Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirms World War II-set co-op shooter not making it out this year, says the game has "evolved."
Gearbox Software's new World War II shooter Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 won't be released until at least 2013. Speaking to CVG, studio CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed the shooter will not make it out this year, as was originally planned. "I can't really talk about Furious 4 right now," he said.
Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 was announced during Ubisoft's 2011 Electronic Entertainment Expo media briefing and was expected to arrive by the end of last month. In May, rumor had it the game had been abandoned, based on trademark issues, but this later proved to not be the case.
Elsewhere in the interview, Pitchford explained that Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 has "evolved." He said gamers will be "surprised by what they see, and it's still evolving." He said one of the reasons Gearbox is keeping quiet on the project right now is because "further changes" need to be made as a result of the project's evolution.
Regarding when Pitchford and Gearbox plan to open up about Brothers in Arms: Furious 4, Pitchford explained that he "might come around" to talk about the game between the release of Borderlands 2 (September) and Aliens: Colonial Marines (February).
The first new installment in the Brothers in Arms franchise since 2008's well-received Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, Furious 4--as of June 2011--takes place during World War II and follows a band of four soldiers chasing Hitler.
@interrasteral7 They aren't super heroes though...
Yeah, but this one isn't even worthy of carrying the BIA name. This game is nothing like the others.
This game should have been cancelled not delayed. Sorry if I sound harsh but I am a fan of the real BIA series, not this other WW2 mock up that is labeled BIA probably just to make people interested in it. Continue with the original story for god sakes!!! Stay true to the story, this game can stand its own ground along side CoD and MoH believe me!
Unless it's evolved into a real BIA game about Matt Baker and set in the Battle of the Bulge, I'm still not interested.
I actually like the whole inglorious basterds thing they got going for. Probably because I liked the movie. They aren't done with Baker yet. So they will have another BiA game. So don't worry. It's just not this one.
Hey. lets not forget Borderlands evolved from a generic FPS into what it is today.
lets just hope when they say evovled they don't just mean they added zombies. Soooooooo effing sick and tired of zombies.

@SeaMan2ndClass Your spam is so lame. Just posting your opinion doesn't give you the right to spam. I already seen you in 3 articles doing this shit.
So glad they're evolving the game. It was starting to look like garbage. I hope they went for a more serious tone and less cartoony graphics, as all Brothers In Arms fans want and expect from a sequel to a very serious title. It is called "Brothers In Arms 4." It's not just a side story kind of game like Gears of War: Judgement, it's a full blown sequel, so they best make it look and feel like one.
Glad to see the typical CoD fan is still alive and well
Remember when the marketers of the Brothers in Arms series claimed that veterans supposedly loved the first two games in the series because of their adherence to realism and accuracy on the battlefield while paying tribute to the fallen? I sure hope Gearbox makes sure they never see Inglorious Borderlands 1945. XD
Hopefully it "evolves" beyond something that looks like a steamy pile of shit. As a fan of the original franchise, I was highly disappointed when I saw the trailer for this Inglorious Basterds knock off.
Perhaps, upon absorbing all the rage from fans of the true BIA franchise, they "evolved" this game into the garbage can where it belongs. I for one would love to see a true BIA game that builds on the old "Hells Highway" format. I was severely disappointed when i saw the trailer to this BIA Furious 4 garbage a few weeks ago.
this guy pitchfork, killed my favorite game, bia used to be my top played game over live, and then some stupid pitchfuck came around and screwd the multiplayer so bad, it turned into garbage. i hope a character model is changed for his face so i can blow his ugly mug to bits. they could redeem themselves with this one but now they are going natzie zombie style, man i hate pitchfuck, he also killed duke nukem.
oh thank god it wasn't cancelled. I really am looking forward to this game and have loved it since reading the preview in GI.
I don't think there's a sentient being on this planet that really thought Furious 4 was gonna be released in 2012.
Yeah, Gearbox is going to put outan unpopular 4 person cooperative shooter the same year they put out their ultra-popular 4 person cooperative shooter. The chances of that happening were less than Nintendo making super mario a first person shooter.
I wouldn't rule out that they've decided to ditch the entire Furious 4 theme, and make an entirely new Brothers in Arms game true to the franchise. Though, after playing through Hell's Highway, i'm not so sure they could end on a good not even if they tried.
Gearbox, please delay this game permanently because it looks terrible and always has. Either make this a true Brothers in Arms game or call it something else...
The game has "evolved" into s*it and it's still "evolving". How much s*it can we take from these people who keeps delaying games. Virtually, all good games are coming next year and even then it might "Evolve".
I would love to play another WW2 shooter.CoD:W@W is one of my personal favorite games, and my first WW2 shooter. I'll be keeping my eye on this.
how about delaying it for like um...forever? cuz this pile of crap should not of bared the brothers in arms name in the first place
@gamingfrendly yes, because you've played it, so you know it's a pile of crap >.>
@Fryboy101 I don't think many of us need to play it in the first place. I've got the trilogy, I can see how the games are historically accurate and realistic. This one however just looks disgraceful. Look at the trailer for this one, you'll see what I mean.
Never had any interest in this game. It just looks like an Inglorious Basterds game with a name change.
So how many shooters is Gearbox working on now? I can't see them allocating significant resources to this one until the one IP they own i.e. Borderlands has made its sequel money DLC and all
Take Brothers in Arms out of the title Gearbox and all of the hatred towards it would vanish. Were they on a cocaine overdose when they decided to stick it on there or what?
IMO they should've announced as a new IP. It would've received a better reception since it looks different from the stale shooters we see today and it's made by Gearbox, makers of some of the best shooters ever.
how about they just change the name but still run with it...heck if they do it right they could create a new ip doing this
I hate to say it. But this is one game I wish would be canceled..... and soon. Or better yet just change the name from the BIA franchise. As it does not belong nowhere near it.
"Gearbox Software's new World War II shooter Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 won't release until at least 2012."
That's still this year? Not much of a delay? Or am i missing something?
@digital_reaver For some reason, you are seeing an older version of the story, which had "2012" instead of "2013." Please try refreshing or reloading the page, and you will see the correct date.
