Publisher says it regrets including bikini-clad statue with Zombie Bait premium bundle for Europe and Australia.
Deep Silver has commented on the Dead Island Riptide Zombie Bait Edition that drew much criticism upon its announcement this morning. A statement from the company posted to Twitter this afternoon apologized for any offense caused by the premium bundle, the centerpiece of which was a statue of a decapitated bikini-clad female torso.
"We sincerely regret this choice," the company said. "We are collecting feedback continuously from the Dead Island community, as well as the international gaming community at large, for ongoing internal meetings with Deep Silver's entire international team today. For now, we want to reiterate to the community, fans and industry how deeply sorry we are, and that we are committed to making sure this will never happen again."
This is a very different statement than the one Deep Silver sales and marketing director Paul Nicholls gave in the product's announcement this morning. At the time, he said not only was the statue fitting, but it was "utterly Dead Island" and one that would "make a striking conversation piece on any discerning zombie gamer's mantel."
It is not clear if Deep Silver still plans to release the Zombie Bait version of Dead Island Riptide or if the package may be altered in some way.
thie shall not kill , however I dont recall reading anything in there about maiming dismemberment ( joke ppl breath ). we live in a world that cant go a year with out a war or some form of mass killing. you cant find a TV show -the dis channel that dont have some form of sex, blood, death or hell all 3 in that order ( one Hopes ) and yet people still fell the need to speak out about a fake bust of a zombie. wow you would think that we could find something more say pressing say oo war, hunger, homeless running out of TP, gum under desks real troubles an stuff, anyone ? Welcome to earth where we love everything as long as it helps us to help them, no nothing and the ones that think they do know even less.. meep meep
great, now because soccer moms who dont even play games whined, im now left out of this item any trure, hardcore zombie fan like myself would buy in a heartbeat.
EFF those people.
You know when I first saw this, I thought it was something to toss to zombies to lure them away from you. But then I realised, its for real life. Maybe they are expecting or planning a zombie outbreak? LOL!
Wow, Deep Silver did not think this one through all the way. Seriously, did a serial killer think of this?
@Rayrota No, try someone or a group of people within Deep Silver that had a love for zombie related things did. I really don't know why this is a shock to people. Hell, the Collector's Edition Blu-ray of The Walking Dead Season 2 is a zombie bust with a screwdriver going through the eye, and Season 3 is a GROUP of severed zombie heads. This is nothing.
ive yet to read why they are apologizing and other people as to why they are offended besides saying... theyre offended.
I don't get why anyone would get that...
That thing's disgusting...
Some people are just fucking weird man...
People are making a really big deal out of this for no reason. Its just a bust, if you don't like it don't get it. Its not like they freaking killed somebody and used their body
people are so stupid how is this offensive!!?????? ok lets stop making zombie movies and toys hell lets just cancel The Walking Dead and Die Hard and harry Potter or Star Wars because there is violence and fighting..
I wasn't offended Deep S. I just found this as bad taste and get the standard version. Oh well, let the bad press do some good.
@santinegrete I found out that collecting rubbish collectors editions that cost more than original is a total waste of fkn time. What am I gonna do with them? Play with them? Sorry but im are busy looking at the computer screen and playing games. It will just clutter my already messy room.
And my fkn interior decorator self would never use that crap. Why waste money? Keep collectors stuff as software and extra features and things.
Why are they apologizing to the "Dead Island community and the wider gaming community", it isn't those communities that will complain, it's the people that want to ban violent games but have never played them that have made this an issue!
How the hell can anyone who has played any zombie game get offended by this?? Is the sole object of most zombie games to kill in the most imaginative way possible ? when the walking dead meet a particular nasty end , do we as game players say " OMG thats so repulsive, Im never playing this game ever again" OR do we say something along the lines of "OMG that was awesome lets see if i can out-do that death with the next one"
Its like gun users not liking the noise guns make...
... I could see where people would be offended but it doesn't seem out of place when you consider what their first ever trailer was. It's supposed to be about an island paradise that's been completely defiled. I guess I could see the appeal if you were a fan... Certainly not something I want on my mantel.
