What gameplay aspect would you like to see in the next Final Fantasy?
This question goes out to everyone. What would you like to see in the next Final Fantasy?
I think it might be neat to play as the villian in the story.

- I want them to take the offline games back to that medieval style with the job system and what not. Something akin to FFIV. And I would love for there to be a lot of depth in the battle system.

~I'm a Completist by nature. A Gamer by Choice.~I like each of the games for different reasons. Honestly I love the story more then anything. I want an epic adventure with TONS of side-quests, character development, and a large world for it all to take place in. ^.^- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

It's probably predictable but, considering a in depth story line it would be cool to see previous characters return to meet new faces.

Playing as the bad guy would be interesting yes but might not be for everyone. Maybe make that optional. What I would love to see is:
Old characters returning. Maybe this could be done by suggesting that the other FF games were different time lines of one world. There could be like some small amount of time travel or maybe even some kind of magic causes the old characters to end up in the time that the new game takes place in.
Optional moral stance. I would love to see the hero get to pick what kind of hero they are. Are they the goodie hero who wants to save everyone and make everyone happy? Or are they the dark hero who wants everything to go his way?
Live trigger moments playing a bigger part. The moments in FF 13 2 where I got to pick what Sarah/Noel would say were nice but I felt more could've been done with it. plus that there wasn't enough of them. This could play a part in my above suggestion of moral stance.
Optional hero. Every FF game played always has you playing with one character as the focus of this. How bout some other choices? At the beginning give us two or more to pick from with their own story line that might meet up with the other choices later on in the game.
New game+. I don't know about everyone else but I would love to see the return of new game+. How many times have you been faced with a side boss that you couldn't beat because of low levels and it would take far too long trying to level up more with the low level monsters in the area? And once you were at the right level to fight the side boss you could no longer reach him due to the area he's in being blocked? New game+ could open more possiblities that the plays didn't get first time around.
And the final thing I suggest for any future FF games is that their armor and accessories affect the way they look. I want to see just what some of this armors and accessories look like on the characters.

Another two things I would like to see is:
Maybe there could be a house the player could get early in the game where Team members not with the player could stay in. This could lead to teammates having their own side quests that earn the player items that are uniqe to that character. Also the look and things in the house could reflect the player's choices in the game. If they are a good hero the house could be a warm friendly place for hanging out. If evil like the house could appear to be falling apart in some places, with a torture chamber as the living room complete with blood stained floors. The house could also how mini games for the player to enjoy at any time.
I think the player should be able to craft potion. Have be set up so that the player can making things like potions, X potions, Ethers, etc. by gathering the needed reagents and bringing them back to the player's house, or to some shop that may or may not charge a small fee for the use of their lab. This could lead to some funny moments in which the player (not being at the right level or just a case of bad luck) has a moment when the thing they are trying to make blows up on them cause some kind of side effect that the player must wait till it wears off or craft a counter potion to rid them of it.

In regards to the whole playing a the bad guy bit mentioned early perhaps that could take place at the beginning of the game. Like the player is made to thing that they are the main character before finding out that this is really the person we have to defeat. Also maybe there could be a moment in the game like in Chrono Cross were the main character switches bodies with the bad guy. Only this time the main character has to make use of everything the bad guy had (i.g their army, tech, magic, etc) in order to capture them and get their body back.

- Apr 16, 2012 12:02 pm GMTTrigger system for battles, kind of like Legend of Dragoon. Makes gameplay engaging the entire time. Go back to the more basic turn based style and away from the MMORPG style that has ruined FF12 and 13. I feel like there are a lot of Final Fantasy and RPG purists who have lost interest in the series because the gameplay is becoming extremely weak and flawed. Turn based with full control over all characters with limit breaks is what made final fantasy games great from 7-10. I agree with the job class system as well. FFX-2 used this and I thought it was a very underrated game because the class system made it very fun despite a lot of other flaws. Bringing back old characters would be great some FF veterans as well, nostalgia always makes things better.

werent sephiroth and seifer both apart of your team at some point in their respective games? id prefer a 2 main guy scenario where you spend some time in both guys shoes, literally, and ultimately have to decide which path to follow to conclusion perhaps even in direct conflict with each other. i dont want any of the old stuff back to the fore' thats what those games were for if i want to experience it ill play those games again. out with the old and in with the new. i do however want 4 member parties back and some real challenge in those boss battles.

