Family-friendly control scheme with stylized visuals will define Madden NFL, NCAA Football, Tiger Woods, NBA Live, and FIFA on Nintendo's console.
In a handful of Electronic Arts' sports titles for the Wii last year, the publisher included an exclusive "family play" mode, wherein the games' control schemes were simplified to accommodate the platform's nontraditional gaming crowd. For this year's lineup, EA is bringing this family-friendly mode to the fore in a number of its most popular sports titles, as the publisher has announced Madden NFL, NCAA Football, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, NBA Live, and FIFA Soccer will fall under the newly established All-Play label.
According to EA, All-Play sports titles have been designed to more evenly balance player skill levels, and will offer both traditional control schemes for experienced gamers as well as pick-up-and-play options for novice players. The games will offer distinct, stylized visuals, as well as a variety of modes that won't be found in other versions of the games.
New to the Wii this year, NCAA Football 09 features more than 200 schools and is due out July 15. New to Madden NFL on the Wii this year will be the Call Your Shots feature, where players use the Wii Remote to define a receiver's route on the fly. The game will also include a 5-on-5 big-head mode. It will launch alongside other console counterparts on August 12.
As for games where no pigs are harmed, Tiger Woods PGA Tour returns with true-to-life motion-controlled swings, as well as an online play mode for up to four, and is due August 26. NBA Live is also being designed to highlight the Wii's control scheme, and EA promises more responsive controls over last year's critically lambasted hoops sim when it launches October 7. Lastly, this year's FIFA Soccer features Mii integration as well as a variety of "Footii Party Games." FIFA's annual installment takes to the pitch October 14.
Oh my god... this is like the Obama plan for gaming. We're going to "even out" skill level? What is the point of this crap? Sigh... I just wish Wii would die.
So basically they are taking the biggest names in sports franchise history and making them gimped down watered down, cartoony graphics versions? And this will be the standard bearer on Wii from now on? Thanks but no thanks EA. Great way to kill a market for sports games on the wii. Why dont you just fess up and admit that the wii just cant cut the mustard graphically and you have to settle for cartoony kiddie graphics.
I'll probably get negative comments on this, but isn't this what everyone asked for, NOT the same game released every year... I would agree with you though, this change isn't for the better. And the pic they had on the news page for this... if that is the graphics that are going to be in the game, I'm completely done with them. Sorry, graphics do matter if they are going to be horrible.
@Kavadias I'm going to ignore the GTA comment because saying I'm stupid for not liking a game that you do is kinda to dumb to argue about. And you are completely right, I can't base my opinion off of 4 games. I mean, I'm sure I've only played those four and not all the games that my brother, my roommate, and at least 3 of my other friends have for their Wii's. Nope, a person can definitely only play games that they personally own.
i understand that the wii has the capability of bringing in people who don't typically play video games, but does that mean that have to alienate those that have been playing all these years, and pretty much made the industry the money making goliath that it is today? sure, they announce that Tiger Woods will have online features, but just you wait... and wait... and wait...
The Epic Fail of what EA Sports is, is the real reason EA wants to buy Take Two. I get it now... They just want to lay off their own employees for doing such a horrid job... They need to realize their management is the reasons EA Sports turned into what it is in the first place though....
You know sports games on the Wii have a lot of potential, but because it seems only EA is releasing sports games for the Wii, non live up to the potential. EA either needs to step it up, or Take 2 needs to come in with 2K sports Hockey, Basketball and Baseball for the Wii and showing EA how to use the Wiimote for sports games.
Its not that NCAA is awful. Its really not, I do prefer it over madden most of the time. I just dislike EA's view to upgrading sports games from year to year with a roster update and 1 added feature. I tend to buy every 3 years now. If I get 09' I won't have to purchase one of their sports games for the remainder of this generations life cycle.
accessibility for all "gamers" is fine. but offering awful products (like NCAA is shaping up to be) and alienating longtime fans of a series is inexcusable. shame on you, EA.
