Ubisoft releases five new maps for recent Tom Clancy title, while free modes arrive for Sierra's supernatural action game, with multiple map packs on the way.
A pair of Xbox 360 shooters are getting injections of new content this week, as the Xbox Live Marketplace now features a map pack for Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Vegas and a free update for Sierra Entertainment's F.E.A.R.
In April, Ubisoft rolled out the Player's Pack: Red Edition for Rainbow Six Vegas. The downloadable content bundle featured two new game types and five new maps. Now the other shoe has dropped, as Rainbow Six Vegas players can download the Player's Pack: Black Edition from the Xbox Live Marketplace, which includes five maps, three of them entirely new, and two revamped versions of older Rainbow Six maps. Like the Red Edition before it, the Black Edition pack sells for 800 Microsoft points ($10).
Clocking in at 120MB, the F.E.A.R. update adds a pair of new multiplayer game types to the supernatural shooter. In control mode, players work in teams to seize and hold three separate points on a map for the longest stretch of time. Conquer all mode builds on the control mode rules with five key points. A team can win the match by controlling all five points at once, with time of possession and team kills determining a winner if no team can secure all five points simultaneously.
Sierra Entertainment has also said that it will release three new map packs for F.E.A.R. over the course of the summer.
[UPDATE] The Rainbow Six Vegas Player's Pack: Black Edition has been pulled from the Xbox Live Marketplace. Representatives with Ubisoft and Microsoft have not yet returned GameSpot's requests for an explanation on why the pack was pulled, or when it will be made available again.
Yea....well nobody likes ur face but we don't normally say anything!!! ...Leave Sony alone...u know u blatantly had a PS2, and if not poor u...it's still outselling all consoles even now! ;P ...give PS3 a chance to build some steam and lets all get back to gd ol' Bill Gates bashing! =P lol, j/k, I also had an X360...had to sell it coz was skint but am buying an Elite! ...but seriously when did he become cool all of a sudden!? haha.
PS3 gets all the exclusive content because Sony pays the companies to put them in so then people will buy the PS3. BUT NOBODY LIKES THE PS3!!!
all this fanboy crap has to stop "M$" "MS" "Micro$oft" whatever you wanna call them watch what I can do "$ony" oooooo....why can we not leave ppl alone for having a personal preference, it goes with anything. Fishing, Racing, hunting, there are different brands because competition is healthy. I vote for M$ and will stick with it am I going to knock a $ony "fanboy" no. I don't mind being micro transacted to death and besides most of the content ends up free at some point. MRVL ULT alliance, case in point. anyway my first comment, so yay M$ and $ony fanboys we spend the money and control them not the other way round lets work together.
i heard it is only free for today ......i got it at 1 in the morning......a bunch of people said it wuz only free for today
Yay, Black Edition is free (FTW!!!!!!!!) http://rainbowsixgame.us.ubi.com/newspost.php?news_id=6099
ICECOLDKILLA78 THATS NOT TRUE I BOUGHT MY COPY LAST NIGHT AND PLAYED IT ONLINE THERE ARE ALOT OF ONLINE GAMERS FOR PS3 RAINBOW 6 ..IM SATISFIED WITH THE GAME IM ALSO GLAD THAT THE EXTRA MAPS CAME WITH THE GAME FOR FREE..I GUESS THATS WHY YOUR UPSET IS BECAUSE MS IS CHARGING FOR THE SAME CONTENT
Its nice and all to see these updates, but I wish Microsoft didn't make publishers charge for them... Microsoft you are so gay stop the pickpocketing already with micro-transactions you butt pirates
yeah you can play for free with the ps3 sdkingsht but to bad only like 10 people actually have a ps3, hope you can find a game...
why did they pull the vegas map pack? i almost bought it yesterday but decided to hold off 1 week and now its gone? if it doesnt come back thats gonna suck
Don't own either game, never even played FEAR, but it is always good to see proper use of the Market Place.
I dont mind paying for content, the only thing that i don't like is that it makes games i have completed hard for me to sell, i mean if i have bought the game, then bought 2 packs at 1600 ms points, i lose that. It's not transferable so i either keep the games forever, gathering dust, or lose the cash. It's not the amount of cash, just the principle. I would much prefer buying a disk with the content on. Also, Ubisoft will most likely release a full "premium edition" eventually, which will make my copy of R6V worth nothing.