I agree with this. Having to push buttons while doing attacks make it more challenging for the player as well as more interesting. Or maybe a White Knight thing where you can combind different moves to make combos.

Bring the westernization back a bit. The combination of the two stylized cultures made FF so great. X started getting a little odd, though it kept a handle on it and was still a great game. Since then, FF has seemingly drifted away into being less relatable.

Let's see...it's the story and characters I really love about FF, but since the game-play *is* critical I'll take a stab at this question.
-Turn based combat should stick around in some form, seeing as that was a central premise for the series. I realize it's a feature which is over 20 years old, but if the games are to remain recognizable as FFs, this is an element that should stay. Turn-based combat may not be as flashy as real-time combat, but it sure keeps you on your toes. The memory of a certain boss battle in FFX still makes me break into a cold sweat. ^^;
-The option to play multiple characters (for longer periods of time than Seifer or Sephiroth) would be excellent, so long as it could work with the story. However, I think characters from the other games should stay in their worlds. One of the beauties of FF is being able to play any one (from the main numbered titles) without having to play any other to understand the story. I have no problem with games such as Dissidia, but inserting pre-existing characters into future numbered titles would mess up the flow of the series.
(As a side note...there's been a growing trend of "cluttered" battle graphics; a rainbow of sparkles and light waves for every move the character makes, numbers and flashes for every hit. Personally, I find this VERY distracting: it overloads the eyes and ironically makes the spectacle less impressive. If you eat candy all the time, you're less likely to notice sweetness. Just think of a battle from an older FF; there's barely any sparkle unless you use a spell, but when you call out a summon, you NOTICE. The graphics need to serve the game, not the other way around.)

Alright you have a point there. Maybe in that case the story could break off to some kind of flash back like moment where the actions of one of the MCs from a FF before had some kind of impact on the present. Like say some time after FF7 Cloud and his team hide the huge materia in a cave before sealing in and then many years late the new MC needs to hunt it down to power some machine or magic? If it is done right then new players could do these moments with out needing to know about past events and still get some enjoyment out of them. Maybe even encourage them to try the older games.

The job system came from Final Fantasy 5. And yes having control over the whole party would be better but it would slow down the game a bit ... in this day and age everything must go very fast with a lot of explosion and all ... A game where you have to make a choice every few second may be too much but more engaging.
One thing they could do is ... like Capcom did ... a retro game for PSN/Live ... a retro final fantasy like FF6 !!! that would be nice. That game took about 25h to finish but it was pure magic.

I just thought about it ... and I would like the world map to come back. I would also like to see the humor of the first installement come back ... and why not bring many caracters with one unique ability. So at least they will feel different. Also your party leader has to be anybody from the party. A place where you can meet your party like in FF6 and 10 in a flying ship. It was nice.
when a new caracter joint the party, you have his/her music theme with a little bio. latter in the game you could have a side quest for more info on that caracter and something cool to unlock. (no f***ing DLC ). Make some caracter that may not joint your party if you don't meet a set of conditions. They could be guess caracters and at one point they can joint.
I think a retro FF game would be nice like Capcom did with Mega Man.

A great story and likeable characters should be priority number 1. Also, a new deep and compelling combat system. No re-hashing of the old ones because I was honestly getting very sick of them after playing the same combat system across 6 games in a row, so brand new combat would be nice. Deep character customization as well, and make everyone class-specific, not letting every character be able to learn the same skills, that takes away any individuality from the characters. I want everyone to feel unique and have a different use. White mages are white mages, black mages are black mages, etc. Also, I know I'm the only one who feels this way, but PLEASE don't bring back the world map, that just made me tear my hair out in frustration, becasue of the frequent random encounters and lack of direction. I spent SO many hours just aimlessly wandering to find my next destination. A point-annd-click mao, similar to Shadow Hearts and Tales of Symphonia 2, would be better, as it would keep the story moving along without all the fluff and backtracking, and it wouldn't make the pacing of the story feel disjointed. No random encounters, either, visible enemy symbols, please.

Yes, precisely. Final Fantasy series has been slowly killing itself since FFX. They need to go back to the days when they were setting the standards for RPG's, back to FFVII and earlier. I'm tired of walking down long convoluted hallways with a cutscene break every now and then. I want classic RPG action!! I want a overhead map screen!! I want an airship!! I want random active time battles, not a paper rock scissors fighting system. I want the perfect balance between medieval and futuristic!! WHERE DID FINAL FANTASY GO??
