Square Enix announces voice talent from East and West for upcoming action game; stars from The Amazing Spider-Man, Kill Bill, Lost, Batman Begins, Die Another Day appearing.
The Amazing Spider-Man actress Emma Stone and Kill Bill star Lucy Liu will play supporting roles in the upcoming action game Sleeping Dogs, publisher Square Enix has announced. The game's full voice acting cast is composed of actors from Asian and American movies and television shows.
Sleeping Dogs' main character--undercover officer Wei Shen--will feature the voice talent of Will Yun Lee, who played the villain in the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day. The game's police inspector Pendrew will be played by Tom Wilkinson, who took on the role of a mafia man in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins.
Other actors lending their voices to Sleeping Dogs include Edison Chen (Infernal Affairs,The Grudge), who will play Wei Shen's childhood friend Jackie Mah. Additionally, Winston Chu will be played by Parry Shen (Better Luck Tomorrow, The New Guy).
Rounding out the supporting cast in unspecified roles will be Robin Shou (Hard to Kill, Fatal Chase), Terence Yin (New Police Story, Colour of Truth), James Hong (Blade Runner, The Day the Earth Stood Still), Tzi-Ma (Rush Hour, The Quiet American), Yunjin Kim (Lost, Diary of June), and Kelly Hu (Martial Law, X2).

Sleeping Dogs--a revival of True Crime: Hong Kong--is an open-world action game set in Hong Kong. The game puts players in the boots of Wai Shen, an undercover police officer fighting through the seedy criminal underworld of the sprawling city. Sleeping Dogs will give players a variety of combat options, including gunplay and a hand-to-hand combat system that lets players use martial arts to bring down their enemies.
At first, I had zero interest in this game and then all of a sudden it's like 'boom' Lucy Liu, then 'BOOM' Emma Stone.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME?!
Ageing/washed up actors should continue seek Dreamworks CGI movies to keep the pay checks coming in - leave video games alone plz
Totally not interested in big name actors voice work - the gameplay is what matters - big name hollywood window dressing does not sell me this or any game.
I think that although it's good to see some big names doing voice overs, it might be a risky move. I say this because there is plenty of voice actors out there waiting for their talent to be shown, who would be paid half the money. Granted good voice acting is a plus, but it shouldn't be something that can make or break the game. I buy games to play not to listen to.
Not surprising since True Crime LA and New York had major actors/voice actors in those games:
LA- Christoper Walken, Michelle Rodriguez, Gary Oldman, Grey Delisle
New York- Christopher Walken, Lawrence Fishburne, Mickey Rourke
The cast seems good but I'm still not interested in this game....
I hated the True Crime games, just really bad games honestly but True Crime: New York had two gems.....the samurai dual with that black guy....can't remember his name or who the voice actor was or anything but the fight itself was awesome and the whole Redman bit was insane and funny as hell....
I'm so impressed with the combat system in this game. It's not perfect but it's satisfying to see round house kicks like that. GTA and Yakuza had a baby, and it was called Sleeping Dogs. Cannot wait!!
Emma Stone's among the most attractive females I've ever seen, alongside Christina Hendricks and a handful of others.
Talented as well.
The only thing I want Lucy Liu and Emma Stone to voice is their whispers of pleasure in my ear when we're in bed together. ;)
Would rather see the rescources for this be put to making sure actual gameplay is fun and innovative, combat mechanics tight and responsive and dialouge options are varied and interesting etc. I was looking forward to a chinese language track with english subtitles anyway =( oh well...
@Humdinger80 Dude, do you know how long this game has been in development? They are happy with the game play. It's time for some quality voice work.
Cast is looking great. Kind of sad that people only know Tom Wilkinson from Batman Begins, but I guess that's what happens when you star in a blockbuster...
Does any one know if Sammo Hung is still involved as a voice actor? That is one of the reasons I was interested in this game.
@tu2pac Why spend so much money on voice acting? 500,000 won't cut the budget and that's why it will fail. I said it once and I'll say it again, game devs/pubs need to learn how to budget their games correctly. It's nice to have these famous folks but really unnecessary.
@cdragon_88 Its not like they had to start form scratch on this game, they bought a piece of "garbage"(as it was deemed by activision) and polished it up tweeked it and turned it into a Hong Kong action movie, so adding these big names wont break their bank when you really think about it. Making Sleeping Dogs is like refurbishing an already built house, you just tear down some walls and change a few thing a viola' you have a nice house
@cdragon_88 "the elder scrolls 4: Patrick Stewart"
I'll bet this cast is not as expensive as the article makes it seem. The biggent talent (dollar-wise) will be Stone and Liu. Everyone else, while certainly recognizable to fans of whatever they were in (<3 Yunjin Kim), doesn't really have a big Hollywood name, or anything. And their roles probably won't be that large.
Still, I do wonder how much it cost, considering how well a big-budget game needs to sell in order to be profitable.
