Disney working on 'Toy Box' console game
House of Mouse making console game with "extensive mobile and online" components where Pixar and Disney characters interact with each other.
Disney appears to be pouring its efforts back into console gaming. A new console game with "extensive mobile and online applications" is in development at the company, Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants told The New York Times.
This project is currently codenamed "Toy Box." Its gameplay involves various Disney and Pixar characters interacting with each other. No further details were shared.
Disney Interactive has distanced itself from console gaming in favor of the social place recently. Since 2010, the company canceled its Pirates of the Caribbean RPG, and closed Propaganda Games and Black Rock Studios. During that time, the company acquired social game maker Playdom for $563 million.
Disney's new Toy Box game is not the only marquee console game the studio is at work on. Epic Mickey: The Power of Two is due out next month for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii, and Wii U.
