'Bright future' promised for Saints Row, Metro by new owner

Deep Silver parent company Koch Media "really excited" to lead franchises into the future; plans to share plans for each series in coming months.

Deep Silver parent company Koch Media has promised a "bright future" for the Saints Row and Metro franchises, which it acquired yesterday as part of the THQ bankruptcy auction. The company also purchased Saints Row developer Volition Inc.

"Both the Saints Row and the Metro franchises perfectly fit into our future lineup and strategy," Deep Silver international commercial director Menno van der Bil said in a statement. "We're really excited to lead these well-respected licenses into a bright new future."

Future plans for the Saints Row and Metro franchises will be announced in the coming months, the company said. Saints Row 4 is currently in development at Volition, and Metro: Last Light is due for release later this year.

In total, Koch Media spent over $28 million to acquire the Saints Row and Metro franchises and the Champaign, Illinois-based Volition. No other bidding party spent more during yesterday's auction.

Saints Row and Metro add to Deep Silver's existing stable of franchises, which include Dead Island, Risen, Nail'd, and Sacred.

What saints row 4 needs: ACTUAL FUCKING PACING, once that gets done and I don't get bored cause I'm shooting nukes all over the city around 5 minutes into the game then I'll be happy.

Sr3 was a huge let down. They took everything out from sr1 and sr2, killed gat and made pierce you're sidekick and the boss became a  clown. This game just didn't have that sr feeling..

@MsUchiha I almost wish they stuck with the undercover cop idea that they originally had, Even that would be closer to Saints Row and it would be cool to see the game from the perspective of a Troy like character. But yeah for Saints Row 4 I want to see the series go back to its roots more then anything else.

Saints Row 3 was ridiculously over the top funny, but I definitely missed a lot of the depth and missions that made Saints Row 2 awesome. I hope SR 4 is a huge improvement.

As long as they don't go back to the Respect system in the first two games, I'm up for whatever they change in Saints Row 4.

I hated the fact that you had to do side quests in order to build up enough respect to continue the main story. If they switch back to that then I'm going to have to check out of buying SR4.

@WeskerTeam exactly, the only thing they did properly in sr3 was the control setup

@WeskerTeam Agreed. Saints Row really took a downturn with 3. It disappointed me more since i was let down by GTA going away from what i liked about it. SR3 just went too far over the top mindless

I doubt they can make it a worse game than SR3 >_>

I agree with @Majkic666, Saint's Row 3 was sort of a letdown because it was as Yahtzee (Zero Punctuation) said,"its fun because it plays directly to masturbatory fun, but this? is done at the cost of context and challenge", I felt like the wackyness was being shove down my throat, most of the missions played like side missions, the choices in the end made NO SENSE, the customization were wack . SR 2 was GREAT, because I had a nice balance seriousness and silliness, it was actually funny, I could take a break from the missions and do crazy sh*t and it was rewarding.

Wow, that's quite a bit for Deep Silver to take on.

Saints Row 3 was amazing, I didn't like 1 or 2 but 3 was the game GTA 4 should have been and still Rockstar aren't letting you play the full single player campaign in coop like Saints Row 3 let you.

At this point I don't care about GTA 5, especially as it ain't coming to PC any time soon, so bring on Saints Row 4.

lingo56
lingo56

@Tixylixx Eh not really. I think if you combined Saints 3 and Gta 4 tograther into one glorious combo THAT would be amazing. All Saints 3 needed was more seriousness and what Gta 4 needed was less seriousness. Like Saints 3 it wasn't fun because what the heck is rewarding about getting a helicopter the first 30 minutes of the game and doing everything that should've been in the climax of the game at the start. But gta 4 thkes it too slowly. God damn 2 hours in and I STILL don't have a gun. Jeez. So if they combine the two and make the customisation great then INSTABUY. Oh also they needed more than a co-op mutiplayer for Saints 3 Gta 4 did it better in my opinon. (Also I know people are going to say play Saints 2 cause what you said was exactly that can go back to playing Saints 2)

@Tixylixx Woah woah ok I agree with you about the GTA IV part but damn don't say you don't care about GTA V dude. Rockstar will makeup for GTA IV's mistakes :D

Not particularly a fan of Deep Silver. Dead Island was hyped so much, and then when I finally bought it, disappointment. It's a decent game, but there are so many problems with it. Totally half-assed. I hope they don't ruin the series they just acquired.

I am taking a 'wait and see' approach with this.  I haven't played any of the Koch Media/Deep Silver games, so I can't speak to their quality.  I understand that Dead Island is one of theirs, and that it is a zombie-based game.  I don't do zombies, and so I hope that Dead Island keeps the zombies, and that Saint's Row sticks to what it does.  I didn't care for zombies in SR3, and I'd pretfer they not be in SR4.  I hope SR4 keeps and improves upon 3's gameplay, but that it takes its cues from SR2 for everything else.

GTA and Saints Row are the best, I like any of the open world games but those two are the best. It's good news but the games need to made and don't turn everything into a MMO or first person shooter. A few new things like GTA 5 and SR3 have is the way to do it.
