Anarchy Reigns dev 'in the dark' about delay

Platinum Games' executive producer Atsushi Inaba claims Sega never told studio of Western delay, says development on action game finished.
Yesterday, Sega delayed the Western release date for Anarchy Reigns for a fourth time. Its developer, Platinum Games, had no idea this would be the case until Sega broke the news over Twitter, claims executive producer Atsushi Inaba in a series of tweets last night.
Platinum had no idea Anarchy Reigns was delayed to 2013 until Sega said so on Twitter, Inaba claims.
"Today's Q1 2013 release news was the first we'd heard of it," he said. "Even if we wanted to, we can't comment as we're (still) in the dark officially. I want to sincerely apologize to all the fans worldwide for all the confusion this situation has caused. Even though we are the game's developers, we can only do so much about this."
Inaba explained that development on all international versions of Anarchy Reigns is complete, and the game's delay in the West has nothing to do with additional time needed to prepare the title to hit store shelves.
Anarchy Reigns was originally announced as a fall 2011 title, before being pushed to January 2012, and then again to July 3, and once more to later in the month. No specific reason for the latest delay was divulged.
Anarchy Reigns is a third-person brawler set in a postapocalyptic war zone filled with tsunamis, black holes, and other hazards. The game will feature online multiplayer using existing characters from the studio's previous title MadWorld, as well as original characters.

Sega is broke and can't afford to press, print and distribute the international version until japanese sales come in? Just a guess...
Kamiya isn't even working on Anarchy Reigns, I think. But otherwise its Sega to blame here, not Platinum.
Besides, I bet they're just as frustrated as we are about this sudden delay.

@Xplode_77 But this delay comes from Sega, not Platinum games, they even said that the game is completely finished (So I read in Gamesindustry.biz)
This game needed to come out this summer. The holiday and post holiday releases will steamroll a game like this sadly.
What the hell Sega? Release the game over the summer drought and you'll definitely have some sales. Atlus was smart enough to pull that with Catherine and it turned out to be a success.
I soooooooooo!! want this game to triumph in reviving the beat em up/brawler genre then maybe sega could give us a new streets of rage but these unexplained delays only make consumers lose trust. This game better be good sega

...I want to strangle each and every hobo that currently runs one of Sega's international branches from the local sewage treatment center's storage closet. That doesn't make me a bad person, does it?
Lets hope they can polish the game more due to the delay. Gears 3 is a good example of why delays can be beneficial.

2 Like Here is probably how it went down: "There is no competition for the product in July, which means nobody will be in the game stores. If we release it among a ton of bigger-name titles early next year, there will be a lot of gamers going in to get those, and they will probably choose this instead! While we're all here, anyone got any bad ideas for how can ruin Sonic some more?"
The "competition" doesn't have to be in the same month you know it could be the month b4 or after. Also thier is no competition "You" see, that doesn't mean that thier are competition that Sega identifys.
Sega probably thinks that thier is a game or games that is going to be released same time in the west and feel it might affect sales, so they delay it until they feel like thier is no competing titles in the month, that is my opinion of what i think is going on. It is not a bad move it is smart buisness on thier end as they are just trying to make money for thier game that they put hardwork into.
At least we can import.
SEGA must be broke. That's the only explanation that makes sense to me.

Nobody should be surprised. Sega pulled the okie-doke on Obsidian to when Alpha Protocol's delay wasn't announced until the day of release. Plus, as fun as this game is probably going to be, Sega is probably scared it's going to only move like 500 units. Which is damn sure a possibility with today's fickle bunch.
3 Like Platinum Games and the Yakuza series is the only thing that has even kept Sega on my radar in the last few years. Dear Sega, get your head out of your you know where, and release the damn game. Dev says it ready, lets go.

6 Like Obviously Sega fears the game will fail in the US shoers, like most japanese games released this generation. I remember the old days, when japanese titles were the cream of the crop and I would approach US titles with fear.But now it's backwards.
1 Like @alex33x Actually this is a strategic move by SEGA's investors. They're are preparing to abandon the multiplatform packaged publishing business. The cut off date worldwide has been set for February 2013 11 years after Sega Dreamcast was officially discontinued.
The cutt-off date in Japan is even earlier. Yakuza 5 will be the final SEGA 3rd party console release. Going forward, SEGA's 3rd party business will be limited only to Digital,Social Networking,PC,Mobile and Portable content. SEGA had planned on releasing Anarchy Reigns this summer, but the investors have chosen to finalize publication of both Alien: Colonial Marines and Anarchy Reigns. SEGA wants its 3rd party exit to go out with a bang churning out both titles at the same time.
Sega Orbi Enterprises is forming. And soon they'll be launching their very own gaming Android tablet and a while later will re-enter the console business.

2 Like @alex33x I agree that Japanese games were once the cream of the crop (before the HD era), but I don't think anything's reversed. Now everything is garbage. Japanese devs are too busy emulating the west and trying to pander to people who will never buy their games, which is why Anarchy Reigns will fail miserably like so many others.
1 Like @istuffedsunny The unfortunate truth. They need to hurry up and smarten up already - get back to your style through-and-through. The west is not the cream of the crop. The Japanese have always been a group that can take something, throw their own spin on it and have it be something of uniqueness, something different, or something innovative, or, at least, something of re-newed interest. Why can't we have that again?
@istuffedsunny it is actually backwards to me. apart from all the fps, the west have been releasing some really good games. cant say the same for japan. their games are feeling lackluster as hell.

@meaniceDX Hard for Runescape to be a world of Warcraft ripoff when 1) Runescape is a sandbox mmo and 2) Runescape is 3 years older than WoW.
@emperiox ...Do my eyes deceive me or did someone say some crappy internet Mmo rip off of World of Warcraft actually get compared to a game that could get more money in the first month of its time on the shelf. You sir, have mental issues and should head to your near therapist about how mentally handicapped you can really be. I mean really!? Have you tried the game? Even if it gets a 4.0 I belive the game is still better than Runescape in every way, For example the graphics. I mean come on, those graphics are terrible. Eye sore terrible.
