Doom 4 'indefinitely postponed'?

Make Doom 4 like Doom 3 and will be ok ? for multiple demons spawning we have thousands of games like this, make it scary, dark and with the best all dynamic shadows and lightning, that would be great, also let the users make mods like in Doom 3, in the end, Doom 3 was the most commercial success from Id Soft. so follow that and all will be fine again ! :D

Doom 3 gameplay was 90% of 2 imps teleporting ahead of you. Just dont do that again and it will be all ok. ID have tendencies to go boring so keep an eye for that

I hope they make doom 4 with the rage graphics, sound, animation and all that because i liked how rage looked.

Technically, Rage was awesome. sound, graphics, animation, and control were all top notch.

it just had NO story whatsoever. and the pacing sucked. all the little mundane tasks of bringing ammo here, or medical supplies there, or having to go race to win a car to do any of those. it was all just so boring

@inaka_rob disagreed because I have played many games with a variety of themes and out of all of them, I have come to the conclusion that theme has NOTHING to do with gameplay. Theme is just smokes and mirrors for the most part. Now I love good stories and atmosphere in video games, but I see them as a bonus, not a deciding factor in if the game is good or bad.

I am saying a theme is EQUALLY as imporant. do I really need to make some chilished anaogly? like building blocks. if you take one away the whoel building bridge colapses. Can you build a bridge with one building block? no! so you can just have a good game becuase of the theme. But if you take the theme away then whole bridge falls. In some games the theme is a bigger block, in a game like Dues Ex. so you are saying theme is pointless. if we took ww2 out of COD game and made them hot dog venders. The game would be 100% the same and 100% as fun. without the theme most games would fall apart.

@inaka_rob nice paragraph, but you make no damn sense. I said theme is irrelevant to how good a game is. If a game has a great theme, but crap gameplay, it would not be a good game. Now switch that around and the game would be great.

Rage was static and bad game but Doom IV will be great, all dynamic and amazing as it was Doom 3 but better, of course, just we should keep patient again !

Doom, and iD in general, have passed their prime. The corridor games are old school and not very fun anymore. All of iD's enemies all look very similar to each other, from Doom, to Quake, to Rage. iD needs to try a completely different genre, like 3rd person action/adventure (like Uncharted) because their fps games have gotten stale at Doom 3.

If the Rage team gets put in charge of Doom 4, then no buys. Rage was overrated and over-hyped to hell. Its barely a decent game.

Id kinda half a$$ed Rage a little. It's an open world "RPG" without that much open world or RPG to it. It would have been better as a corridor type shooter instead of this OWRPG kinda thing they made. The game was pretty good but not Id good though.

I was really anticipating Rage since when they first announced it like 4 years ago. I enjoyed it a lot but it didn't really meet my expectations. I really really really hope Bethesda makes the next Fallout on the id tech 5 engine though. With bethesda's RPG and story telling talents made with the id tech 5 engine, overlooking all the bugs, it would probably be the most perfect game ever made.

Doom 4 is the Doom universe and will sell well regardless just cause its Doom. Rage (which I haven't played yet) was a whole new property, no wonder it didn't do so well. Just cause its developed by id doesn't mean it's a platinum hit. id should stick with what works. Doom and Quake. Although, Quake 4 and Quake Wars sucked respectively. id needs to go back to its roots and build from that, with all we know and love from modern games and then some.

The impression I get about rage on consoles is a decent percentage of gamers loyal to CoD don't like the game. CoD still sells and sells 360s. But then theirs the unpolished pc launch of the game.

id should never have sold out...they should just alternate Doom and Quake releases until Carmak is in an assisted living home.

Rage got mixed reviews cause everyone is busy worshipping CoD.

@JOKER677 same, I was excited and it is a really solid shooter but in the end after beating it. It was very shallow and I can't drag myself for a second playthrough : /

I'm enjoying Rage for the most part, haven't finished it but i am enjoying it for what it is. It's certainly not amazing but there's a lot worse out there that's for sure. Glad to hear Doom 4 isn't... Doomed. I'm sorry.

I was disappointed with how "shallow" the game felt. It's the best looking game out but the gameplay just wasn't as addicting as I thought it would be.

It makes sense to a point. id is one of those companies like Valve that takes forever to release a single game, but when they do the hope is it's a defining title for it's time. But when a company doesn't deliver that show stopping profit point, a company is going to look a the concept of paying a whole bunch of people good money for years with no profit just so they can release a so-so title. RAGE was a nice idea but id used to be like Epic, the newest games are supposed to have the newest graphics possible. If you take away ids graphics edge (back when they had it), you realize they don't really make amazing shooters. They just make really really pretty medicore shooters. So when Rage showed up with below awe-inspiring graphics and gameplay that wanted to be Fallout or Borderland but failed to be even 10% as in depth. Well it fell short of anyones standards, be it gameplay or graphics.

