The GameSpot Staff talks about games that we haven't heard from in some time, but are still plenty excited about.
I don't know about episode 3....but i think valve doesn't care anymore... from what i've read... There is this woman, Kim Swift, that left valve in 2009 after she played some pretty big roles as a developer in Portal, Left 4 dead 1 and 2, and HL2 episode 1 and 2, and sincerely... all i saw after episode 2 was ...CS global offensive (WTF?!?!? ... that isn't a GAME ....it's the same thing as Counter-Strike 1.6....NOTHING NEW except that the characters look different in every level...F**K!!!!) ....and... more.....and more....and more.....HATS ....for team fortress. That is all they come up with. I'm sorry and i HOPE TO GOD that they prove me wrong cause i LOVE ALL HALF LIFE GAMES and i looked up to valve all my life thinking "now there is one team of developers that will never let me down, they will always make fun and original games that will last throughout history". But after i heard this and seeing as how they practically stopped developing any real games after Kim Swift left... I started loosing hope.
Read it again. It says Half Life 2: Episode 3!! This is NOT HL3. Just a new chapter, and i can't wait for it!
Holy sh. After this video I am A) ashamed that I've never played beyond good & evil and B) Dying to play through Half-Life 2 again. Such an incredible experience.
I don't like missing out, so I'm going to play Shadow of the Colossus and BG&E. But I will shed manly tears of joy on the day I get to play Half-Life 3.
The moment that Sony and Microsoft FINALLY announce and/or reveal their next-gen consoles, Valve will announce Half-Life 3. Guarantee it.
I like that last part. "If its awesome, thank me..." lol Reminds me of when I spammed capcom to make RE5 co-op and it worked! lol
CAN"T WAIT FOR next Half Life game. And CS GO
Yeah, I've got no idea what's going on with "The Last Guardian." It's pretty weird. I completely forgot about it, and then I just realized..... hey, wasn't that a big, high profile, hyped-up game that was supposed to come out three years ago? I was stoked about it in 2008, and then.... time went on, my life went on, and I don't even know what's become of it. Is it even going to be finished and released? What's caused the delay? Better late then never, I guess, but my clock is ticking, and I need to hurry up and play it before too much longer. I'm not even sure I'll be able to play it next year if that's when it's revealed to be released - if ever. Man, it's strange, and I know nothing about it. I stopped following it since 2009.
I hate to break it to the guys who doubt BG&E2, but Michel Ancel confirmed that the game was still in the works at last year's E3. Here's the interview where he said so in an interview with GameTrailers.
(Go to the 6:00 mark)
He wants the technology to match the vision of the game, so he's waiting for the next-gen consoles. Holding your breath is still a good thing to do, but the game is far from dead as far as it's creator is concerned.
As much as I loved Beyond Good & Evil (it was an awesome PS2 game, everyone who didn't get it yet, do now if you like adventures with an awesome mood to it, it's available in PSN PS2 Classics HD Program) and as much wanted Beyond Good & Evil 2, as much as I was dissapointed when I heard there won't be because the developers have hit bankrupcy, as happy as I was again when I heard someone picked the rights to elaborate on them and again hear it's dropped down and now, after I saw the "footage" to Beyond Good & Evil 2, if they really plan to let it look and play like a Mirror's Edge Mod then HELL NO, something has went TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE WRONG on the way from the genious first to this piece of ****. As great as Mirror's Edge itself was, I don't want it to have ruin the great atmosphere and gameplay Beyond Good & Evil had.And hey Kevin Van Ord, secretly admitting Activision is "evil"....now do that with EA and you have assured yourself a place on my persons who have been epic for the video game industry list :P
Hm, watching this video made me realise something that surprised me. Video game critics/journalists piss me off, and I have no desire to hear their opinion on anything anymore, even if I agree with it. After the ME3 ending debacle, they made it perfectly clear that they view themselves as seperate from the stupid, unwashed gamer masses and they have honestly completely compromised their authority in my eyes.
I just cannot respect them even a little bit after that.
half life 1 + opposing force (best FPS of all time) second half life 2......:D......hope remake of battlezone alsos....<.<
I hope HL3 is taking so long because there making it with a new gfx engine. Source engine is starting to look a little dated.
what if valve is not saying anything abt HL3, is because they have no idea on how to proceed with the story from episode 2? dont get me wrong, i love the half life series, but does anyone have any sort of a clue on where are they getting at with the story now??
@Tr0ll_King They're not setting a release date because they don't want to be tied down to a release date and disappoint people. Gabe has said that when they announce a release date, it'll be an almost immediate release.
Yep... Came in here for Last Guardian and HALF-LIFE 3... (Episode 2 left me speechless) I love half-life!
Even though Beyond Good & Evil didn't sell well, it deserves a sequel. There was more appreciation for the game over time. C'mon Ubisoft. C'mon Ansel! Work on it! Release it!
I hope that Beyond good and evil comes out. Just like Duke Nukem 4 ever 14years after the first release date
I don't have much faith in valve anymore, I would still say they are one of the better video game developers around but they didn't do anything new and exciting for a while, they seem more happy to create further versions of game they have already made.
Hl2, L4d2, Portal2, teamfortress2 - A lot of " sequels" there.
Maybe value is the last hope of gaming in a World destroyed by greedy publishers.
@SunzyMan Most devs normally stick to one IP at a time. Valve has about 6 going: Half-Life, Portal, Counter-Strike, Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress, and DOTA. That's difficult enough to keep up with, why would they start even more franchises?
Only that value used to be innovators, creators in wonderful and unique games, now it seems they haven't done that for a while.
Half-Life, Counter-Strike, L4D, TeamFortress, these titles either have the community keeping them alive or only have small updates applied to them, normally to fix problems Valve created on a previous update.
CS GO - Is published by Valve but it's mainly developed by Hidden path, I wouldn't even call it Counter Strike, It's L4D with Counter Strike skins.
DOTA2 has a lot to live up to.
They released portal 2 and working on a new Counter-Strike !!! why don't they work on a new project or franchise for Half-Life like Half-Life 3 or something !!!!??????
Why games like The Last Guardian don't come on PC?
Anyway, nothing concerns me more that what's on everyone's mind - HL3. VAVLE FTW.
Half-Life 3 can take as long as it wants. I think the one main reason why I don't fear it turning out like Duke Nukem Forever is because in my opinion, 3D realms just couldn't handle the evolution of technology. They kept scrapping it to rebuild it with a new game engine over and over again because they were tempted with stupid things like how it was going to look or bump mapping on Duke's biceps. Where as Valve is not tempted by new technology because they are new technology. The Source engine is so adaptable that they don't need to worry about scrapping the game. They can just tweak their engine. There for a lot of time is going to go into story and characters, and game play, and not so much the worry of how it's going to look.
I'm confused as to why they wrote of both Beyond Good and Evil 2 and The Last Guardian. It's been recently reported that Sony has thrown extra resources into finishing TLG and sent Santa Monica Studios to assist. Meanwhile Ubisoft has strongly hinted to simply pushing BGE 2 into next gen consoles with a slower and more meaningful development cycle.
@bluemoon6 I think it's because while this has been said, that is the issue. It's only been said.
@sirkibble2 that and having Ubisoft keep holding the game for ransom. "If Game X sells well, we MIGHT make BG&E2"
I just want to know how many copies of Rayman Origins need to be sold before they will consider it.
