Black Ops II sells 1M at GameStop midnight launch

Latest Call of Duty off to quick start at specialty retailer; analyst predicts total day-one sales of 6.5-7.2 million.
Call of Duty: Black Ops II is off to a hot start. GameStop president Tony Bartel said in an email to Bloomberg today that the speciality retailer sold more than 1 million copies of Treyarch's new shooter at its midnight launch alone.
Additionally, analyst Michael Olson estimates that Black Ops II shifted between 6.5 million and 7.2 million units in day-one sales, which is on par with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3's day-one haul of 6.5 million units in 2011.
The most successful Call of Duty launch to date is Modern Warfare 3, which generated $775 million in revenue during its first five days last year. Activision has not announced official sales data for Black Ops II yet.

well to bad im an art student and actually like top notch console graphics like Halo 4 and not 7 year old graphics like blops 2.
Hate the game all you want...still doesn't change the fact that its the best CoD game to date.

If I wanted a futuristic shooter I would get halo or crysis(they do it better). Why did CoD have to go that way? Gave up on the series after BOps. I'm glad there is still a good community playing the first BOps and MW2.
You obviously haven't played it. Its not a sci-fi with laser guns and aliens. all the technology used in the game actually exists today. They just stream lined and projected what it would actually look like 20 some years from now. But yes, go play Halo 4 with your emo buds and talk about cutting yourself while not conforming...

I was one of them and I will continue to be as long as they make COD. Love the series too damn much :P

2 Like Love and hate are not opposites- they are one in the same. The opposite of love and hate is indifference. Nobody really loves the Dora the Explorer games- I don't see any hate for them either. I see a lot of hate for COD; necessarily, there is much love. The games are obviously great, because 1.) They break records every year (which supports they are viewed positively by a large group), and 2.) If they were not, people would be indifferent of them. Contrastingly, if they sold poorly, and people hated them, then you may have justification to hate. But obviously your only true justification (or at least the most causal factor) is that there is much love for the games. Just thought I'd break the cynisism and uneducated arguement with some actual supportive evidence, which happens to conclude (objectively, I might add), in favour of Call of Duty.
@SmashBrawlerBoy while I basically agree, might I point out the popularity of things like the jersey shore?
4 Like Even tho its a recycled game, i actually appreciate the effort treyach put into its campaign, it is in my opinion, a step in the right direction.
Think about it, the previous COD where all jus cookie cutter shooter gallery, with BlackOps2, we get an intro to a fully fleshed out villian, Strike Force mode n some degree of choice on how the story plays. In the future, i would like to see treyach work more on those base ideas in a more expansive way, perhaps Strike Force can act as revelant story fillers that solves the problem of 4-5hr campaigns
7 Like Same old thing. Idiots who are too dumb to realize that all they did is change a few things like the title screen and you get the same game as last year, and the year before that and before that and so forth.

@suprsolider The fools are the haters who simply fail to understand that not everyone has to like or not like the same stuff they do.Call of Duty fans know what they are getting when they shell out 60 dollars every year. And they obviously happen to like it. Why do you think the numbers keep growing? They like the formula, and they find the game more smooth and fun than other shooters. That doesn´t make them dumb. You don´t like it? Cool. But if you think other people are dumb just because they enjoy something you don`t, then you`re a pretty ignorant person.
Money comes by so easy, and the game is fun to play so whats the problem ? A night on the town will cost you three times the amount and only get you a hang over and a cheap lay if your lucky.
@rad8045 @suprsolider can't argue with that. I went to a movie and out to dinner and it cost about 80$ by the time I got home. That was for 2 people and we didn't even go to an expensive restaurant. That makes a 60 dollar game seem not so bad anymore

I'm not a fan of CoD by any means. But I found the thumbnail funny and I wanted to read the article. Then I like to read what the "haters" say because sometimes I agree with them, but I'm not going to shit talk just for the sake of it. If I was going to point out something negative it would be more constructive than CoD sucks. But most of the intelligible anti CoD arguments have already been made and in the long run it really doesn't matter.
