@leeko_link Completely never even though about it like that.. good point. If Nintendo have got the rights to the games then they should work on a modern installment - completely different from the others. I've always wanted a 3D version of the Pokemon games, not 3D as in with the glasses, 3D as in the jump from Grand Theft Auto 2 to Grand Theft Auto 3. If they made a 1st/3rd person open-world RPG in the world of Pokemon I would definitely buy the game. It would be genius. Not to mention the fact it would wipe the floor with Skyrim - and I love Skyrim!
Fraudulent 99 cent app claiming to be port of Game Boy original rose to number three position on paid app chart before disappearing from online market.
Nintendo has staunchly stood against smartphone gaming for some time now, but this weekend, some may have thought the company reversed its stance. As spotted by Ars Technica, a fraudulent 99 cent Pokemon Yellow app appeared in Apple's iTunes store and rose to the number three position on the service's paid app chart.
As of press time, the Pokemon Yellow app is no longer available to purchase through iTunes.
Published by House of Anime, the game--which was released on February 17--was billed as "just like the original," and its product page showed the Game Boy game's title screen, as well as screenshots from the monster-catching role-playing game.
Additionally, the product page for the title displayed favorable, but unattributed, press quotes and a line that read, "all trademarks and copyrights are owned by their respective owners." Following the game's release, its developer penned an apology to fans concerning performance issues with the game.
As of press time, Nintendo had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment on the matter.
@warhawk-geeby It could make a lot of money for Nintendo sure on the sales aspect but still releasing a first party game on a competitor's device will only confuse customers (most will probably complain why it got release on iPhone instead of 3DS VC) and will only draw them away from Nintendo's own handheld. Third party titles like Final Fantasy, Sonic, Secret of Mana, Mega Man X and many others are possible cuz they aren't first party games but games own by Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft's are unlikely. The Pokemon Company could still release a Pokemon app on the iPhone, just not an actual game since that's what Nintendo do.
I check it, it gone, I think Nintendo got angry too seen that copyrights on app store, what a scam for $$$$. Don't Buy A FAKE GAME FROM APPLY!!!!!!
@leeko_link Yeahhh I know.. it's just unfortunate. Surely there's some sort of deal they could cut with Apple? Even a 99p a pop Nintendo could still earn a lot of money.
What's the big deal about Pokemon, then? Is it awesome or something? PS, I know Nintendo owns Pokemon. Apparently, they caught 'em all!
More proof that if Nintendo made a smart phone with pokemon on it, no one would ever get any work done...
@warhawk-geeby The only way Nintendo would ever make a Pokemon game let alone any other Nintendo game on iPhone is if Nintendo bought Apple out of business. Either that or Nintendo becomes third party. Asking for Nintendo games on iPhone is like asking for Sony to release Uncharted on 3DS. It won't happen.
As hilarious as this is Nintendo seriously need to release the thing on smart phones - they could make a killing :| I only really use my iPod for music, but if Pokemon was available on it that would all change. I used to spend hours on Red back in the day..
How does something like this happen? Some random guy can give iTunes some Pokemon.exe claiming it's a game and they just go and sell it?
@Shaoran_Li If Nintendo wants ppl to buy Pokemon Yellow, they'll want them to buy it on a Nintendo handheld, not on an iPhone or any other non-Nintendo devices. You can't have a killer app title on a competitor's product when you are also in the market to best the competitor in the first place.
It makes me sad that their were enough people so blinded by nostalgia they fell for a pretty obvious fake and that no one noticed until it was in third place.
Just another day in the app store. It's pretty much filled with bootlegs, and scams. Like that "Zelda Jump" or "Call of Duty Jump" games which is pretty much just doodle jump.
I don't know how people could think this was real since the screen shots show a newer pokemon game (probably leaf green or fire red) and description said "just like the original", that sounds a little fishy to me. Not to mention the laughable rating (9+ for "mild horror/fear themes and infrequent mild mature/suggestive themes"), plus all those one star ratings.
Why do people fall for the scams? Just look at the 1 and a half star reviews and that's enough to know its fake.
This isn't the first time a fake pokemon game was released trust me look it up you'll see what I mean
@Sepewrath It is indeed amazing to see how people can pull this stunt off. And for them to be able to do it more than once. I think Nintendo should show us their respect by sueing this user. Because only then he'll see that he isn't safe from stealing money of people with fake goods.
I'm sorry but it was soooooo fake the images were not even the orginal pokemon yellow WTF :/ and everyone knows Nintendo + Smart Phone gaming = No go zone I say good on em if you were a legend you would play the original ;)
@Kos1c Yeah I believe they released a fake Digimon game. Its amazing that someone can do this more than once. And people wonder what the problem is with an open system. Its hard to stop things like this happening, when a thousand things going up every 10 minutes.
It would be amazing to have this classic on my phone i'm afraid though i would'nt leave my phone again. :S This was the best Pokemon game ever after Ruby, well they're on par they should reinvent them on the 3DS if they're not willing to release a smart phone version
I read this last night on Toucharcade.com. The uploader to this 'app' has been known to scam people out of money. He made the game, and it would crash after the start menu. On every IOS device. Toucharcade were believing that he designed the game to be broken, because he knew it would be pulled in a matter of days. So for his broken, fake app to make the 3rd spot, would of made him a pretty penny. Apple need to sort out it's app store and take more time processing apps. There have been way to many broken and fake apps. People should be able to report apps that are broken, and if enough people report it, the app is pulled within 20 days, unless it receives an update within that time, and the process is reset. Also everyone who bought the app should be refunded. Nintendo have nothing to do with this Pokemon Yellow app btw, so they wouldn't need to give a statement on the matter, other than "It wasn't us."
