I'm basically done with the game but I've always wanted to build the top tier monsters in the game just for fun. Yakshini is a SYN i never built up and used thought i see of it a lot in strats/vids. I couldn't find a build for it in the Monster FAQ. I assume he's not top tier? Also, i read that there's debate that Gahongas could be a better SYN than Yakshini? idk! some feedback would be great. Thanks!

    Gahongas is inferior.
Yakshini wasn't considered to be top-tier because there was no instance in which Purple Chocobo wasn't better. Up until the Snow+Valfodr DLC, augment-crazed SYNs were consistently the best. Now that we have some battles in which defenses are actually used, Yakshini is going to be promoted to the top tier.

How to build it? It's the same principles as all SYNs. I went over them here:

Before the final batch of DLC, Yakshini lacked a defined purpose, making it lackluster for any major post-content and Coliseum battles. While its Feral Link, Fanatical Dance, is undoubtedly useful for general use, Yakshini's Magic cannot compare to augment-oriented SYNs like Purple Chocobo or fast casters like Imp. Granted, Yakshini's casting speed isn't that much slower than Imp's, but the lower Magic and the lack of Augment Maintenance II really hurt it. However, given that Defense Maintenance was confirmed to affect Vigilaga's duration, and that consistent Valfodr speed runs and farming strategies require a well-rounded SYN, Yakshini has become increasingly relevant as of late.

As such, I will direct discussion in my infusion thread topic toward a reevaluation of Yakshini as soon as a concensus has been reached on the three recent DLC monsters. Given its usefulness in Valfodr Lv. 70 and Lv. 99 battles, Yakshini will most likely be promoted to Top-Tier.

While we have yet to decide on an optimal build as a community, I would personally recommend the following:

    Monster: Yakshini
    Monster Role: Synergist

    The Build:

    01) First Strike (RL)
    02) Auto-Haste (9)
    03) HP +30% (8)
    04) Magic +35% (7)
    05) Resist Physical +36% (7)
    06) Resist Magic +36% (7)
    07) Auto-Bravery (7)
    08) Auto-Faith (7)
    09) Feral Speed II (6)
    10) Defense Maintenance (5)

Monster Materials to use: Mana for levels 2-10, 12-20, and 22-70. Potent for levels 11 and 21.

    Crystarium Expansions: +3 ATB

Additional Abilities: Teach it Protectga, Shellga, Enfire, Enfrost, Enthunder, and Enaero. Then teach it Boon by infusing 99 levels worth of SAB monsters into it.

This Yakshini is built as a general-use SYN. By teaching it Protectga and Shellga, you ensure that it will be able to apply defensive buffs as quickly as possible.

Again, note that this build has not undergone community review. But, if you've been reading through this board for a little while, you might have realized that I'm not exactly considered an amateur in the building community.

I didn't actually need a Yakshini until the Gilgamesh fight, and then it was just for his feral link. But he made that fight a GREAT deal easier. Probably make the Valfodr fight easier as well, really.

@Tayl: I actually just recommended a copy of that with Auto-Tetra in place of FSII. you should be pre-charged for pertinent battles, and the mere moments that Yakshini's FSII is in play after Fanatical Dance is probably not going to make or break your recharge time. Auto-Tetra at least helps so that Yakshini doesn't spend her first turn casting VEL or VIG on herself, and she gets some extra protection while she's starting the dance, to boot. Plus, if the base durations on some of Fanatical Dance's buffs are too low, the 30 seconds plus all the Boons can give a slight duration benefit over the bases plus all successive Boons.

I have mixed feelings about adding PRTga and SHLga. On one hand, it means that you'll get some heavy PRT and SHL durations to work on. On the other hand, you could get some bonus VIG time from the First Strike spells (especially if you set to Cross and have Auto-Tetra), which strikes me as more pertinent. I can't really speak one way or another without tiornys' and destrian's FL test results; once I have those, I can do the math to see which is more significant, and, even then, it may end up to be preferential.

Oh, and @Duke: Listen to her, too. She's another one of the theorycrafters.

Thanks for the info, Taly and Noah! I built my Yakshini on all Mana materials, taught it all the spells EXCEPT Protectga and Shellga, and built her exactly as shown above. Pretty happy with her. I'll add Protecta and Shellga later if i can get some more solid information although it does seem already that I might as well with Defense Maintenance as a passive. My Purple Chocobo doesn't have HP+30%, do you think that Yakshini can go without it and i can add Auto-Vig in its place? My Purple Choco has it and it's kinda grown on me.

Auto-Tetra is generally > Auto-VIG, and it's a waste to have both. Tetra gives extra PRT/SHL duration to go with more than enough VIG duration. After the FL and Enspells, the durations of all four buffs would be boosted to 1:05 (or maybe more; I don't yet have the numbers for the base durations from the FL, so I don't want to be too presumptuous). With Auto-VIG, the other durations suffer a bit (I think) just so that VIG can get an excessive boost. You'll end up wanting to switch back to Yakshini to restore the defenses if you run out, anyway, so you may as well make them all last enough time to work with, not just make sure that you have an everlasting VIG.
