Publisher's social game brand to roll out a new iPhone and iPad title featuring the popular Peanuts comic strip characters; due in spring this year.
Earlier this year, Capcom announced the expansion of its casual gaming arm with the launch of Beeline, a new publishing brand focused on microtransaction-driven games for smartphones.
At the time, it was revealed that Beeline was working on eight titles planned for release by March 2012, but no further details were given. Now, it appears that Capcom is ready to divulge at least part of its plans, today announcing four of its upcoming Beeline titles.
The first title will be based on a licensing agreement deal between the Japanese publisher and Peanuts Worldwide LLC, the company that owns the characters and related intellectual property of the popular Charles M Schulz comic strip.
Capcom has announced that the partnership will lead to the global distribution of social games that use Snoopy and his friends, with the first game--tentatively titled "Snoopy"--planned for release in spring this year on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
The remaining three titles will also make their way onto the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch in the second quarter of the publisher's current fiscal year and are listed as: Smurfs' Grabber (August 2011), Dream Park (August 2011), and Monster Pet Shop (September 2011).
Next thing you know they're gonna re-release Marvel vs. Capcom 3 AGAIN with added Peanuts characters.
From Capcom: Original Peanuts game: $59.99....THIS JUST IN: NEW UNLOCKABLE HALLOWEEN COSTUMES FOR YOUR PEANUTS CHARACTERS; ONLY $4.99 EACH!! BUT WAIT!!!!!!!1!ONE!1! WE'VE GOT A BETTER DEAL!! NEW SUPER HYPER PEANUTS X!!!! WITH ADDED CHARACTERS SNOOPY, PIGPEN AND THE "WAH WAH WAH" TEACHER!!!! ONLY $55.99!! ...Seriously, Cr*pcom?
People make it sound like there's a handful of guys that work for capcom and that the same people who were working on Megaman would be working on Peanuts...
So this gets funded but you cancel Mega-man Legends 3? You cancel the game people have been asking for for years but keep the game around that no one, I assure you, no one is asking or will ever ask for? Yea so I think my business is done here. So long Capcom, things started off so well and looked so promising then this. No Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition DLC on the 3DS, out of no where you can Mega-man Universe, then you charge $10 for 2 DLC characters then offer up 12 for $40 in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 after saying you wouldn't do this, next you cancel Mega-man Legends 3 out of no where never mind that Super Street Fighter IV 3D has shipped 2.5 million units and is the best selling 3DS game to date, and finally you throw your support behind this nonsense? Yea nothing coming from you looks remotely appealing anymore.
So....they dont make Mega Man games anymore, because Capcom feels people will buy THIS more? *shakes head*
I should say, I don't blame them for doing this, as they can have multiple teams working on multiple things, however, its like seriously guys....why do this when so many people want other things, and yet you ignore those.
It's a clear push to a bigger wider market. The availability of social networking sites and the popular Apple peripherals has expanded it to even casual gamers. The Peanuts and Hello Kitty brand will cater to all ages both the young and old. It's funny that they keep commenting how they value their fans but kicks them out when they smell money somewhere else.
Great...we can get Charlie Brown but no Mega Man? This is right up there with the Final Fantasy musical game!
I know it sucks that Capcom tossed Mega Man Legends 3 out the window, but that doesn't seem to have anything to do with this branch of Capcom, Beeline. So while, believe me, I get as angry as you guys when I see that Capcom is making a Peanuts game instead of a Mega Man game, this Peanuts game would have come out either way. And hey, the Peanuts aren't so bad, and maybe it will even be a good casual game. And also, Capcom's recent failures are no reason to stop gaming. If you feel that one company going downhill ruins the entire game industry, then you are being overdramatic.
capcom sucks. we should all boycott until they start making good games again. year of the gamer my keester.
Seriously, Capcom?! You refuse to localize Ace Attorney Investigations 2 and cancel Mega Man Legends 3 for ?!
Well that's it folks. Every company we grew up to love has been overrun with halfwit jackasses that value quantity over quality. If this freak show of endless garbage continues then the beautiful art of gaming as we know it is dead.
yeah well uh if you want to see peanuts, you read a newspaper clipout. im guessing this is just a virtual reiteration.
Oh look, it's Capcom trying to make serious news again. Too bad they've fallen into the ocean of mediocrity.
Now this could actually work. Somehow Peanuts go with Apples, iDevices need some branding for social games. Capcom could name the game iSnoopy
When Capcom has gamers complaining about them making a game based on popular characters, you know they've pissed some people off.
