3 Like I'm hoping these predictions are just that... predictions.. Microsoft surely wouldn't shoot themselves in the foot with a tablet release. That's not a console... and I would refuse to buy one.
Just because all technology is gearing towards handheld, does not mean video games do.
@Thuganomic05 I agree. I enjoy my iPad , but more so for net browsing. If the tablet is incorporated like the WiiU then that wouldn't be too bad, but not a full-fledged tablet based console.

Ha!! Final.. Final.. Final Fantasy VII REMAKE!! I wish. SE is not even able to complete FF vs XIII. Actually... not even FF X HD!!! And you hope that SE will unveil a remake of FF VII this year? For the crappy tablets? Or you meant just a port keeping the graphics of the PSone?
Vita price cut was already mentioned by heads of Sony. What would matter more is the games. Japanese studios could make the difference for the Vita's Japanese fortunes and Vita sales continue to improve, however so slightly.
Next gen? All with a grain of salt. Won't believe a thing till either Sony and Microsoft begin hinting to and discussing their respective new offerings?

4 Like You forgot "Even fewer games worth buying will be released on discs in the US market." Sure, we'll get tons more of the usual FPS crap, and of course tons more RPG's and RTS as well, but there will only be a small handful of games in other genres, and most of those will be released via the "download it on Steam or forget it" routine that's been forcing me to import European PC games just to get a freaking disc that directs me to a Steam download! Call me old fashioned, but if I can't display it on a shelf, it isn't worth owning. Some of us still collect video games as a hobby, and a bunch of little icons displayed on a hard drive just doesn't give the same sense of pride in ownership as wall-to-wall-floor-to-ceiling shelves of thousands of games in boxes do. Nobody looks at a ton of icons on your computer screen and is immediately impressed because they know you actually bought them all, they just assume that they're all pirated, and want to know the URL for whatever site you used to download them all!

@dralutfi I thought they hadn't even tapped all the power or all the processors in the PS3 yet? or at least game developers are not bothering to, why are so many PS3 titles still in 720p for example? all titles should be 1080p by now surely, it certainly appears that a lot more of them are on 360, PC gamers dont need to worry about that of course, but I aint bloody got one!

1 Like Let's not give Apple too much credit for their subpar game apps they've been creating. If anything, their game apps are getting worse. They started out with infinity blade, angry birds, and make an interesting port of world of goo. Since then, they haven't really done much except make more angry birds and port some of the smaller console games to ios devices (Walking dead, bastion, etc.)

Developers make games for their products. As for the games for ipad that ARE good ones. There's tons of great games for ipad. There's Max Payne, GTA 3, GTA Vice City, NOVA 3, Modern Combat 3 and 4, Bastion, Ravensword 2, Minecraft, Dead Space, Need For Speed Most Wanted, Marathon 1-3, Prince Of Persia: Warrior Within, Sonic 4 (episode 1 and 2), Sim City, The Sims, Wolfenstein, 9mm, Wild Blood, Street Fighter x Tekken, Sonic CD, Shadowgun, Dead Trigger, Superbrothers, Real Racing 2, Plants Vs Zombies, Mass Effect Infiltrator, Metal Slug 1 and 3, Mega Man X, Machinarium, Lili, Final Fantasy Tactics: War Of The Lions,Coaster Crazy, Across Age, Another World, Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, The Bard's Tale, Beat Hazard Ultra, Doom. And so on. Need I continue? These are only games that I personally have, so there's probably tons more I didn't mention.
I reeeeeeally hope this all comes true. Sure, it's not all positive, but overall I think this article paints a very positive image of the year to come.

Will continue to progress, but not too much. EVO have been around for over a decade, not much changed aside from growth and increased communication. It's just branching and rubbing off on other, even more popular, games and genres these days. And you guys are just beginning to notice that and giving investment of your journalism to, so as to be one of the first to do it.

