Bethesda staffing up for next-generation consoles

The reason I don't want the "Next Gen Consoles" so soon is they will cost a ridiculous amount... probably like $600 or so. Since almost every time a new console is released it is way more expensive than the previous console. On that point if this is the case I will drop my console altogether and turn my currently awesome PC into an absolute monster... This will also be the rebirth of PC when Consoles overprice themselves.

Uhm... as long as these new staff aren't working on my precious Fallout 4, which I am expecting sometime near the end of next year. Then it's ok Bethesda hire away. =)

Well at least they are getting a headstart on making these games for new consoles. I don't want new consoles to come out, but they will at some point.

Bethesda makes bile games themselves. The games they've taken over like Elder Scrolls and Fallout are great. As long as they are made for PC it's fine by me.

@Olgark "Why develop for the console? Why are the game developers leaving the pc platform?" It's pretty simple. There is no such an idea as a 'next gen pc'. Pc's always have newer tech being made, meaning they can usually be steadily improved. Consoles, however, stick with the same hardware until their 'next gen' debuts. Don't kid yourself, either. There will always be pc developers on the bleeding edge of that pc tech.

@Landsharkk No need to apologize, I wasn't offended. Neither was I trying to offend anyone. I game on consoles and my PC. My original post was just to defend the PCs place in these franchises, nothing more. But to be clear I want to see any future games in Fallout and ES on both console and PC.

@JTrockin Sorry about my post, I didn't mean it to be offensive to anyone. I just mean to respond with a counter to the entire conversation. I meant to convey that both consoles and PC's do effect each other in positive ways as well. Although I doubt they will deny the next ES game from the PC gamers. I think the announcement regarding the next gen console was just to get some hype going for the next gen consoles. :)

@Landsharkk I was in no way trying to undermine what consoles have done for gaming. The point of my comment was simply to defend what the PC has done for these games. Telling PC gamers "There's the door" when the franchise started on PC is utterly ridiculous no matter how you try to spin it.

remember 1 thing that you should all know. Consoles are actually PCs. they are all created by softwares and have different engines. the only differences is Names,portable size and developed by different companies. in reality they want to be competitive and where the money lies in!.

@Olagark i agree with you my friend but alot of hackers breach the system copyrights. thats why for developing PC games there isn't much profit, for Game developers making. there actually losing out.

Why develop for the console? Why are the game developers leaving the pc platform? We pc gamers put them where they are and now they give us rubbish conversions which the public modders like Nexus has to fix with HD resolution packs and improved UI's. In the end the PC will always be a more powerful platform than a console and yet we get low resolution textures and crappy converted UI controls that are more suited to a gamepad than a keyboard and mouse.

@Vambran Gothic 3 already done that. You only load the game at the first time when you start then you don't have to load anymore. You can walk into the building, cave or city in real time without loading screen. Even fast travel doesn't have any loading screen.

Hire for PC while you're at it. We're tired of getting the short shift.

@Syk0_ko3r What are you talking about those who effed up Skyrim? I don't understand how you could think that they effed it up. First of all it has sold over a million copies, won Game of the Year by most major gaming news sources, and is loved by many people. If you think that Betheseda will fire anyone for making one of the best games ever, you are crazy and need to learn what you are talking about before you get on here and troll with a dumb statement.

@ezjohny If they are just starting work on games for it, it isn't close at all in all likelihood. I would guess 2+ years from now honestly. So probably Christmas 2014.

This is a good sign, that there going to be working on the next generation game titles. The system just might be around the corner who knows that's the question!!!

New Vegas was barely even a Bethesda game -- it was Obsidian, based on a Bethesda engine. That said, Fallout 4 with a whole "Fallout Tactics-like" party combat system would be a big "YES PLEASE."

Will they ever be able to make a good combat system? New Vegas was the closests they have come but for real are they ever going to figure out a fun and interesting combat system to go along with their otherwise great games?

@BradBircher New Vegas was the fourth Fallout game and the game is NOT underrated, so your whole comment is invalid.

Hell, I'm ready for a next gen console in year or two. I'm still loving Skyrim, but by then I will all for a new ES game on a next gen. Can't wait to see how gorgeous it will be. Also I hope MS doesn't change the controller too much on their next gen console. Something about the Xbox controller is just perfect the way it is, besides those little nubs on the thumb sticks wearing down until they're smooth... is that annoying for anyone else?

