will be live streaming his adventures in Star Wars: The Old Republic for your amusement. Visit this page to enjoy his exploits, chat with fellow Star Wars fans, and remind Kevin that those tentacles hanging from a Twi'lek's head are called lekku--you know, in case he forgets. Which he sometimes does.
Note: Broadcast will show previously recorded footage outside of normally scheduled live streams.

@iloveyourface I have honestly not encountered any technical problems at all...and I've played every day since launch.
really upset with this bought the game and now it says to do and a monthly subscription it says that when you buy the game you get 30 days of play but nothing that you need and the subscription crap
@iloveyourface You think it's typical for MMOS to have less technical problems than this at launch? These games are massive, if everyone went with a mentality similar to yours none of these games would ever launch. It's practically impossible to detect all the bugs and similar problems in a closed beta even if you have like 30000 beta testers. The circumstances between having that many players and about 350000 are very different. the fine tuning is usually done after the launch when there's exponentially much more players playing the game. This is probably one of the cleanest launches I've ever seen.
*Looks at the "Live Stream Schedule* Phew.... At least we don't have to worry that he didn't cover enough of the game before reviewing it!
this game deserves a 6.5, but it'll probably get an 8.0 - 8.5. too many technical problems. still should be in beta stage.
its been two weeks since the release of the game, and i just can't wait for the review anymore i want to buy the game so bad! i guess i will try to kill some time by attending at my school.....
hey for anyone who wants to know i asked kevin last week before new year about a review and he said early this week just fyi
I usually wait for a variety of reviews before purchasing a game, as being a poor college student makes me choosy with what I spend my money on. However, I just couldn't wait and bought this game anyways. I used to play WoW, but got bored of it and wanted to try something new. There are some balance issues, numerous bugs, and at times it does feel somewhat like a single player game(Mass Effect or KOTOR) since many worlds have a few "instances" of players, so you may not see a vast amount of people running around. However, the game is tremendously fun and I recommend it for anyone looking for something new and fresh. Making choices for each mission is perhaps the best aspect of the game, and it's fun to play an evil character(in my case).
Hmm January 3 and still no review, I didn't realize website video game reviewers work politician's hours.
@Kevin VanOrd Thanks a lot for your outstanding commentary and insights into the industry. Totally love it! Particularly your minute observations on instancing had a profound impact on our discussion of our own game design. This leads to one conclusion for a potential SWTOR design for PvP past lvl 50: a PvP war encompassing all planets in the game, at the same time open as well as highly structured and guided by a story by smart use of instancing. Battle flashs and crucial battle instances (tipping points) can provide the room to draw every player in, with the logical connection and transfer of successful/defeated players to other instances providing structure. Ranking can determine who participates in the most important battles. If Bioware doesn't already plan this, you could highlight this potential to them. Instancing can be used to realize different time lines (players progressing, e.g. the beginning story line) as well as the bleeding edge of the conflict that determines its outcome. Throw in resources, logistics, available space ships and a real war of attrition can span the galaxy. Hope for another live stream of SWTOR. Quantomas
zami_pt see u in more than 3 years then.... If u think this game will go free in a year or two then KEEP DREAMING
just got this today...i played WoW for the trial n didnt like it but ive really got into this. how many people play just mmo's? it would be way cheaper if i did that perhaps i can do it with this, spent way to much money on games last year
@Kevin-V I actually dont mind waiting for reviews as i much prefer a well thought out review over something which has just been thrown out with little consideration (which would completely pointless). Besides you deserve your holiday as does everyone else. Hope you have had a great Christmas.
looks like time another MMO with just StarWars skin/mod on... meh. Like KoTOR multiplayer. Pass on...
A review will come when it comes. GameSpot is still on holiday; I streamed over the holiday to provide some insight and entertainment prior to the review. We don't rush reviews. When I am prepared to pass on a verdict, I will.
Thought that I read something in known issues about queueing for pvp in your ship not working right but I could be wrong.
when the hell is final fantasy xiv gonna be released for the ps3.. we've been waiting for a long time now :@
@maxguevera I don't think it's making anyone's GOTY list, although they do like the game. It's just that you have a game come out in the last month of the year.. of course people are going to feel incredibly excited about SWTOR and say GOTY... many said the same of Skyrim and look at it now.. almost forgotten. Let's face it... people have short attention spans and hype up most recent games, and GOTY that until something else comes up.
Looks like this game is being well received as it's already making people's 2011 game of the year lists.
Kevin u should do more streams like that lol its always a pleasure to watch u play and chat with us xd
