Crytek: Crysis 3 is 'maxing out' current gen

CEO Cevat Yerli claims "no game will ever look technically better than Crysis 3" on current gen; says Crysis 2 is technically superior to most games.
Crysis 3 will be one of the most technically competent titles ever released on current-generation consoles. That's according to studio CEO Cevat Yerli, who told Videogamer that the trilogy-capping sci-fi shooter is using almost every ounce of power from existing platforms.
"Crysis 3 is absolutely maxing out the consoles," Yerli said. "There is absolutely not even 1 percent left. No game will ever look technically better than Crysis 3 on these consoles, flat out. Most games are not even anywhere near Crysis 2 technically. I'm not talking about art style--art is subjective--but the pure fact of what we have been cramming in with Crysis 2 on Xbox [360] and PlayStation [3], I've yet to see a game do that still today."
Yerli further claimed that the Halo or Gears of War franchises do not even come close to what Crytek has been able to achieve with Crysis 3.
"Any day I will take a battle against Gears and Halo, whatever, the amount of data we put in and the detail level is far superior," Yerli said. "With Crysis 3, we're pushing that to another level, but the PC is just two levels beyond."
Crysis 3--due February 19--is a first-person shooter set in 2047 New York that casts players as Prophet, a supersoldier seeking vengeance. For more, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

6 Like Crysis 2 took everything awesome about Crysis and threw it out the window and just focused on the Call of Duty crowd. From the linear shallow single player to the embarrassing attempt at emulating CoD multiplayer.
Crysis 2 was an awkward mess and I was really disappointed at the direction they took. They have shamed themselves by selling out their brand of gameplay for a pathetic limp attempt at capturing the CoD mass market and now I don't consider Crytek as a top game developer anymore. Just another pretender willing to sell their soul to get a piece of the big pie.

"Crysis 2 is technically superior to most games."? LOL technically crysis is just an un-optimized average fps game.. It may appeal visually, but there are tons of games out there which are much more visually appealing for different gamers.
Although Crysis 2 is probably the best looking game on 360 ( I'd Say behind Halo 4 and Bf3) It wasn't the most fun to play and although i loved the campaign to that game the multiplayer was unbalanced and the ability to go invisible was just so frustrating

@lowerclassbrat7 that is soo true by Crytek making claims like this it better look at least just as good as BF3 single player on PS3 or I would just take it back to Gamestop for that reason alone because it should look better then the XBox 360 hands down
Hahahahahaha, several years ago he can boast the hell they like, now they say nothing can compete Crysis 2, when a iOs games like Infinity blade was cramped onto a extremely small Ipone 4s and its visual really outpace what Crysis 2 did. I still play Infinity Blade till this day, long after Crysis 2 was put to rest, cause gameplay and visual is vastly superior to Crytek's 2nd Crysis.
This is 2012, any developer can make a monstrous visual games, but the next year I anticipated are Total War II: Rome & Company of Heroes 2, not because of their immense power creating more visual presentation, not because of their frog texture to perfection, its because their games are presented in the best way possible with the most efficient resources possible, and most importantly, they always have a good reputation in their gameplay.
Crysis was good cause you can do whenever the hell you want to approach a base and kill or sneak off North Korean grunts. In Crysis 2 you have an alley way, with a door, when you stealth your way to the door, its locked or your objectives is not updated cause you need to kill all the Private soldiers or bipedal aliens....... I can't get anywhere without killing lots and lots of grunts, while the first game you can kill a few without even need to shoot life ammunition, cloak, grap one guy, toss it to his death, cloak and instantly hide in the bushes decloak, gleefully watching your enemies scream and yell in panic, shoot randomly while standing a few feet away from you, those are pure goodness they removed for the sake of shooting. Enemies detect you from miles away and cloak won't even matter with aliens, their eyes are infrared so forget about it. Even soldiers can see you hiding behind a wall........
So it looks like a 2005 era PC game? LOL give me a break EA/Crytek. Nice viral marketing stunt for a run-of-the-mill FPS.
Besides, I can think of 2 games off the top of my head that already look better than it on PS3 I bet: Final Fantasy 13 (jaw dropping beauty in places) and Metal Gear.

When did linear games become bad all of a sudden? I didn't realize that was such a bad thing considering some of the greatest games of all time are linear, hell open world is a relatively new idea for the industry, it only got REALLY popular this generation.
1 Like @vault-boy I don't think people have a problem with linearity itself, I mean all games are linear to a point.
However, due to the increased costs of games development, lots of the wonderful things in games have been marginalized.
Things that make a game linear:
1. Poor AI (Pretty much a huge problem overall in gaming, The Civilization series might be the best example of good AI and even it has to be tweaked a lot.)
2. Poor "me too" game design/mechanics without thought to challenge or variety; give the player too much power. Player doesn't have to vary tactics to win. (i.e. most FPS games).
3. Poor musical scores (why are the best game soundtracks from the 16-bit and 32/64 bit era?)
4. Poor game world that is either too constrictive (Final Fantasy 13) or too open (Fallout New Vegas) and lack variety/imagination (Elder Scrolls Skyrim).
5. Poor writing (Elder Scrolls Skyrim, Guild Wars 2, ect.)
These things can kill immersion and are often overlooked by big publishers, especially Western ones.