Mixed reviews? So it wasn't universally acclaimed, it still received mostly positive scores. It actually exceeded my average expectations, as I personally thought it was extremely fun to play. And once I tweaked the visuals with some config changes (there was even rumors of an HD texture pack and further updates in the future), it was impressive to look at as well, even though I still couldn't shake the feeling that it was a console-to-PC port.

You sound like an elitist know-it-all. Of course the THEME matters. everything in a game matters!!! you sound like someone who doesn't know anything. Just look at Dues Ex 3. The theme was just as important as any character or game play element. all aspects of a game are important. The sum of its parts!!! "I swear you sound like you are new to gaming." you sound like you are new to.... anything. bassicly you are telling me if the we took the WW2 theme and appliead to EVERY game, they would still be good games. If we took super mario, metroid, and zelda and made their charcters, and world look like WW2 theme but left the gameplay intact then they would still EXACTLY as good as they are now. If we took DOOM and RAGE and QUAKE and STREET FIGHTER and MEGA MAN and RESIDENT evil and made them all WW2 themed games they would all still be 100% as fun and enjoyable. the theme is so important. the theme is what drives a game. A theme can be overplayed and overused. happens all the time.

Well what the pickles did management expect they made another post apocalyptic shooter game that resembled half the games of last year... That's what everyone wanted right? I mean brink was also a huge success... But doom is doom the name alone sells. meh id simply got bit by the follow the leader mentality

@dRuGGeRnaUt & @Nzilla You don't have to worry about that. Though it was effective in Doom 3, enough people did complain and id heard them. Switching between the flashlight and gun will not appear in Doom 4. I'd source it if I could find it but don't feel like scouring the net. I read interviews with id (possibly Carmack himself) a couple years back, around the time Doom 4 was first announced and the flashlight business was a primary concern. It's all out there if you do a search.

I haven't played neither Doom 3 nor Rage so I'm not sure which you're talking about, it sounds interesting though (not necessarily the same as 'fun') and I'd like to see it on YouTube or something..

RAGE was probably the biggest gaming letdown of the year for me, even when I got past all the graphical issues, the game was so bland and tedious.

I think most people missed the real point of Rage; the id Tech 5 engine. I couldn't believe how awesome it was to turn and turn my head in the game without any drop in the frame rate. They really kicked ass with this engine's debut and I can't wait to see more Tech 5! I think there has to be a Doom 4!

Rage was disappointing. I mean I already played Fallout 3 and Borderlands and Rage felt like a complete rip off of those two games. The complete lack of a story and lousy ending didn't help either.

Poor graphical performance and unacceptably low res textures on the PC aside, I had a blast with Rage. I had a blast with it, right up until I got about 30% into the game, which actually turned out to be the end of the game. If it was any ****ing shorter it wouldn't count as a small adventure mod in Oblivion.

If they make doom 4 like doom 2, instead of doom 3, theyll be fine. How can you not be able to turn that kind of primitive, yet thrilling ambiance found in earlier doom games, into the newer ones? I can play doom 2 over and over, I played through doom 3 once and that was enough. And for anyone who is old enough to have read through the doom 2 ins. manual. 'nuff said.

ALL i ask for in doom 4 id is: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't make me choose between being able to see and being able to shoot. - SEERIOUSLY - That was not funny. What if you bought a car that only had the options of using the acelerator or the headlights, but not both at the same time. - I guess they could always release a "Duct Tape MOD DLC" for 800 points on xbox live 'enabling' the ability to attach the flashlight to your gun. XD

i loved rage, though if they expect me to buy another doom game it better have some damn ceiling lights or a flashlight on my gun.

id, don't listen to what the reviewers are saying, a game is only as good as it sells. Never EVER forget that!/end cynical rant. I liked Doom 3 a lot, but it got tedious after a while searching for PDA:s and the level design wasn't always that good. I also missed not having secondary fire on the weapons. The atmosphere, voice acting and graphics are great though, I think I'll go check out some mods for it.

I thought RAGE was awesome. It was just over-hyped, and took too long to make.

@beefalo - agreed, Rage looked amazing and was a real advancement in engine tech, but the game... oew... average average average. They had the cheek to give you a BFG at the end, but not a boss to fire it at, lame. Quake2 is still the benchmark.

Haven't picked Rage up yet but I definitely will be. But from what I gather they visuals are great they just need to step up the story telling.

id need to bring in some good writers, its the only part of their products that suck. considering the time and effort that went into rage, you would think they would have hired on some writing talent to match that of the art and sound departments.

rage sucked...ID software hasn't made a decent game since quake 2....time to turn them into an engine/middleware company only

I would like to note that DOOM 3 got the same score as Rage (on consoles) this rumor is as valid as me saying, ign bought gamespot! there! I just said a pointless and baseless rumor! Where is the gamespot article on my rumor???

good game, not great, but if you LIKE id, its GOOD . :)
