Vista, OpenGL... Catalyst Drivers.
- May 22, 2007 5:52 pm GMTRecently i tryed to play Jedi Outcast and of course it complained about the opengl subsystem (the windows opengl.dll loaded but sucks too much to use aparently) So i downloaded the catalyst drivers 7.4 thinking "hey nice and easy solution", however after it extracted the files *nothing* happened. No error... nothing Going manually to the C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 folder i ran the setup.exe and got this: "C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985\Setup.exe The application has failed to start because its side-by-side configuation is incorrect. Please see the application event log for more detail." Weird!... so ok i check the app event log and see this: "Activation context generation failed for "C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985\Setup.exe".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985\Microsoft.VC80.MFC.MANIFEST" on line 11. Component identity found in manifest does not match the identity of the component requested. Reference is Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.42". Definition is Microsoft.VC80.MFC,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50608.0". Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis." Now to a trained eye you can see that aparently the DLL version and the version in the .manifest file are *incorrect*... what you say? ATi stuffing up like that? NO WAY! reference dll mfc80u.dll: file version is: 8.00.50727.42 the manifest for the file says the assemblyidentity version is: 8.0.50608.0 So i edited the manifest file manually in the C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985 folder and the C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985\bin folder... C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985\Microsoft.VC80.MFC.MANIFEST C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-4_vista32_dd_ccc_enu_44985\bin\Microsoft.VC80.MFC.MANIFEST (edit in notepad) the setup.exe in the \bin folder actually runs now (the root one does nothing, proberly needs command lines arugments) and FINALLY My drivers installed and opengl works! Thought id share I tryed to contact ATi about this but they keep pasting me krap from there little CRM about "How to download drivers" and "How to install drivers" was enuf to make me insane Hope this helps others! Of course this wont effect *alot* of people... was the vista 32bit 7.4 drivers and my system setup might be different too. I need my OpenGL working and i could not find *anything* on the net about this issue so at least here is some help... :)
