While this used to be primarily no crystarium use, there are several active challenges now including speed run / mandatory fights only and secondary roles challenges. http://www.youtube.com/user/Key313 - Oct 24, 2011 9:40 am GMTWell I managed 12:02 after the Beta Behemoth. If I can somehow avoid that battle after the Myrmidon I may be able to complete Ch.1 in under 16 minutes. But that battle is very hard to avoid and it takes ~50 seconds to fight.

http://www.youtube.com/user/MrIlovemyjob - Oct 24, 2011 2:49 pm GMTNice. Sonic coming through with the linkage like an hour after the topic starts.
I'm mostly just posting to get this topic on my AMP. I do still need to finish those last 4 NCU missions though. Probably have to go with an elixir on 55, couldn't find the video that didn't use one since it was taken off of youtube anyway. Still, I should be able to get them all fairly easily, except 62, just having to put 55. 62, and 63 on a separate save.
I may still go around at Orphan again, he's still scary just not as much so after winning once. I would love to at least have all the missions on one file, not expecting to get Orphan with no elixirs and 5 star 62 though haha.
I may try a speed run sometime, but fp the way you're killing it now, I think I'll wait and see what all you can do and your chapter times/strats before giving it a go.

Trusting my soul to the ice cream assassin - Oct 24, 2011 2:55 pm GMTThanks Sonic for the archived NCU topics -- you da man on posting those : )

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/928790-final-fantasy-xiii/55327168 - Oct 24, 2011 3:03 pm GMT@Addict -- not to make fun of your pain, since Ch 1 is such a PITA, but I'm glad you didn't finish in like 13min -- that just means that ~16 is pretty close to the practical minimum. If you are sweating less than a min, just move on man. There's plenty more in this challenge to irritate (like resetting a million times for a shroud drop) so don't waste your patience capital on Ch 1.
@Tori -- If you aren't doing anything, the more the merrier I say on the speed run. I've made progress with each run, but the overall process will go faster if we have more people playing to uncover other ways to save time. I think 7:21 is within reach this time around, but I don't really want to have a FOURTH go just to record an even faster time. - Oct 24, 2011 5:51 pm GMTMy plans for shroud collecting if I get around to this next run:
5 Fortisols (8 total including 3 from treasures):
Ch 2 - 2x pantheron (mandatory fight as snow)
Ch 2 - 3x ghoul (mandatory fight as snow/vanille/hope)
Ch 2 - ghoul (non-mandatory fight after +20 str)
Ch 2 - ghoul (non-mandatory fight after +20 str, a 2nd one)
Ch 3 - garuda interceptor (boss)
4 Deceptisols:
Ch 2 - 3x zwerg scandroid (guarding iron bangle)
Ch 2 - pantheron + 2x zwerg scandroid (mandatory fight as snow)
Ch 2 - ghoul (non-mandatory fight after +20 str)
Ch 2 - ghoul (non-mandatory fight after +20 str, a 2nd one)
4 Aegisols:
Ch 4 - thexteron (normal farming spot)
Ch 4 - 2x incubus + succubus (mandatory fight just before dreadnought)
Ch 4 - 2x corps regular (guarding 3x fiber optic cable treasure)
Ch 4 - 2x bomb (mandatory fight in "raise the roof" scenario)
For the most part, I tried to use mandatory fights but didn't want to introduce too many extra saves and also didn't want to have to reset twenty billion times to get all these shrouds, hence the ghoul fights. For the ghoul fights, give light the gladius and +20 str and have Sazh attack 5 times. When he's about to attack the 6th time, attack as light to win the fight. 33sec is the target time for 0 stars. There's 10 single ghoul fights total available, so make sure you know which one drops what shroud (they're different!).
Obviously if I get shrouds from other mandatory fights I'll skip some ghouls. Interested to see what folks think -- check split's guide for which fights drop what and lets see if we can improve. - Oct 24, 2011 7:25 pm GMTYou guys are awesome. Seriously, the amount of dedication here is astounding.
Is there a compilation of all the missions you finished in SRC, or a list of the ones that were done? I'd like to add to the guide.