I'm optimistic that Sony will do the "should", the only reason they'll use the worst case scenario is when they're really really broke, and they're not on that level yet. Sony has it right when it comes to consoles, they know that the power of their consoles come from core games, exclusives, and the rest just follows.
I've also heard that they're aware of their standing with 3rd party publishers and that they have a planned project of overseeing the release of well above 60 games within the span of the upcoming year.
Have high hopes for the Vita. Even though it's fashionable to bash. :P

Indie stuff are a great way to counterweight those that think they own the industry and try to monopolize it. I think people are making a stand and it'll all stabilize into a balanced standard of visible differences in games made by real companies with a team of employees and independent studios with time.
- Steam Box To Make Life Difficult for Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo -
Seems like it, but they Steam Box won't attract a lot of share. It strikes me as empowering PC gamers and converts more than anything else.
All in all, I'm eyeing on sequels of particular games, and how Sony in specific will handle its next vital steps.
@Victorious_Fize As a PC gamer, I'm not too sold on the Steam Box making any real dent on the console front either. I think it's actually a great machine to consider before upgrading my desktop, but because it's an open platform, it's honestly just another computer in of itself. Considering that it will be Linux-based, I can't help but think it'll run into compatibility issues with a large amount of 3rd party games, rendering the whole thing pointless.
@Roobyjohnson @Victorious_Fize Spot on. It'll embark on a journey of its own before anything. Which reminds me of how much the industry is really big and varied these days...

Half Life 3 would need something really, really interesting to continue with. Many games have released since HL2, so they're kinda forced to try something new.

Besides, it's just boring. They've done 3 now, it wouldn't be right to not name the next one it's own thing.

If steam box makes it harder for the 3 main companies I think it'll be a good thing, more competition usually means better(lower) prices =P
Games or consoles. I'm looking forward to seeing the new source engine, the one that left 4 dead, portal and so on uses is really nice and smooth but started to look a bit old a while ago because of things like CryEngine and Frostbite.
I just can't wait to see what happens, especially looking forward to GTA V.
@Johny_47 if GTA franchise mated with Saints Sow franchise then we would get the GTA 5 that we all deserve.
@moc5 I couldn't disagree more strongly, they're two different games for a reason, and I'm not going to get into some dull argument over which is better either because I've always had and always will have my personal favourite... and it's not saints row =P
@Johny_47 well now, just to clarify, I am much more a fan of GTA. I am specifically referring to the attrition type game play (buying properties/pushing out rival gangs) and a more meaningful/rewarding feeling of 'growing in power' over time. That said, GTA is the best of the two by far. I think we probably agree for the most part.

I love the look of Ground Zero's, one of the best looking games at E3, my friend is a massive fan of the metal gear games and he thinks that game is probably gonna be for the next consoles and PC. I'm not sure about this though because I said it's probably gonna be one of the last good games before the next consoles come out.
And @Serpentes420 rising is just a crappy game like bayonetta in my opinion so I doubt Hideo Kojima had much at all to do with that.
1 Like @Johny_47 @Serpentes420 Metal Gear Rising appears to be a hack 'n slash action adventure game set in the Metal Gear universe, and I believe is being worked on by both Kojima Productions and PlatinumGames, but I don't think Kojima is actually involved hands on himself, other than being a supervisor. I'll prolly still play it, but it is def not going to be traditional Metal Gear.
7 Like Microsoft has finally been ignoring the PC for too long for the sake of selling more X-Box units. Now they're in danger of loosing the platform entirely. I believe a substantial amount of windows OS' are sold to hardcore gamers, consumers who wouldn't bother with the latest OS if it weren't for games. If Steam makes a new OS based on Linux which will run all the PC games flawless then MS is in serious trouble. Serves MS right too in my opinion. That's what you get for ignoring us PC gamers for so long.
It all started back in the day when MS bought up the studio developing Halo, told them to redo it as an xbox exclusive. That's when it all started. MS has forgotten that PC-games has been the driving force when it comes to people upgrading their OS. If you're not playing games you might just as well use Windows Vista or even XP. I hope we get a Linux alternative. Why stop there; I hope we get an Android alternative too!

If the Steam box has the full version of Dungeon Defenders...then that is veeeeeery tempting.... I still think it is too soon for the nex consoles though. The PS3 is not tapped out yet by any means. I feel like a lemon being juiced for cash. Sell me more games I want, and I will buy them up. You do not need a new console to do that. A new console will completely alienate me from that platform though, so no new $$$ for you. But what really matters most to me, is that my trophies from the PS3 better carry over to the PS4, or screw that.
And seriously...why the hell has the FF7 remake not been on the table, and where the hell is FFvs13? Squinix Facepalm in 2012.