No but really, SEGA tried the modular upgrade thing - and failed. Its too expensive to develop add-ons for your old tech when your competition is rolling out new consoles, which means you have to follow suit sooner or later. IMO 2-3 years from now is the ideal time for a new generation of consoles, its not like they're hitting the streets tomorrow...

Why does everyone want a new console generation? Is your money burning a hole in your pocket? I have yet to see a real need to upgrade console hardware over the current generation. Publishers will probably start crying about how much more expensive it is to develop games for the new consoles and try to jack the prices up another $10. Why does there have to be a whole new console platform anyway? Can't they just improve upon the existing platform, such as making an xbox 360 with a blu-ray player and/or faster graphics processor? MS can set a date whereby all games will transition from HD DVD to Blu-ray, say sometime in 2014. The current 360's have a number of USB ports, surely MS can develop an add-on blu-ray for the existing systems. The graphics processing may be a bit more tricky, but surely they can put some kind of identifier on the packaging to state what kind of Xbox graphical processor is required to play a game.

I'd love to see what they could do with a open world Science Fiction setting to be honest. They've already done to very different open world setting brilliantly, so I'd have faith in them!

I don't think Nintendo really do generations do they? just seem to come out with something as and when they feel like it, lol. Although personally I don't think we need a new generation of consoles yet, hardly any games have taken full advantage of the current hardware yet and dev's have pleanty of trouble getting this much detail into games.

New Bethesda Game+New Console=Happy Day. I am ready for a new console. My guess is 2013 or 2014

I would love a chance to write missions and quests! Whether it is medevil, postnuclear or a new style. My creative mind just can't stop travelling!

@JTrockin Also remember, there might not have even been a Skyrim or Fallout 3 at all if consoles didn't exist. Consoles brought gaming to a whole new group of people across the globe, allowing a much wider audience for developers to reach with their games. It's possible a lot of games we have out today for the PC would never have been made if the game consoles weren't there to boost sales numbers.

@Hurvl, No Sony said they are not working on a console. Microsoft is hiring people to make its new console. They just said its not going to be released by this year. But probably it will be out on 2013. @nate1222, this generations was longer than any other, 360 has already 7 years, its old already. Really, its time for a new generation. And If they make good improvements, I am sure that they will get a huge sales amount, specially now that the game industry is bigger than ever.

I don't see the next (8th) gen doing all that great from a sales standpoint. The current (7th) gen brought with it industry wide grievances against consumers and I see the 8th gen repeating that. While most Gamespot bloggers and journalists might be eager for it, the average consumer obviously isn't. I see the 8th (next) gen doing commercially poorly. But the industry's MO (like most industries) is to come up with stuff to sell and please their investors and share holders. So, whether most people want it or not, we're gonna get an 8th gen. Journalists need something 'new' to report, their jobs depend on it. So they're gonna promote it -even if they wouldn't go out and buy it themselves.

Innovation and the new consoles are just around the corner. But except for adding more horse power and a bigger hard drive and an improved graphic card what else can be new. It will be interesting.

You know the next gen is approaching soon when you see companies getting ready for it. I don't understand why some people don't want it to happen soon. Sony's and MS's consoles are showing their age, and they know it.

@Lotus-Edge Just remember... Elder Scrolls and Fallout STARTED on PC. Us "PC Elitists" opened that door for you to play them in the first place. Don't make us regret it...

But Microsoft and Sony have already said that they're not working on a new console and now this? For Bethesda's sake and the people they're hiring I hope the companies are lying (which wouldn't be that surprising). Otherwise, they'll have nothing to work on other than Rolling Thumbs: The Waiting Game.

Whatever the next game is... Make sure it has, at least, 227% more Sheogorath.

They should just hire Project CD or FromSoftware and let them make a much better TES.

Experience of 360 an PS3? Well that's good news straight away.. multi-plat :D Please to god be a new Elder Scrolls game, I absolutely love them. The games are just never ending, it's what gaming should be :)

And this next gen game will have a whole new next-gen engine, just like Skyrim did, right? Right guys? New engine wasn't it, remember? Teehee!

They might want to hire some quality-control people this time around. Or at least hire some that are sober. Might be a good idea.

If you make games, would you not be getting prepared for the next gen games for new system releases. They tell us these games take years to make, only makes sense to get started with personal. Thanks for the news flash.

Well they just did elder scrolls..They havent touched fallout in a few years..This is the next logical start..Time will tell though what there working on..Most of us wont no until 2013 2014 any how..Its been a very slow year for games any how..E3 is around the corner though..Will see what games are slated maybe some surprise apearances..
