Hironobu Sakaguchi surfing game Party Wave is on iTunes for $1.99.

Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi's latest game under his studio Mistwalker Corporation is now available.

Party Wave, billed as an action game featuring sea surfing, is now on the iOS platform for $1.99 on iTunes. The game's objective is to lead a number of surfers to a surf spot, and then make them surf as long as possible without getting knocked out by obstructions, like coral and sea turtles. Players guide the surfers by touching them on the iPhone or iPad's touchscreen.

Mistwalker's most recent game on consoles was The Last Story. The Japanese version came out last year; the North American version is slated to be out this August. For more information, check out GameSpot's review and recent article.

Well, at least Final Fantasy III is available on Android. Square-Enix basically ported the DS version to Android. Why the Hell wasn't THAT covered?

Chill guys, this is just Sakaguchi trying something new, he did said that future project would reveal more about the world of The Last Story so he'll probably work on a sequel after the first game release on Wii. It's likely The Last Story II and a new title are in the work though LSII would probably be exclusively for Wii U since Nintendo still own The Last Story trademark. The other title may either point to a Lost Odyssey or Blue Dragon sequel or perhaps a new RPG for Xbox 360 or 3DS.

To those who look at this with jaded eyes saying to themselves things to the effect of "how the mighty have fallen"; you reallly don't understand the motive behind this. It is clearly a team making a spare game in transition from one big game to the next (which happens a lot, most of the downloadable and even some new IP's from big developers come from the experimentation in this time) or just the restuls of wanting to create something different as a short break. I mean, these people spend the majority of two years on a single game (The Last Story) and then have to build themselves up again to enter a new task of the same level or higher magnitude; and the enticement to spend from an eightth to a half of the time required ot making another one of those games to instead make something completely different to release while the critical responses of their previous effort are still coming in (because undoubtedly the continued critical reception of The Last Story will affect choices put into production of their next big game) so it is probably good for them to do something very different and unwind a little to take everything else in (especially since if they didn't do that, their games would be filled with similar responses to the same inspirations and they would run out of things to say and to do pretty quickly).

@Dixavd Good call.  Even Pixar works on those mini flicks that get shown before their movies.

Square-Enix releases Chaos Rings.  Mistwalker releases this.  C'mon, Gooch.  You're better than this.  If you're going to release an iOS game at least make it an RPG.

Mistwalker should make a new RPG

How did they go from making critically acclaimed jRPGs to this disgraceful social crap?

@Henrique2324 @MXVIII both of you dont know what you are talking about, he did this game because he likes to surf and loves it and he did it because it was fun not for the money or anything else(and yes it was done all by himself) and he is one of the best developers of games.

The last story was a bad game?Lost Odyssey was bad?blue dragon? etc etc...

And he is responsible at least for me of some of the best games ever  created like parasite eve 2 FF 7 and 10, Chrono Trigger, Legend of Mana, Kingdom Hearts just to name a few.

See the full list of game he is involve...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hironobu_SakaguchiJust because he made a game about surfing does not mean anything at all!! In fact it tells a lot about of him, he can create a game about pretty much everything ... and yes the game its fun to play too :)

@slayerSS-3  @MXVIII I do. That's why I said "Why go from making such great games" to this. I understand this is a "game" being released in-between one of his RPGs, but it's still ridiculous.Besides, this is an IOS game. It's not fun, it's catered towards complete newcomers to gaming who don't want any sort of long-term entertainment.

@slayerSS-3 Oh I take any sort of social, MMO, casual gaming from good developers very seriously. But don't mind me.

@Henrique2324  Bad or not you don't have to take it so seriously. Like you said is just an interval till his next big game.

Henrique2324
Henrique2324

@slayerSS-3  @MXVIII It's just that there's this huge gap of genre between his last games and this thing. And the second genre is bad. Like, real bad. But like I said, I know this is sort of an interval between his REAL games.

@Henrique2324  @MXVIII Its not like mistwalker is going to make surf games from now on or games for iOS system, this game took them just a few months to be made it, I dont understand what is the big deal here, he loves to surf so he made this game in a few months... why is ridiculous?

@Henrique2324  Not surprised. Hironobu was never that great of a developer. In fact its because of so many failed projects that it was called Final Fantasy...as in if this shit fails I'm freaking done with video games.

@MXVIII It's true that's why it was called final fantasy but that was only his 4th year with square that he done that, since then he's been involved with alot of good games e.g. the rest of FF series up to X-2 I know not all of them were great but he did make FF VI and VII, chronotrigger, chronocross, bushido blade 1 and 2, parasite eve 1 and 2, vagrant story and kingdom hearts.

Don't know what you think of this but to me it doesn't sound like the kind of track record a bad dev would have.

@MXVIII Idk about Hironobu, but I'm fairly sure Square started out making games like this.  Still... lol, you'd think he'd of learned a lesson. But, shouldn't people try something new every once in a while?
