System Wars is a one of a kind destination where gamers can discuss, rant, and debate about systems, platforms, handhelds and the games. Not many people survive System Wars. The mightiest system warriors back up their arguments with facts.

Rules are simple:
- Read the Terms of Use and System Wars Survival Guide.
- Must be Level 10 or higher to create topics.
- Keep your discussions around what belongs here: platforms, games, developers, publishers, and stats.
- Don't quote more than one image in your post.
- Do NOT post or bump extremely abusive discussions (adult material/illegal activities/illegal advertising/etc).

So System Wars, I decided that we should have a formal competition about which gaming company we all believe really is the best one. IF you have previously seen or participated in my Greatest Nintendo Franchise, Greatest Franchise, Greatest Zelda Game and Greatest Final Fantasy Game competitions, you know how it works, but I'll list it all out here for you regardless:

The problem with asking System Wars to definitively answer the question is the problem of tallying: the Gamespot poll system only allows for five options per poll, and no one has the time to count all the answers people give within a thread. So here's the perfect way out. In this competition,

Rather than having a poll, where I would be limited by five options, I decided to go for a much more open and flexible approach instead.

    • Name your three favorite gaming companies, in order of preference.
    • The gaming company may be a publisher, or a developer. It may be a defunct company (such as Ensemble Studios).
    • The company that is ranked first in your post will be awarded 50 points. The second company gets 25 points, and the third company gets 15 points.
    • Only posts that name three comapnies will be counted. Posts that name less than three comapnies will be disregarded.
    • If you name more than three companies, then only the first three games mentioned in your post will be counted.
    • Based on your responses, the points that each comapny gathers will be tallied up. At the end of the voting period, the top five companies will be selected for the Final Round, where they will be included in a poll that all of System Wars can vote on. The voting period ends in seven days from now. The topic title will be changed beforehand to notify everyone that the tallying period is ending.

So with all of that in mind, here are my favorite three gaming companies of all time:

    Nintendo

    Bethesda Softworks

    Ensemble Studios

I just want to say--again--something I have said many, many times before: Dispel the notion that a game starts at a 10, and gets points "docked" from it. That would be a really silly way to review a game.

Game reviews aren't mathematical logarithms. They are the result of an experience that makes an impression on the mental and emotional superhighway of the game reviewer. I don't have a spreadheet that starts with a 10 and has calculations built in, where "low frame rate" = a .25 hit to the score. It doesn't work that way, and thank God for that.

Origin Systems. Sigh. I wish al-Queda would just send about 10 suicide bombers into EA's head quarters.
