Killzone, Wipeout, Call of Duty, Uncharted, Little Big Planet lead initial lineup for Sony's next portable; Metal Gear Solid, Lost Planet, Yakuza also possible.
Sony has finally taken the wraps off its Next Generation Portable at a Japanese press event, doling out details on the system, including hardware specs and a holiday release window. Unfortunately, Sony was not as forthcoming with some other details on the system, specifically price and third-party software lineup.
On the first-party front, Sony confirmed that a slew of its biggest franchises are in development for the NGP. In addition to showing off new Uncharted and Hot Shots Golf games, Sony confirmed that signature series like Killzone, Wipeout, Resistance, and Little Big Planet would also be coming to the new platform. Sony also confirmed a few original properties for NGP, including Little Deviants, which leans heavily on the system's touch screen and rear touch pad.
Unfortunately, much of the software news came in the form of tantalizing teases that weren't paired with actual game announcements. For example, Hideo Kojima showed off a Metal Gear Solid clip with models from his PlayStation 3 blockbuster Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots running on the NGP. However, he specifically said he wasn't announcing the game. Instead, he was using the clip to show off the NGP's potential--but he did say he had something planned for the portable he would show off at E3.
Earlier in the event, Capcom's Jun Takeuchi and Sega's Toshihiro Nagoshi respectively showed off their latest Lost Planet and Yakuza games running on the NGP. But similar to Kojima, both noted that the demos were thrown together quickly to show the ability to port PS3 titles to the NGP.
One big franchise definitely headed to the NGP is Activision's Call of Duty. The revelation that the blockbuster first-person shooter franchise would be appearing on Sony's new handheld served as the capper to the Sony press conference, with Activision Call of Duty executive vice president Phillip Earl promising that it will set the bar for portable gaming.

transfarring with all vita games? cause' kojima said that's his goal in his e3 2011 interview. love this... hope thats also goes for all the other vita games... if they going to do that, might as well put in the ps3 version of the game with the psp or vita version of the game
@Cartr1dgeBased well i'm positive they wont make it but i like the cross platform idea perhaps they can use some magic and take a picture of your face and put it on your guy like reality fighters
great list so far. and im so stoked about what they will announce at e3. @baconater87 i never even considered skyrim (as i highly doubt it will happen) but that might be a killer app right there esp. if i could have cross-platform gameplay on my ps3. if they are unable to pull that off, than it would be fine too. you know, play one way on console and go mage/thief or something on the....... i guess they're calling it vita. though if it is cross-platform my social life would be at it's lowest point
killzone and cod will be beast on multiplayer infrastructure!and i like the trophies system.its like an handled ps3
I'm very looking forward to these games, except for CoD. I hope they have street fighter for it also or MVC. That would make my day.
@Seiki_sands umm when was the 3ds announce at e3 and the NGP was recently announce so give it time I'm sure there will be allot more games will be getting announce for the NGP
OMG! The lineup is impressive i reaally cant wait to have an NGP in my hands... im going to save all this year... I mean it's going to be great i cant imagine Killzone's Multiplayer portable... or CoD for that matter!
That's a hell of a lineup of games and the overall 3rd party support looks impressive to say the least.
I'm not sold on the whole rear touch screen idea, but the updated graphics and (most importantly) the second analog stick are major selling points for me.
The games look great! Way better graphics from PSp to NGP! A better LittleBigPlanet, better Monster Hunter, portable Uncharted, better Lost Planet maybe, tons of shooters, 3G and wifi. I also heard about a new motorstorm. Who cares about 3DS GIVE ME THE NGP! I guess I have to start mowing lawns now...
Nothing really pops out at me, my only personal killer app is Monster Hunter 3rd, and I'm still not sure if they're talking about an update to MHP 3rd or just backwards compatibility.
@jokerman_28 Unfortunately, Ghost of Sparta was the last God of War Ready at Dawn Studios created. But they might be able to port Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta over to the NGP.
Im so excited with what is already in the works like you have no idea lol such as killzone, uncharted, call of duty and lost planet(except dynasty warriors omg when will they stop). I hope that half life, bioshock, max payne, another assassin's creed, resident evil, silent hill, GTA, red faction, MAG, battlefield, portal, motor storm, borderlands, need for speed, and etc will be in the works. That would be exciting
Uncherted...killzone... I just want to see infamous. I understand people who say they dont want console games on their handhelds but if for example, your in a thick firefight in uncharted on your ps3 and then your the school bus turns up, you plug in your ngp, unplug it and then at school, you can pick up right where you left off. That would be awsome.
I just though of something that would be cool. What if they released some PS3 games with an NGP version that came in a pack? Like BRs and digital copies. I would pay a little more to do that. Especially if you could tenasfer saves easily.
Honestly. I would be willing to buy some ported PS3 titles. Not a lot of them but a few. If the price was good. KZ, Resistance, and a few others.
I have a feeling to help kick the portable off not many original games are going to be there just remakes of games that non-Ps3 users never had.
I bet da games are hell expensive, oh well just have to download from psn, but for some reason i like having the umd's
I will also wait for a revised version of the NGP, since it will be much cheaper and i can buy with ma pocket money
The only thing the DS had going for it was the touch screen and the exclusives. It attracted kids and such. Now the touch screen is inferior to the NGP's it will be interesting to see what happens. Hopefully Playstation releases lots more "kid/childs" games to increase the sales and therefore increasing the money that can be injected towards adding more good games and attracting more developers to make games for it!
We can all say that 3DS and NGP are huge leaps forward for Portable gaming. Personally I'm going with the NGP simply because the DS wasn't really my portable of choice. Excited for both though.
Very good, but not yet anywhere near as good as the 3DS announced lineup... Paper Mario RPG, Fantasy Life (Level-5 RPG), Shin Megami Tensei Devil Survivor, Shin Megami Tensei Persona, Kid Icarus, BlazBlue, Professor Layton, Metal Gear Solid, Zelda OoT, Starfox, Etrian Odyssey, Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, BloodRayne, Steel Diver, Super Robot Taisen, Dead or Alive, Street Fighter, Pilotwings, A Boy and His Blob, Resident Evil, Kingdom Hearts, Harvest Moon, Ridge Racer, Rayman, Assassin's Creed, Asphalt, DJ Hero, Tales of the Abyss, Splinter Cell, Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Contra, Madden, FIFA, Mega Man Legends 3 Let's see nearer to launch.
I think Call of Duty will be great on NGP. the biggest problems for FPS with PSP is that they only have 1 analog stick, but NGP has two... WIN!
this NGP will hit the protable market hard and it looks a real start to next genration protables.
They should have announced this later in the year. That way I wouldn't have died waiting for it!
Is this some kind of magical brick from heaven? Man, the worst part about this is that no matter how amazing this piece of hardware is, the 3DS will still sell more...
