Nice, 3D movies. It would be cool if I could link those movies to a 3D HD TV and watch them in 3D there..
Nintendo Japan pushes back the latest Nintendo 3DS update; a patch will be available "before December 8."
The industry is no stranger to game delays, but it's less common that a firmware update gets pushed back. Nintendo originally planned a system update for the Nintendo 3DS on November 30, but with just hours to go, the House of Mario has delayed the release by a few days.
Nintendo of Japan has delayed the latest Nintendo 3DS update by about a week, saying it needed more time to prepare the patch. In a statement on its website, Nintendo of Japan said that the firmware update would be available to download "before December 8."
While the update isn't set to implement any groundbreaking new features to the handheld console, some of the changes include the ability to record and play 3D movies, have new levels in StreetPass Quest, and have the option to transfer data between Nintendo 3DS consoles.
@Flint247 Oh man I completely forgot about those GBA games! How could I?!? I was more pumped for them than the GBA games than the NES,because the GBA games include Yoshi's Island, considered by many of the older gamers to be the best 2D platformer ever. One way or another,it's definitely up there, and I can wait to have it in my pocket everywhere I go. Another thing I really want: More AR support! Sony has really up the ante with their AR,So lets see it happen on 3DS! An AR war can only be good for us,the consumer,as it pushes cooler and cooler AR games into our hands. Also Flipnote Studios 3D! Personal 3D animations anyone?
@mutley89 Not really. If you've seen the 3D quality of the 3DS's 3D images then you know about what to expect. It won't be high-quality 3D video. And this stuff was mentioned back before the 3DS even came out. They didn't have it on the system at launch.
Once again Nintendo proves that even adding minor and expected features to their 3D handheld gaming device is too much work for them.
"While the update isn't set to implement any groundbreaking new features to the handheld console, some of the changes include the ability to record and play 3D movies" ..........wait being able to film in 3D is not considered groundbreaking? ok then.
Nintendo with the Wii said that games are more important. That is why it is not a dvd player compatible or changed the hardware. I want those 10 games, that is why people bought a 3DS
transfer data between 3ds units is what i want... ill use this feature when they release the princess peach 3ds they released in japan over here in the states :P
Too be honest, I'm still in shock that Nintendo is providing legitimate updates to the 3DS. They haven't really done that with the Wii and the DS (any of them). It's a happy shock, though. I'm glad Nintendo is improving its system after its release. Can't imagine why there's a delay, but it's less than a week later, so it's fine. Still waiting on news about the GBA ambassador games.
Man, folk should be grateful they got the cash to own a 3DS. Otherwise, you wouldn't have a delay to complain about!
@thenerd64 By the end of the years that's what they said but we haven't heard any news until now except the 5 first game they will give and with Holiday time coming somehow i doubt we will really be able to get thoses 10 game this year...
they should throw in picto chat and flip notes studio too. It would be cool if you can chat automatically with people in your friends list
@JustPlainLucas I'd love a chat feature on the 3DS as well, but I wouldn't hold my breath. They don't even have messaging yet, and the thing has been out over 8 months. They don't even have the PictoChat that the Ds had.
I don't understand how firmware updates can be pushed back whatsoever. But I'm more surprised Nintendo remembers it needs to update it's systems, considering no meaningful updates were ever made available for the DSi.
"needed more time to prepare the patch" = "try to find out how latest flashcarts are circumventing anti-piracy and adapt accordingly"
@ChiefFreeman I don't think phone companies would allow the 3DS to send messages to other 3DS users because that would be like Text Messaging and the cell phone companies are really really really anal about loosing profit. That's probably why it didn't have it in the first place.
I am more concerned about where my 10 free GBA games are. I suppose they are going to wait until the last minute so that it doesn't effect people's buying habits towards new 3DS games but Nintendo said they would give 3DS ambassadors 10 free GBA games by the end of the year and that is closing in fast and yet no word of a date or even what half the games will be.
I'm still just waiting for the patch that makes the 3DS a decent handheld. Games are decent, but the UI of that thing is not so decent...
I'm guessing it's going to be December 8th for everyone I read that the update is the same for Europe on the Nintendo Shop in the news section.
I could care less if this got delayed. I would never use the 3D video recording anyway. What I'M waiting for, are the GBA games and Swapnote.
"the update isn't set to implement any groundbreaking new features to the handheld " Really? 3d video recording its not a groundbreaking feature for an update?
Aw.Sadness.Oh well. What are 8 days compared with the infinite void of time? I'll likely be busy finishing up Super Mario 3D Land. Or smelling that new game box smell from the inside of a freshly opened copy of MarioKart 7.
ah, and so I thought the new model of 3DS would have dual analog sticks. I foresee 3D video capturing/playing will have some issues on this update.
mh, would be nice if they implement a youtube application, or atleast flash support in the browser, ^_^ well they forgot to mention the new message system is coming as well! 8D
My wife has just bought me one of the black Zelda 3DS's, and she's being cruel and making me wait til Xmas(!) :( Oh well, something to really look forward to, and this dash update will be in by then, so good news. Looking forward to giving the 3DS a spin - if I'm honest, I only wanted it truly for one game, and it's not Zelda or Mario - it's Luigi's Mansion 2. I fell in love with the original and just can't wait for a proper sequel. The trailers I've seen give me very high hopes for it.
It's not too bad, I'd say. An extra eight days isn't going to be that big of a bother to anyone! Haha
So, I'm guessing this is only in Japan. That'd be cool of America gets the video player soon as well.
