- The Bottom Line:
- "Almost, but not quite"
As probably everyone knows, this is another game of the serie MX vs ATV that has been running for so many years now.
In this one, you will be able to drive motocross, ATVs, buggies, trucks and few other types of cars. Very often, all these categories will be mixed together and you will find yourself using a truck because you will be tired of being smashed by a truck while racing on your motocross. This can be quite annoying sometimes since you really would want to race motocross or ATVs, as the title suggests. However, you can adjust the skill level in consequence so you may want to play at a lower difficulty but drive your favorite category of car.
There are several modes like motocross, supercross, freestyle, knockout, exploration and few others. When playing multiplayer, you will be also able to play 2 additional modes. In one, you will need to get a ball and keep it for a certain time. In the other mode, as you run, you will leave a trace behind you. Your goal is to make your opponent hit your trace or his. To me, the best one is really motocross or supercross online with 11 other players.
The graphics look quite good. The sound is really good too. I removed the music though, to keep only the engine sound while racing to make all of this more immersive.
On the downside, there are several places where you will turn and fall down for no apparent reasons. You would really though that you took the curve correctly, but apparently the game does not think the same.
The game uses the 2 thumbsticks control which make it work nice. For executing tricks, you will have to hold LB and use your right thumbstick to perform them. That works quite good. In the freestyle event, you will be noted on 5 criteria. Some of them seem to be inconsistent sometimes though.
The single player will take you probably between 10-20 hours to complete all depending on the difficulty that you choose. You may also want to spend additional few hours racing online.
This game will certainly not be part of the history, but it is still enjoyable for the gamers who are looking for an acceptable racing game not too expensive.
