@diskserious You think that the stand alone 320 gb hard drive for $130 is being sold for a loss by microsoft???? wow
Microsoft rolling out $130 stand-alone storage accessory for console later this year, includes free code for Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars.
Microsoft has already announced plans to pepper retailers this holiday season with various limited-edition 320GB Xbox 360 configurations for games like Gears of War 3, Kinect Star Wars, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Gamers interested solely in the expanded hard drive are in luck, as the publisher said today that a stand-alone 320GB accessory will also be available in late October.
The Xbox 360's new top-tier hard drive will be priced at $129.99 when it launches later this month. Microsoft plans to sweeten the deal by including an Xbox Live download code for a free copy of Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars in all regions save Japan, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, and the UAE.
Microsoft has a history of introducing larger capacity hard drives in special edition console bundles before stand-alone retail availability. In 2009, the publisher revealed a number of limited-edition 250GB Xbox 360 hardware bundles, for such games as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Forza 3, before offering that hard drive as a stand-alone product in late 2010.
The Xbox 360 320GB hard drive will be compatible only with S model Xbox 360 consoles.
320GB 7 year old same piece of crap...main reason for stupid games and game regression! Same as Ps3!
Just release a new damn Console already...Like to see some more advanced games and Companys actually puttin in the time to see the true power of DX11 on PC and stuff...but they dont bother mostly with DX11 since consoles dont support it.
Just wait for the 320GB firmware to be hacked and do this; http://www.pcworld.com/article/150970/upgrade_your_xbox_360s_hard_drive_on_the_cheap.html You can get the HD for ~$40 on amazon
@ Malscyllis I think you got your math a little mixed up... if it was like paying $2 per gig for 320GB it would cost $640... its more like paying $.40 per GB. Still not worth it
$129 is the MSRP, so you will probably be able to pick it up for less (Amazon, etc) after it is released. Also, I agree that it appears as though it is overpriced, but we also know that console makers sell their consoles below cost (at least the first couple years) and they make up some of that loss in selling add-ons and other accessories. This is an optional upgrade for people with expendable income. In that light, it is nice that they offer it for those who deem it a worthwhile upgrade.
I just bought a 500 gb HD for 90$ for my ps3 recently and it works great. Easy to back up files (just need another external storage media as a usb flash drive or HD). Can't you do the same with a xbox360? Nowaday at least 60 gb in HD should be a standard in every consoles with all the availeble downloadable content/games and better performance from installing a game instead of running all of it from the disc. Good way to suck up some more money out of the 360 microsoft... just release a new console allready, this is getting ridiculous (for Sony too...). While you're at it why don't you release a 64bit addon required to play 64bit games or invent the pink-theddy-ray and sell an addon for it.
I just upgraded my playstation 3(Western Digital 1 TB Scorpio Blue SATA II 5400 RPM 8 MB Cache 2.5-Inch) for $126.41 massive huh...if you need it here is the link http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005DVJJWQ Its still cheaper than the one for the Xbox 360 with 320 GB
First. 129.99 is the biggest joke since PS3's launch price. Rip off. No thanks, MS. Second. "... will be compatible only with S model Xbox 360 consoles" That effectively screws a pretty large userbase, yes? Bad choice.
I have a 250GB HDD right now. If I ever fill that up (Half way there), I will just buy an external hard drive for half the cost.
Thanks to all this comments (that are true of course) Sony and Micro$oft will "turn incompatibles" the external HDD only to sell their exclusives. If I can obtain a HDD twice as powerful for half price I ll never gonna buy the official MCR$FT or sony HDD. SEE YA
$129.99?! Joke. I bought an 850Gb hard drive for my PS waaaay back in 2009 at 75 quid. You're all being robbed.
still too tiny for me. I have around 150 games and I like to install them to hd. I dream about a terabyte hd for my x360
Great just a Slim model...i dont even have a Slim yet...getting a Slim and a new Hard Drive is too much money...and theres too many games coming out! ugh...v.v oh well...
@Bangerman15 Sure you can get 3TB hdd on pc for that much money, but pc is for porn, while console is for gaming.
