Dead Space 2 studio crafting new PS3, Xbox 360 property that is "heavily backed by EA leadership."
In May 2009, Electronic Arts announced the formation of internal studio Visceral Games around the development team behind Dead Space and Dante's Inferno. At the time, then-general-manager Glenn Schofield--who would later defect to Activision--said the shop had two new games in development. One of those turned out to be Dead Space 2, which would go on to be a huge hit, shipping more than 2 million units within a week of release.
As for the other property, little has been heard about the title until this week. A job listing on industry site Gamasutra reveals that Visceral is looking for an executive producer for an all-new property. "The Executive Producer for Visceral Redwood Shores will be leading a bold new IP that is heavily backed by EA leadership," reads the job listing. The listing also reveals that the title in question is in development for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
No public information is available about what the new IP could be. However, in October 2009, rumors circulated that Visceral was working on an alternate take on the Jack the Ripper murders. In that scenario, the titular killer is actually a hero who battles vampires and demons to protect common humans from harm.
hearing ea in the tittle already confirms a detailed human will be the central character....like everything ea makes has 'real'istic people, cars, sports teams, etc.
I wonder if the 'Ripper' story isn't kinda like Van Helsing - isn't that how he was viewed? Seen as a monster but really hunting monsters, but no one knew? I don't remember, that movie was no good.
Don't they have enough jack the ripper games? People are just going to look at this game on the shelves and disregard it as being trash, because all of the other ones are shovelware. Make something unique like dead space, except better please. The menus were the best part of dead space.
A "heroic" Jack the Ripper fighting vampires and demons? Whats next EA? Charles Manson defending the world from a martian invasion?
PC gamer start to hate rockstar and now we move to EA Shadows of the Damned canceled and now this game
I always liked Activision better than EA. But lately, I think I have changed my mind. EA isn't full of greedy ****s.
@Gear64x It's NOT a new Dante's Inferno. They said it's a NEW IP, not a sequel to another IP. Anyway, i'm looking forward to seeing what it is...
@Rocker6 YEAH those 2 games I really want to play in addition to Alan Wake. They all fit the PC category and audience. Their other open world game GTA has been on the PC why not RDR?! And the adventure genre is the PC's niche! Alan Wake and LA Noire are perfect for that.
Its going to be interesting in seeing what the next project is, could be the next Dante's Inferno. What I really like about Visceral is that they borrow key gameplay features from other successful games and incorporate their own deep backstory in it with other unique features. I hope Visceral continues to excel in the industry.
"The Executive Producer for Visceral Redwood Shores will be leading a bold new IP that is heavily backed by EA leadership," I find it hard that "EA" and "bold new IP" were put in the same sentence, but hey, more power to them if they actually mean it.
when they first announced dead space 2 they only announced it for xbox360 & ps3 ..then after a while the PC version !!! I'll stick with that hope & if there is no pc version ..their loss !!!;)
@chicken32,makryuI I agree, they should make the game for the PC as well, some developers are really ignoring the PC nowadays, like Rockstar, and thats too bad, because I want RDR and L.A. Noire on my PC sooo much.
This is precious. The CoD factory released iteration after iteration and people whine about the lack of new IPs. Now here comes a new IP by a good dev and people whine because it's only on consoles. Give it a rest. Just be glad that this second game isn't Dead Space 3.
I think EA and Activision need a hostile takeover. Ive really had enough of their mass DLC and ridiculous promotion campaigns.
I like Visceral. Dead Space is awesome and with a little innovation and polish Dante's Inferno would have been right up there as well. I'll happily follow this and hope for the best.
@scorpgul Dante's Inferno is good but it isn't great. On metacritic the game has an average of 75 which seems right. It's dirt cheap now so if you have any interest in it I would give it a shot.
Wow, we don't even know for sure the title won't be on the PC (there hasn't even been an official release or tweet yet, after all)... and ALREADY the PC-only gamers are lashing out! Acting like rescue dogs, guys. All twitchy and snappy. Relax, we don't know that it is console only... yet.
So.. abandoning PC are we? Then you can be so kind and shove your game up where the sun don't shine, Visceral.
Hmm I really wanted to pick up Dante's Inferno but reviewers criticized the game. Is it a good game?
'Dead Space 2 studio crafting new PS3, Xbox 360 property' If its consoles only, i hope they fail big time.
I can't wait to see it. Both Inferno and Dead Space had some of the best atmosphere in video gaming,
Wait, it's Jack the Ripper but really he's battling demons? Anyone else thinking of the TV show Supernatural?
Well, whatever it is, it's going to be gory :P Dante's Inferno was good, just not too inspired. It played nicely though.
@xdude85 They also didn't do too great of a job with Dante's Inferno... so it should be interesting, indeed. I'm guessing they'll be introducing a new IP with a story that's already established, though.