ConIido, 16X Buccaneer - Oct 24, 2011 9:29 pm GMTI saved after the Beta Behemoth. That battle is really the only annoying thing for the rest of the chapter.

http://www.youtube.com/user/MrIlovemyjob - Oct 25, 2011 4:40 am GMT@eph -- check back in the ncu/neu thread. Sonic finished all the missions and I finished and 5-starred all of them. Strats should be posted for fights that are non-obvious. Let me know if you have specific questions. I have all of my src saves still.
- Oct 25, 2011 8:28 am GMTHere is chapter 1 through the Beta Behemoth.

http://www.youtube.com/user/MrIlovemyjob - Oct 25, 2011 8:16 pm GMTI remember Shinryu saying some of the enemies in the Pulse Vestige have 50-60% drop rates with 5 stars! The ones that everyone farms in NCU the lone pantheron and that zwerg scandroid x 3 battle.
---
http://www.youtube.com/user/MrIlovemyjob - Oct 25, 2011 9:05 pm GMTI've been fighting the battles in the first room of the Pulse Vestige and all the encounters seem to drop shrouds frequently or maybe I am just lucky. The lone Pantheron drops Fortisols. There's 2 Zwerg Scanrdoid x 3 formations and 2 Pantheron x 2 formations that drop deceptisols. We could get all the Deceptisols in this room and one of the Fortisols. That would eliminate 3 Ghoul battles.

http://www.youtube.com/user/MrIlovemyjob - Oct 26, 2011 12:58 am GMTGood point addict. I was thinking if I do start a speed run that I remember a number of those enemies still dropping shrouds decently at 5 stars. If done right, that could cut down on a couple of minutes pretty easily, especially if you could get all the Deceptisols and Fortisols in the same room there with Hope and Vanille (or later with Sazh and Light).
Just food for thought. As much saving and retrying as goes on in a speed run, it has to be worth trying out some. I'm at a friend's house right now or I would check into it, but I don't have access to the PS3.

Trusting my soul to the ice cream assassin - Oct 26, 2011 4:48 am GMTIf you are fighting the battles in that first area and then saving to respawn you are taking too long (or getting lucky if you always get a shroud). I did the same thing last time and the ghouls are faster (@ 0 stars) by 2 mins to get 6 forts and 4 decepts. using the mandatory fights is even faster still but the catch is you have to reset a bunch to get multiple drops without saving in between.
- Oct 26, 2011 6:45 am GMTI won't save to respawn you can get 1 Fortisol and 4 Deceptisols in this room without reloading. I was fighting them last night and the drop rate was high. I think we can use these instead of the ghouls because the battles are over quicker than the ghouls. The problem is if you go don't go back to save afterwards (which takes time) you have to farm a mandatory battle for a Fortisol before you can save. I think what I might do is get a Fortisol from the Pantheron and get 3 Deceptisols in this room and not worry about getting a Fortisol from the mandatory battle. If I do get lucky and get a Fortisol I'll either skip a Ghoul or use it on Enki and Elil.

http://www.youtube.com/user/MrIlovemyjob - Oct 26, 2011 6:48 am GMTWow 500 and I missed it
- Oct 26, 2011 7:07 am GMTI hear ya addict. I was lookin at probability. There are 4 fights. If the drop rate is 50-60% for all of them (and I don't think it is for all 4 fights) the chances of getting all 4 shrouds is ~9%. That's pretty low IMO, which is why I was advocating the "sure thing approach". I say go for it and see if you get lucky.
What was your time at the start of ch 2? Assuming you saved right after the single pantheon event battle that starts the ch.
@foo - those who are late do not get fruit cup (or the capstone 500 post). - Oct 26, 2011 7:36 am GMTMy time at the end of Chapter 1 was 15:29. This is the end of the 1st chapter not after the Pantheron battle at the beginning of disc 2.I'm not sure if the drop rates are 50-60% for all of them but I was fighting all the battles in that room for awhile and I was getting them frequently. I will try it a few times if it takes me too many attempts I may just use your plan. If we do use your plan we should at least fight that lone Pantheron for a Fortisol because you said a Fortisol makes the Enki and Enlil battle 40 seconds shorter. That battles goes down in ~11 seconds.
---
http://www.youtube.com/user/MrIlovemyjob - Oct 26, 2011 8:11 am GMTWhile the odds are low its right after a save, so it's not that bad. If it were 10 minutes in it would be much worse. Another possibility is getting the shrouds in the first room and 0 starring the mandatory battle with Snow to get a Fortisol for Enki and Enlil. I'm going to see what the time difference is between fighting it quickly and getting 0 stars.
