Blizzard exec Rob Pardo says console version of dungeon crawler "looking pretty cool," but still not an official project at the company.
A console version of Diablo III is "up and running" at Blizzard Entertainment, but the game is still not an official project at the company. This is according to Blizzard executive Rob Pardo, who told Polygon the fate of a console version of the dungeon crawler has still not been decided.
"We're still kind of exploring it," Pardo said. "We've got builds up and running on it. We're hoping to get it far enough along where we can make it an official project, but we're not quite ready to release stuff about it, but it's looking pretty cool."
Blizzard has been teasing a console version of Diablo III for more than two years now, though the project remains largely a mystery. It has never been said which consoles exactly Blizzard is working with.
Diablo III on the PC and Mac launched in May and has since sold 10 million copies, including 3.5 million during its first 24 hours. For more on Diablo III, check out GameSpot's review.

it'll be a shame for pc, an end of an era but the way they chose to make the game internet based was the stupidest thing i have ever seen. to this day i am not able to play it due to lag, i bought it the day it came out and ended up on the second act before it got even worse. i still have not finished it and hope that one day in the future i can. If they still have servers for it up and running and havent moved on.
How bout they fix the PC version first, then worry about consoles, ugh...start by firing Jay Wilson

welll i think if this is the reason why no pvp on diablo 3 im ok with it i would love to play D3 on my ps3.

1 Like Torchlight was EXCELLENT on console... and that's coming from a former PC player of D1 & D2. ....thus Torchlight 2 will likewise be excellent on console.

For anyone ranting/raging about "the old Blizzard never sold out to consoles", remember that the first Diablo was on Playstation. That game even had French, German and Swedish translated and dubbed versions, lol. I wonder how they're gonna do the whole Auction House, always-online thing there. Consoles have never had to put up with a lot of always-online requirements as far as I know.

@realiamnot @orth3rion I currently run any game at a $700 PC (except display which you oviously need for a console too) ... this is NOT a shit load of money. And I'm from a country where the medium salary is ~$170. Of course I make more than that, but the point is that the argument with the price is not valid. I was just sayng that I see no pourpose for D3 to be on console.

@orth3rion Ah right, i misunderstood what you meant by your first comment. The price for a good PC isn't too much but when you've got bills to pay, its hard to save up the extra cash lol.
2 Like I know this game is universally hated, but I also realize the PC community are such snobs that anything but perfection was a total failure especially with this game. So I take it with a huge grain of salt and will definitely give this a go if it comes to our beloved consoles.

There are plenty of PC games far from "perfection" that PC gamers love. D3 is hated for very good reasons. Hopefully you won't have to spend $60 to find that out yourself.
I realize that PCers don't only like games they consider perfect, well there is of course no such thing as perfect. And not all of you guys are the same. But at least comparing my standards and a lot of the PC community, mine seem to be lower so maybe I'll be able to just enjoy it without expecting too much. I have also never played either of the first two. Will that make it more enjoyable for me?
@malec_1Yeah, if I am pretty much forced to buy in game material, then I'll pass. I won't support any BS like that. If there is a way to not do it, then I may try it. It's too bad that one of the most highly anticipated games of all time isn't even close to what you guys wanted.
@tightwad34 If you have zero expectations it could be enjoyable for you. One of the biggest turn offs though, is that once you advance far enough into the difficulties, buying from the Real Money Auction House is required(good gear drops are incredibly rare, they random stat their uniques making tons of them useless for any class), giving it a Pay-2-Win feel.
Not sure if the lag is acceptable for console players. The game stutter and lag a second or two everytime you move your map or have to load a big pack of monsters. Real time loading of game data big fail.

1 Like Direct control works fine for games like this, I can see D3 doing well on consoles. After all Torchlight made a decent transition to 360.

Binding them to the accounts where it's installed is much more "efficient" when it comes to making them tons of money.
To rule out lawsuits and refund requests they'll probably write something like "requires internet connetcion" in dark grey, tiny 5pt font somewhere at the bottom inbetween the disclaimer text which nobody ever reads and even less understands.
I believe that it has been up and running. Feels very consolized, whether you want to deny it or not. Less of a PC-exclusive game, then it was made out to be. This really explains why Diablo 3 lacked the quality of Diablo 1 and 2.
I think it's addictive to most Diablo 3 players, than it is fun. The fact that Diablo 3 had a completely different team working on it explains why it doesn't have the same essence of what a Diablo game should be like.
D3 took a lot of risks and got bashed by nostalgic fans, that apparently have no reason at all to say why they dislike it, just because "it sucks".
It is, for me, a incredibly fun game, that does not aspire to be a mere D2 copycat with 3D graphics.
But by now everyone knows that the D2 copycat completely made by the numbes is Torchlight 2, so have fun with that one, nostalgics.