Parents: "Hey, we don't want to be forced to buy this M-Rated game that my child can't get without my permission! It has this clearly sexual figure that blatantly represents the game I plan on buying for my underage child and I don't want him seeing this kind of thing!" Who's offended by this? Certainly not people who understand what they were going for.
This statue would have been a great conversation piece. Zombie Bait, i like it been that in most horror movies, the first to die in the group is the ditsy chick probably in a bikini. a bit on the offensive side, but they kinda nailed it for the genre fans.
The only issue here with this torso is that it's tacky as hell and does not in any way shape or form urges people to buy limited addition of their game. If Deep Silver is gonna apologize, they should apologize about how stupid and tacky this idea was, and if any offense was done, it should be because of the fact that this is a REALLY dumb idea to promote their products.
Two perfectly rounded... bras, wasted. I abhor grotesquery, but I do think it's more tasteful than a chainsaw with guts still attached. If it were a full zombie statue with that kind of figure and attire, I may even be interested. I hope they don't take too much heat because of this.
I don't see the issue. It's a zombie game. The game came with a model of a dead persons torso. >>It's a zombie game.<< Seriously..this world is becoming way too p@#$%. I'm so serious. It's sickening.
"We deeply apologize for trying to release such an ugly piece of 'premium bundle' incentive trash ever seen in a video game release. We have no idea why a mutilated torso seemed like a good idea, as well as how ugly and cheap-looking it would turn out. We were about to release it anyway, because let's face it, as long as it sells we don't care what it is. The problem began when our prospective customers somehow got off their tractors and realized we were peddling a complete joke as 'premium content' and now must perform some hasty image control before the word of this terrible offering spreads throughout all our prospective consumer base. Please stop talking about it. Thank you."
Marketing 101 :
1. you got something to sell
2. but the internets is already full of the same ole cr4p
3. noone 's going to notice cos of so much of the same ole cr4p
4. you do one better --- advertise a statue of say --- your hero burning down an orphanage
5. post it online
6. sit back and wait for the internets to go up in flames
7. apologise for #4
8. mission accomplished.
Are they apologizing because it's lame? Because as far as I can tell that's what's really wrong with it.
What exactly are they sorry for? They can't even say themselves, so they just keep saying sorry instead of providing any explanation as to the offense.
I wasnt offended or grossed out in any way. I thought it was stupid. But i dont feel that Deep Silver has to say sorry to any1. It was a way to get the game noticed. It succeded. Will i buy the statue?? No. I dont need it nor want it. What is that statue gonna do for me but sit somewhere & collect dust? How is paying extra for that statue gonna impact my experience on playing the game??? None @ all. I'm going to enjoy the hell out of this game when it comes out without having a lame statue to look @. But to each their own.
So this is sexist, huh? Funny... why weren't we lighting torches over Purna's "Gender Wars" ability? (Overlooking, of course, the fiasco with the programming name.) Is that not inherently sexist? Where were you then, moral crusaders?
It's wonderful to live in an age where everyone gets their panties in a giant wad over some of the dumbest shit on the planet. Crybabies all over the place nowadays. People can't say, do, utter, move or even motion in a manner without offending someone. People need to grow a pair or lock themselves inside their homes and leave the world to the big boys and girls.
@R34Vegeta and the real punchline is that someone, somewhere, was deeply offended by your comment. :p
But you're right, and it's sad devs have to constantly tippy-toe or else upset x-organization and have them breathing down their necks or trying to humiliate them and make a public example of them.
This is obviously sexist. Come on, it focuses on the breast area of the natural human-female body. It is a sexualized corpse of a woman. It is a disgusting and misogynistic object that only morons would consider 'art.'
Also, igore my blatant misuse of the words "sexist" and "misogynistic." I merely lack the mental capacity to comprehend words, like many here seem to...
@The__Krakenin the words of the marketing director, not only was the statue fitting, but it was "utterly Dead Island" and one that would "make a striking conversation piece on any discerning zombie gamer's mantel." to tell you the truth it would have been way cooler if it was a torso with a schlong.
Don't worry, I do plan on ignoring your blatant misuese of those words.
@The__Kraken I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'd like to see you saying the same if it was a male torso lol