@bloodychimp - lol I'm afraid over 20 million (must be over 25 million now) people disagree. Plus you gave San Andreas a 4.5 in your personal review. Just for doing that proves that your opinion isn't worth a penny. Oh and you can't base your opinion of the Wii on the pitiful 4 games in your collection. Wii Sports came with the console, Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario were based around the GC and Dewy's Adventure is a kids game. Try branching out a little and buy some decent NEW games. Then come back to me.
kavadias1981 I think it is time you just accept that the good guys of the games industry are number 1 for this generation. What is that bitter taste in your mouths? So the company that's holding franchises I grew up with hostage to sell a watered down piece of crap console with motion controls that don't work half the time and aren't fun the other half of the time is the good guy? Scaaaarry.
Ah shoot, so no realistic, down-to-earth, standard FIFA 09 with good online play for the Wii, eh? That is...sad :( I'm a huge soccer fan; if I had a FIFA with decent online play, I could play it for years. I'll take a look at FIFA 09 on Wii, but it probably won't be what I'm looking for, if FIFA 08 is any indication :(
@sirfrieden - dont send me angry personal messages. I dont read and delete them. You want to argue then do it here where people can jump in and have their say.
i mean really. i have been able to handle a game controller skillfully since before i could even read. is there really a need to dumb things down even MORE. and oh wow, big head mode. i havent seen that since, well, the nintendo 64.
@luevanos, mylsd, cooldude3, sirfrieden - I just checked your collection guys and shock horror! You dont own Wiis and own 360s. Thats just to back up my earlier comment.
so basically now you have a fancy name for "wattered down motion control port!" grats EA. Rather then make whole new sports games for the wii that take full advantage of the console your going to just take the older versions and do "I programmed this in 10 minutes" motion control. heh. When will people start taking advantage of the wii a little more. The few games that do have been an absolute blast to play. I still hold up RE4 as the ideal example of how to convert a conventional game to take full advantage of the wii.
Exactly as dzimm said, it offers a traditional control sceme and a simpler one for novices. So basically this is the standard EA game but with tons of extra features included. Some of you dont seem to realise this though. Personally I think all the haters just use any article to bash Nintendo and the Wii. Well sorry guys but Nintendo is crushing the competition into the ground so I think it is time you just accept that the good guys of the games industry are number 1 for this generation. What is that bitter taste in your mouths?
ea didnt just do this to the wii guys , look at nascar 09 they did exactly that-make it easier for the casual gamer, so stop blaming nintendo for it ,
Seeing lots of hate here, but I really don't see the problem. As long as they include a more traditional control scheme to accommodate the "hardcore" gamer, what's wrong with broadening the appeal a little? This is, of course, assuming that everything works as hoped and provides a quality gaming experience for all involved (and for that matter, Madden 09 for the Wii is actually looking pretty damn good; let's just hope they don't screw the pooch).
ROFL... oh rofl rofl. Omg this belongs on the April Fools page. WoW EA... This is so funny. OMG I can't... I just cannot stop laughing about that screenshot. Oh gg on reaching the adult market Nintendo. WOW.
EA Sports becomes kid friendly. How can gamers get serious about Wii gaming when companies turn their games into kid games? EA not just kids play games on the Wii but if you keep this up that might be the future of the Wii. The Wii can't seem to break that kiddie system mold.
OK, to simply explain. once there was a game, it came out once a year with few changes each year, this year they are doing the same as well as adding an easy mode, how could that be a bad thing people
I really dont understand. Is this a good thing or a bad thing. I dont really play these types of games so dont know. Can someone please explain why this is bad or not.
...Anytime you actually recognize the CFL, I might gain some respect for you, EA, or any game company really that realizes THERE IS A COUNTRY BEYOND THE USA!
I heard the family friendly controlscheme(optional) from FIFA suck! I also heard that the ones used in Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 should be really good!!
I agree with Pumper. "Oh to toss that ball in madden you have to L and R rtate the thumb stick 3 times then press left then right and the n A to toss the ball. "Hey EA why cant it just be A?"
Actually, this is a smart idea, considering the Wii demographic. Not everyone is a jobless 16 year old who has more then enough time to memorize a zillion button combos.
