Developer confirms long-rumored name of first game with Activision; studio to officially show off game in five days.
The developer also said Destiny will be officially unveiled on February 17. Bungie recently launched a teaser website counting down to the proper reveal.
Destiny is Bungie's first project as part of a 10-year publishing deal with Call of Duty company Activision. Legal documents from May suggested that the game will be released for the Xbox 360 in 2013, with a 2014 release slated for the PlayStation 3.
The game is reportedly "quite like Halo."
You know the original idea of Halo was that it was playing on a planet, then they changed it to dyson sphere and then to ring world. Maybe all Bungie's doing is going back to the original idea.
damn next week is goner be super awesome, it kicks off with Bungie and Destiny then Sony and hopefully PS4, finaly GS will have some real news to report
Can't wait to try a new IP on my PS3! :D I'm glad its something from Bungie too because I missed the Halo games.
@biggest_loser you have a long wait ahead of you ps3, there might even be a ps4 by the time destiny comes to ps3
I wonder if Bungie can bring something interesting here, they will probably try to best their latest creation with Microsoft. And it makes me wonder if it does what it would be Microsoft answer?
@Ledah the only way i could see microsoft responding would be pushing 343 to beat destiny with the next halo. however, im assuming destiny will be multiplatform so halo wouldnt be able to recover anyway since microsoft will never allow its biggest exclusive to go multiplatform.
Master Chief has a long lost brother & he's alive being held prisoner on a new Arc by a 4th Prophet known as the Prophet Of Revenge lol :P
Bungie couldn't make a good game to save their life. Halo was generic and boring. Jar Jar Binx enemies and Playschool guns ARE NOT COOL!
A poor man's Quake 2.
@DrKill09 Hmmm...let me guess, you got bored underneath your bridge and decided to go out for a little (s)troll?
@DrKill09 LOL Quake.
@DrKill09 Hmm. I'm trying to think of any way that you might possibly be right. I just can't. You're wrong.
Lets just hope Activision don't demand a yearly release of "des-tiny". way to many games have fallen by activision for such nonsence
@bouff They're calling for every other year for full titles with at least one major expansion in between. But as they've been working on this for probably 5 years already, they probably had the foresight and the time to design the game such that it isn't as hard to create good sequels.
@pvspartan36 Actually they've been working on it for around a year and a half at the most.
@u1tradtSorry, editing my comment destroyed my link. ODST Easter egg: http://www.headlinegaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/destiny_awaits.jpg
@u1tradt@pvspartan36Nope. There was at least one easter egg about it in ODST: %s
Considering that that giant hovering orb is apparently a core story element to Destiny, it's assumed that at least some pre-production for Destiny was already underway during the year-long development of ODST, which was in 2008-2009. Thus, roughly 5 years. They've been getting ready for this since they split with Microsoft.
Since I've seen a lot of people asking questions about platforms and such, this is what the leaked contract said. (A contract which, keep in mind, was written several years ago.) Destiny 1, according to the old contract, is intended for the 360 this fall and the next Xbox whenever it is released. Microsoft has first rights to an exclusive period as part of their deal with Bungie that allowed them to become an independent studio. Thus, the PS3 will get Destiny 1 next year. Subsequent sequels will be on the next Xbox, PS4, and PC. The contract says there are feasibility tests to determine whether Playstation and PC are viable platforms, but I believe the point at which they were going to do those has since passed, and recent leaked marketing materials suggests a PS3 version. Also, because that contract is now several years old, I wouldn't be surprised to find it amended so that the PS4 will get Destiny 1 next year instead of PS3. It seems to me that the potential unveiling of the PS4 is unexpectedly early.
Would love to play it, but I refuse to buy a game from Activision ever again. Even if Activision doesn't screw it up, still don't want them to have my money.
@SolidSnakeUS42 lol damn bro... Quit being so butthurt over chump change... It's not like games cost that much for the amount of hrs they can provide. Maybe I just think this way cause I make a pretty good living...
@DrizztDark I can pay for games just fine. I just hate the company itself, so I won't give it my money. I like Bungie fine, just not Activision. Deal with it "bro".
@bdous That's quite the coincidence! The loaf of bread I bought today expires on the very same day! What are the odds?!
Hope you have a good birthday =D
@MAD_AI @Jonny-Two-Delta @bdous Bread shouldn't last that long. If it does it's got some serious preservatives added. But that's besides the point, a loaf only lasts two days in my house.
Who wants to be talking about games when you can discuss bread and expiry dates, amirite?
@bdous Happy early Birthday :)
