She uses lances... her brother's weapon, which she never showed any affinity towards in her own game...
I don't see why being a lord automatically means she uses swords. She uses swords because she is a skilled swordfighter. There are plenty of lords that don't use swords. If IS wanted more variety, they should have given one of the more boring lords the Bride class or something. Not Eirika.

The fact is that this is hardly Eirika. Even if this is just a "new perspective" she shouldn't be so drastically different. The other lords didn't receive such a massive change to how they fight.

This! Every other lord seems to be pretty similar combat-wise to their original appearance. Sword-users still use swords, magic-users still use magic, etc. Eirika is the only important character to see such a large change. Who the heck decided, "Let's take a super-fast badass swordswoman... AND TURN HER INTO AN ARCHER!!!"
The only possible answer can be that the Eirika in the DLC is not the true Eirika, but a horrible abomination created by Eirika's and Ephram's incestuous love.

What isn't wrong with Celice's redesign? Even setting aside his horrifying face, you have to deal with the terrible peacock longcoat. Plus he seems to be wielding a katana there, which is extremely confusing. Celice's associated weapon should be Tyrfing, which is...not a katana, or at least it damn well shouldn't be. That design there is all kinds of wrong, and there's absolutely no explanation for it.

Celice is also associated with a second hero sword, which in FE4 were katanas.
Peacock long coat isn't that bad.
It's that face that's the only issue.

Celice still uses a sword and is a fighter. S/he isn't too big of a change.
