The beta for ArenaNet's highly anticipated sequel gets under way.
This past weekend marked the first time the press has been able to get into the beta for Guild Wars 2, the follow-up to the popular role-playing game that took a different approach with massively multiplayer online games. The sequel looks to continue that trend as the first few hours give a taste of both epic battles with dozens of other players and small quests devoted just to your character and the selections made during the character creation process.
We had a few of the beta participants sit down to talk about their initial impressions and what they're looking forward to from the game. Also be sure to check out our extra gameplay videos of the event down below.
so should I get mists of crapparia and pay blizzard (especially after they screwed me with D3 that turned out an "OK" game which is not "OK") more money via sub every month???
OR should I try something new that will ease the pain on my wallet and give me a better gaming experience??!!!
This game is a true art........after what Blizzard did to the famous title DIABLO 3 this was my only hope and I tried beta weekend this week and OMMMMMMGGGGGGG it is truly AMAZINGGGGGG.
Never played Guild Wars 1, but I've played many MMORPGs. I'm in the Beta because I pre-purchased the game. Best MMORPG I've ever played, and it's just the beta
Just hope console release isn't too far behind the pc. I'm 100% gettin this game and I never so much as read about the first one. The game is just superbly thought out. No party necessary when the whole server is ur party. No waiting on next mob. Server versus server battles. I haven't been this excited for a game in a long time.
@Bhemont Glad to see you understand :) It's always nice to have good graphics though, Tera Online to me stands out as a great looking game, it'll be the first MMO I'll probably stick to the £10 a month payments for!
@MackB835 Go watch some of the videos that tour the Major cities and tell me the visuals dont look good and its very immersive! Not to mention this is closed beta and either the testers have their settings set to low or there is no option for higher visuals...Also the fact that gamestop videos are rather low quality.
Maybe it's just me, but this doesn't look any different than Rift, except that GW2 is going to be free to play like GW was. The gameplay itself doesn't look like it was changed too much from the original, and like another poster said, "where is the amazing, vibrant graphics and innovation we were promised?" I'm not seeing a whole lot of new product here and it looks like one of those "been there, done that" type games....again. And this is coming from a fan of the original series of Guild Wars.
Gameplay is nothing like the original. They threw everything out except for the lore/story. If you played GW1 and loved it because it asked you to use your brain - you're not going to find that in GW2.
@Defy_The_Fallen I guess you're right, I'm not exactly a graphic ****, or at least I never considered my self to be anyway. I may have been spoiled by other games in this genre, and going back may be a little difficult unless the game can provide me with something else instead, which it seems to be more then capable of doing. :)
You can't not buy a game based on its graphics (yes I'm looking at you @Bhemont :P). A games narrative, gameplay, replay value and 'fun' should be first priority over graphics under any circumstances. Exceptions are games that need a unique graphic style to be what they are, Bastion or Braid for example (indie devs are always creative).
@abarteau, I can't comment on this game but I played WoW and it was incredibly boring itself. So if this is just as boring but without monthly fees than it is still something for Blizzard to worry about ;) And IMO, judging by what they've shown here, this game is no where near as repetitive in its structure as WoW. WoW only was fun with friends around, but the gameplay itself wasn't interesting enough. This seems to be fun solo and really amazing with friends.
The in game graphics look terrible, but in the character creation it looks great, and detailed. If they can make it look like it did in the cc, I'm definitely canceling my current MMO sub and buying this.
Going to town on the Ice Drake Broodmother was pretty funny. Other than that this game looks pretty boring. I guess WoW still has nothing to worry about.
Well NCsoft i think you convinced me enough to want this game since it looks 100 times better then the original game (which i still have and play from time to time). Now all i wanna know is a release date so i can (hopefully) reserve it.
@shadgrindk Don't be suck a huge d!ckwad. You have 4 more videos of pure game footage. That video was called a podcast, so that's what you're going to get. People talking, giving their opinion and experience, with random game footage. Use that video to get first hand accounts and see what their expressions are like to get a feel for it. Then watch the other videos here and everywhere else on the web for game footage. Jeez. I'd like to say Thank You to the GameSpot team who put this together, edited the content, and stuck it on here, as well as the guys who spent a few hours playing and analyzing the game a bit for us. It's looking good.
@Albaficas If you want to play Tera all you need to do is take a piece of crap and put sprinkles on it. It's only selling point are it's graphics. The game is ridiculously generic with absolutely no innovations whatsoever. Maybe one if you include the action combat. Big deal! You're still grinding mindlessly from one level to the next with a weak storyline and standard fetch, kill, and collect quests. GW2 is not the second coming of Christ, it's a breath of fresh air from the stale garbage currently littering the market.
Don't you guys hate how these videos keep cutting for several seconds at a time to whatever dipchit is speaking? As if we care who the guy is, what he looks like, or even what he is saying half the time. If he has interesting information, by all means spit it out. But quit cutting away from footage so we can see some gheek yapping as if ANYONE wishes to share the footage time with some twaat having delusions of grandeur. Keep these rtards off camera and the game on camera.
Wow, I'm getting really excited for this. The dev team had me hooked on the original Guild Wars...I'm interested to see what they've been able to put together in the last few years!
Lols.. I guess people have been ripped off so much by other MMOs that they just cant believe that GW is retail price only with no extra fees necessary. "What!!?? No monthly fees!!?? Lies!! No F2P only lvl cap!!?? Devil worship!! No absolutely essential cash shop items!!?? Blasphemy!! " hahaha @baal46 you said it. This is the fairest MMO business model out there. Its a business model thats designed to attract and keep people playing the game, rather then push them away at some point. @Albaficas no, the cash shop won't be pay to win if its gonna be anything like it was in GW1. GW1 cash shop only contains cosmetics and stuff for seriously lazy people (pvp skill unlocks for those too lazy for pve). All consets and XP scrolls are available in game for everyone.
oflow any mmo's for the last 2 years makes swtor looks like crap but gw2 looks just like rift in graphics wich also sucks...but for a f2p game its ok i guess. still tera remains the best looking mmo to date and has the best pvp anw gonna try gw2 i guess its free right...free mmo and a p2p tera i wont mind at all.
baal46 doenst matter this game will get shops sooner or later and wil lbecome a sort of p2w...but anw doesnt matter making sense with the gw fanboys...they want to hear what they like to hear only