Graphics do not make a game. Crysis 2 took an amazing franchise and dumbed it down with a linear environment and, worst of all, inconsistent AI. AI enemies in Crysis were brutal; I stopped playing Crysis 2 about 2/3rds through after a few hundred kills in which I walked up to an enemy who had charged right past me, stuck to a wall, and then stood there running in place just waiting for me to shoot or melee from behind. So, Yerli, I've played games on console that may not have looked as pretty, but they offered up a real challenge. To claim Crysis 2 representes sort of high water mark for technical achievement in console gaming is pure sales pitch bullshit.
@mervynssucks I like Crysis because of the many approach a player can move to their objectives I can stealth my way through and kill a few guys or play Predator style killing with gleeful result, while Crysis 2 you have to kill all the way through in order to get one bloody lift to be open.

3 Like And this is why the first Crysis was a tech demo. Crysis 2 was actually good, but people hated it for some reason. I guess they preferred the illusion of choice in the first Crysis.
@VALikimlav Crysis 2 is like when your favorite Indie band sells out, I think that's why people hate it. It became something it's not. It's a niche shooter trying to bring in AAA dollars. Not going to happen.

I agree since stealth is next to impossible in Crysis1 while I beat the highest diffculty of Crysis 2 by stealth.
@X-Robert lol, I complete majority in Elite with stealth approach cause my and hiding among the vegetation, and North Koreans are AI that move along and you can wait until they move off, Crysis 2..... you enemy stays the same area the whole time, they won't bother leaving cause they know you are there, they just wait for you to grow impatient and start shooting. Its impossible to complete the highest difficulty on the last stage with cloack, I have to shoot my way through cause cloak approach seemingly useless as if the aliens can see me like a brightly lit Christmas tree........

Enemies in Crysis 1 actually challenged you on Delta difficulty and the BEST way to beat it was strategic use of the cloak. Smart AI and choices were lies in Crysis 2. You can thank the consoles ridiculously long lifecycle for the dumbing down of this franchise. We should've evolved past this point by now.
@spikepigeo @X-Robert I don't think the game was challenging for the right reasons. The AI actually tripped over themselves in the first one and the aliens were extremely boring. Tbh, I don't notice much of a difference between the first and the second in terms of AI. Crytek needs to call up Bungie or Valve for help in that department.
Don't focus too much on the graphics now, Graphics is good and all but sometimes developers forget about the gameplay mechanics.

1 Like Sorry but Crysis 3 has along ways to go to catch up to Halo 4 graphics.Which at the moment is the game to beat.
Actually at 1080p the textures aren't that great on Halo 4 but it is still a great looking 360 game. it is a shame the textures couldn't be a higher res but the frame rate is quite good and it wouldn't be much fun if it looked better and played worse.

I can only imagine how amazing Crysis 3 looks. (remember crysis 1 was on pc only, the xbox 360 wouldn't even be able to run the option menu in crysis 1)
look at what it did to most pcs in 2007 when it came out though:)

That is subject to opinion. I liked Crysis 2 but, overall felt that Crysis 1 was better as far as open world and graphics. If you think that all Crysis did was stick some trees and a few shacks then I feel sorry for you. Crysis 1 gave you options. It's called free will to play the way you want to play with the nano suit. As far as the article is concerned point was they mentioned PC's and it is part of the article so your argument with that is flawed.

Consoles have been lingering for many years. Just even look at Crysis (on cry engine1), its totally perfect and so realistic, but this will be a whole new level of graphics.

it is a same the console version of crysis isn't the same game though. There are parts missing and it has been dumbed down with the same shield system as Crysis 2 not the original.
@smackdowner360 @abctr I disagree. Both Crysis 1 and 2 were excellent in their own way. Crysis 1 gave you a huge open world and a variety of ways to approach your objective. Stealth worked really well and made you feel really like a special ops soldier, and made sure you weren't too powerful. But the story was very straightforward and plain.
Crysis 2 had an entertaining action-packed campaign. I enjoyed the story in Crysis 2 and had lots of fun with it, too. It made you feel like a powerful super-soldier and that you were a last hope against an alien invasion. Music is also miles better than the first game. But stealth was too easy and the levels were ridiculously small compared to Crysis 1 and the graphics are really close to the first Crysis with few improvements here and there.
I can only feel that the two games were very different from each other. They succeeded and failed in the opposite things.

You are pure hater....... sorry this sort of argument is weak at based, no offense, but you clearly try to compare a 2007 game to a 2012 game, Halo 4 is anything but impressive, but its clear you are on one side........ The multiplayer is practically a direct rip from CoD. it is not a bad game, but it does not come anywhere near the first one. Graphically, Halo 4 does not even come close to the first Crysis. Neither does Gears of War, and that should not even be a point of contention because Gears of War is a completely different game, and honestly does not even belong in this discussion.