Micro transactions like these suck. You have to pay to play, and you have to pay for new maps. True that you don't have to buy it if you don't want it, but if you're going to make me pay for something, at least let it be a full expansion pack like Lord of Destruction was to Diablo 2 or something substantial, not a pack of 3 maps for $10, that's just ripping console people off. You don't see them try that on PC, heck, the maps are usually free in an update patch! So why do the console players have to pay more, if they're already making the map for PC, and for free? (maps in general, not just for R6V)
"As a capitalist and business owner, I say let supply and demand determine whether this stuff should be free. If people are willing to pay me for my skills, I will charge them. I guarantee, as soon as people stop paying for extras on marketplace, they will dry up. Not that they will be given away for free, they will just disappear. Why should a company spend countless hours building content for a game they already finished if no one is willing to pay for it." Fine by me... they can disappear then. Maybe then publishers can focus on bringing out new games with new maps and improved gameplay, features, controlls, graphics.... whatever! Wouldn't that be nice? No... lets get an update for FEAR!?!?
i agree with DryvBy2. but there have been plenty of articles detailing how MS refused to give anything free. or if they do (FEAR) its for a game that's what...2 years old now? who the hell is still playing FEAR on LIVE? seriously. oh and PS3 Vegas, with packs & exclusive modes/maps = $60. playing PC and PS3 online = free
i'm excited to play R6. i pick it up today for the PS3. the wait has kind of sucked but at least i don't have to worry about paying for the extra maps and modes. not to mention i can play for free online. patience is a virtue i suppose.
I was highly disappointed in the Vegas: Red Pack. I can't understand how these publishers sucker 360 owners on this crap when you get this stuff for free on a PC. PC Vegas = $50 - $40 360 Vegas, with packs = $80+ Better yet, the PC version looks better. What's the deal, MS?
It's nice to see developers taking advantage of the Marketplace with extra maps, etc. to increase replay value. With several games now, right when I start getting bored with them, something cool will come along to extend my experience with it, even if it does cost a few bucks. This is good for the most part, but some companies are downright abusing the microtransaction system by making people pay for stuff that's already on the disc (cough, DDR, cough). As long as companies keep selling worthwhile stuff that wasn't included in my original $60 disc, I'm going to keep buying. Oh, and yay for free FEAR stuff. The new modes sound pretty sweet.
Rainbow 6 Vegas maps should be free after you have already paid for game. Does anyone know if people still play FEAR online? because i was thinking of getting it but ive heard no many people still play it nowadays
Fear has to have like the best on-line play on the 360 i hope they can put PC and 360 multi play soon
"WarriorsDoom: haha, nice. You boys on your 360 get what we on the PC have had for months. not only do you get it late, but you have to pay too. fun The PC has had those game modes since, what was it? november? december? last year." But the big advantage on Live is that we don't have to play with a bunch of PC owning snobs who think they rule the planet and feel they have to look down their noses at console owners... and that alone makes it worth at least $100. Nor do console owners have to update their over-priced machines every time a new game comes out, we don't have to check a list of specs to make sure a game will play on our machine and we get a controller custom designed for gaming not a keyboard designed for typing letters. As for the 360 becoming like a PC, lets not mention the PS3 which is so crippled by a games shortage its having to rip off PC software like Second Life to try and cover up the fact that Sony don't seem too bothered about games this time round.
haha, nice. You boys on your 360 get what we on the PC have had for months. not only do you get it late, but you have to pay too. fun :P The PC has had those game modes since, what was it? november? december? last year.
jakinja Damn that's all free on the PSN. But it's good to see that the XBL version is still including it. Everyone was soooo happy that the ps3 version got "exclusive maps." I kept tryin to tell them it wasn't exlcusive. I mean of course they will try to make more money off it... NOw lets look forward to getting cross-platform multiplayer. That will be exceptional!!!!! ____________________________________________________________ Hey the difference is I didn't fork out an extra $10 for the PS3 version. Especially you early R6 adoptors. What if those 360 owners didn't want to throw their 10 into MS? Then they don't get the maps. Ouch!!!!
"What's that? The PS3 version comes with the Red edition maps and exclusive maps without paying extra money for it? You don't say..." -- ihatebugers the PS3 version also comes out a few months shy of a YEAR later.
As a capitalist and business owner, I say let supply and demand determine whether this stuff should be free. If people are willing to pay me for my skills, I will charge them. Why should a company spend countless hours building content for a game they already finished if no one is willing to pay for it. I will be giving up my 800 points tonight and getting on live. Thank you Ubisoft for your market driven additions to R6.
What's that? The PS3 version comes with the Red edition maps and exclusive maps without paying extra money for it? You don't say...
does anyone else NOT see the Black Edition out on XBL yet... (i still don't see it after trying a bunch of times)
If this is the way its gonna be I suggest doing what Gears did, release map packs for points so the hardcore users will buy and then down the road release them for free.
Playing Xbox One games on somebody else's console will also require a check-in every hour. Full Story