@fernin-ker Well I beg to differ, I own both consoles and some of the reasons apart from the ones you mentioned i chose for buying a ps3 were God of War, Metal Gear 4, Little Big planet, Infamous, Heavy Rain and the fact that i prefer the control layout, but thats just me. I also see value in the 360 for their own set of exclusives though.
@notserbamma And I can't understand why anyone would own a PS3 when the only good game on it is Resistance, and maybe Killzone. Uncharted is just terrible, it looks great but the game itself is horrid. If you want a bluray player save the money and buy one at best buy or something for 30 dollars. XD
Microsoft should be focused on making better games. Can't tell you how much it sucks that Gears and Halo are the best exclusives on this system. And also how can you guys deal with games that come on multiple discs? I still just can't understand why people own xboxes...you can put your own hard drives in PS3s
Good luck with selling that microsoft.. i mean honestly, who needs all that space on a gaming console anyway? i understand u might wanna put music and movies on there, maybe some demo's? but 320GB for 130$? lol thats funny =P
@Sanity_Crash yeah just like they do with xbl and stuff like this pushes me away from the 360 more and more
@Lotus-Edge the only way i know of doing thats is using a transfer cable i've seen then on ebay for 10 bucks they're about 25 bucks from a store
@IceJester45 agreed, i really don't need much space either, except for deus ex which i installed only because the loading times are so long without it on xbox. you only really need that much space if your downloading allot of full games or installing them
Too expensive. Besides, it wouldn't work with my Xbox 360. I don't use consoles for a lot of multimedia stuff, anyway (the PC works a hell of a lot better). I don't know why I'd need a hard drive that large for a console. I don't even know how large my PS3 hard drive is because, frankly, I am never going to come anywhere close to filling it up.
@godzillavskong heres some cheap 360 slim 320 bg hard drives on ebay http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=xbox360+320gb+hard+drive&_sacat=See-All-Categories
Price is a rip, nothing new there....It would be nice to just go out and buy the system and not have to jump through fire hoops with the features. Hard drives should have been priced a little lower by like at least $10-15 cheaper also who cares if you hook up a external hard drive the customers bought your system right M$? Also Gold is BS, they should allow all players to play multiplayer but charge for ranked matches and the extra content then it wouldn't be such a sore spot with some of us.
Only reason I would buy an Xbox would be for Gears of War, other than that it's just another over priced piece of plastic. Not saying it's a bad console or anything, just doesn't have much going for it that I'm interested in. I'll stick to my PC and my PS3 =)
What an absolute rip off.. why does Microsoft charge so much for these hard drives. Oh wait, now i remember why.. because people are stupid as hell and actually pay the ridiculously inflated asking price for them without even thinking.
I'd probably get it if I knew how to transfer my stuff from my current hard drive to the new one....
This should come in handy for players who want to install Rage to decrease load times or Battlefield 3's higher-resolution textures.
I upgraded my PS3 HDD 1TB 7200rpm Harddrive in less than $120.... Im not being a fan boy but in this current economy people should think smart.
Engerys You may want to inform people that they risk a ban using those chinese knockoffs. Microsoft call's it "system tampering" and no matter what you do they won't life the ban. I learned the hard way to not use those chinese HDD's. And yes, they can tell the difference because to use those HDD's you have to run a certain program on the HDD and they can tell which HDD's have been formatted the proper way and which haven't.
im wondering if theyll forego even using a ridiculous form factor in the next one and just use a completely misshapen hard drive entirely and not just enclosure. triangle shaped hard drives anyone? and for their 'forward thinking' we can pay an extra 100 dollars. and like everyone else it seems i had no problem popping a new hard drive into my ps3.
@dxdevilex0: With digital downloading on the rise, expect consoles with 320 GB and more to eventually be the standard.
You guys Say 130$ is high, but be on look out on ebay for those chinese stolen hard drives that are mysteriously 30%-50% off retail (suck that outsourcing) but why all the new addons i understand console makers need to make money why not release loads of good games instead.
