G4 to change direction - Report

The live/studio shows were the only things worth watching on the whole network and they've killed them. Good luck with mediocrity.

what done in the DARK will come to the LIGHT.....do you think it is a coincident that our favorite TV HOSTS started jumping ship one after the other...don't be surprised that by the end of the year there's a hold new crew.....

They were doomed a few Years ago, when "G4 Television for Gamers" only had 1.2 Shows actually about games... Attack of the Show is Hardly a Show about Games. The Idiot In Charge bought TechTV and changed it to "G4, We have 1 show about Games"

That's Your First Mistake Idiot... Myself and many others would love to watch Judgement Day and Electric Playground, but you decided to play Cops instead... I hope your Serving Fries somewhere now, cause you certainly don't know anything about running a Network, let alone one about Gaming.

Once  Adam Sessler and Kevin Pereira parted from G4, the network hasn't had that same touch they once had and now seeming less entertaining especially with shows like "Attack of the show " and " Xplay " or even the coverage on E3 & Comic con it just seems like G4's loosing its touch after loosing those who made it yet entertaining.

G4 was pretty good for a while. I miss shows like Code Monkeys, G4TV.com, Judment Day, Cinematech etc. There was this one show that I really liked where they talked about certaing games or game companies and talked about their impact etc.. The only recent things I saw recently was Bomb Patrol and Top 100 videogames of all time. I haven't watched G4 in a long time. The dolls in Thunderbirds creeped me out for some reason. You guys remember Nocturnal Emissions?

Bottom Line:  Techtv >>>>>>> G4     Judgement Day >>>>>>> Attack of the Show

It's a good thing I stopped watching that channel back when it was good. I'm still concerned though, both for the added ammunition this gives in the misdirected war against video games, and because this unfortunately bows and offers itself in hari kari to the new very ugly and depraved new theme games are adopting. I guess I'll just disenfranchise this type of show, thanks for alienating me.

I loved G4 when I was younger. Adam Sessler and Morgan Webb are what kept me coming back. I had a hardcore crush on Morgan and Adam kept me in stitches (see the Aquaman with a Mullet jokes). I loved the original Attack of the Show line-up, watched it every afternoon.  But Sessler has since left and the AotS gang has slowly disbanded over the years and G4 has really lost it's mix of information and humor over the years.

It's sad to see G4 be rebranded for the metrosexual, Justin Beiber loving generation. 

Sad news I like G4 I remember  the channel back then from surfing my remote. X play and attack of the show were the shows that made me watch G4. I guess I'll just have to move on again from this torture news.

Does this mean the program's writers and hosts are gonna grow up, finally? Damn kids, get off my lawn!

They probably would have had better long term success if they just broadcast Starcraft I/II matches all day.

G4 over the past few years lost it's mojo - rerun of cops and ninja warrior did it.... We need a station strictly dedicated to geek-hood and geek related shows. Attack of the show (with KP back) would be a great start! But they need more game and other commentary.  Podcasts like Orange Lounge Radio and Bobby Blackwolfe on tv would be good additions.  Also more exclusive bad-a$$ anime would also add a nice touch. Shows like ninja warrior aren't bad - just don't run them into the ground

I remember Tech TV. I loved that channel, so many shows centered around, well, technology. I loved X-play. I loved spy school. I also loved Robot Wars, which for some reason mysteriously disappeared after a while. Of course that was way back when I was a wee lad, but it left an impression on me.

I stop watching G4 right after it turn from TechTV to G4... What a joke of a channel. Go from great to suck... 

I miss Cinematech.

It was much better when it was ZDTV and even better when it became Tech TV, but once Tech TV merged with G4 it slowly became pretty horrible. I'm surprised it took this long to die out. It was just so good when it was Tech TV. Ooh, so soooo good, I would leave that channel on for hours!

G4 hasn't been worth watching since the Sess and Pereira both left, they kept viewers coming back, and of course Miss Munn as well.

AOTS and X-Play now do more interviews with celebrity's than they did over a  year ago, even celebrity's i have never even heard of? I do love Candace and Sara though just for the eye candy.

I can't say I ever faithfully watched G4. After it became an exclusive DTV channel, I stopped watching. However with that said, the producers have to understand that at the heart of G4, its simply a gaming channel! Adding interesting tidbits like Ninja Warriors and Cops is all good, but with the AOTS, I don't recall another program that's worth my time.

I'm hoping some of the old crew that left form another station and go back to their roots.

GQ? Why would I want a GQ channel instead of a tech/gaming channel?  sigh...

Reviews on the Run, the only thing I watch anymore on there, but even that is on other channels. The only decent cast of people who aren't that biased, unlike the terrible and overly biased cast on X-Play

I agree with so many of these other posts. I loved G4 about 6-7 years ago, when they had programs like Game Icons, Code Monkeys, etc., now they've gone the complete opposite direction. I still like X Play and Attack of the Show , but those are pretty much it. It shouldn't even be called G4 anymore. Seems like Spike TV has more programming about video games then G4.

Personally, I think this channel died after they quit playing Code Monkeys. Seems like that was the last good show on the channel. Only thing that kept me around was Ninja Warrior and X-Play, or when they did a random gaming marathon, like top 100 games, etc. Sucks they probably won't play Ninja Warrior on anything else, but might as well just let it die before they make the channel ever more shittier.

Its no secret this channel has been garbage for years,I remember the good times when all the programs actually had something to do with video games, now its 95% crap.

Um who cares. Honestly im sick of Cops and Cheaters. I remember when this channel used to actually be about nerdy stuff but then they tried to make into some kind of Spike tv, channel for men with there stupid shows like Human Wreaking Ball. At this point the only reasons to keep the channel going are not enough to excuse the 12 hour blocks of Cops and Cheaters they have to play in order to fill time between anything even halfway decent. I just dont understand why they made that change of direction because the channel used to be awesome

I miss the good ol'e days. Never thought I would be saying that so early in life. 

Well that just sucks. The only thing keeping me watching G4 at this point was Adam Sessler and Kevin Pereira. X-Play had been going down hill for a long time now so now i just watch for AOTS and event coverage. It's really frustrating that all these once awesome networks just keep turning to complete SH**......complete and utter SH**. 

G4 was good (not great) back in the day but over past few years I look at it's schedual and it is Xplay, AoTS, Ninja Warrior, Cops,Cops,Cops,Cops,Cops,Cops....you get my point. The only "gaming" show any more is x-play but when it is filled with 22 hrs of cops how can it even consider it'self a gaming channel? Sorry, no matter how much they pushed AoTS (attack of the show) I never really could get into that branding of so called entertainment. Short and sweet....let G4 die all together since it pretty much has been on a respirator for the past 4 years.

Well the only show I cared to watch was X-Play.  Direct TV dropped the channel and I haven't missed it.  Maybe rebranding will save the network--rebranding is a sign they probably need saving.

I guess they're finally dead, now.

Didn't this already happen in 2008 when they axed all of their video game shows except for X-Play?

Havent watched that since Olivia left. Went downhill from there.

If they want to fix the channel and not have it be like Spike or a 24/7 gaming channel, then they need to air the following shows:

X-Play, Electric Playground, Cheat!, Mythbusters, Big Bang Theory, Chuck, Heroes, Star Trek, STNG, some new video game game show, Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Captain N, The Legend of Zelda, Sonic the Hedgehog, Kirby, Sonic X, Sonic Underground, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, F-Zero, Donkey Kong Country, one good sci-fi movie per week, one bad sci-fi movie per week, one cheesy sci-fi movie per week, and maybe some other sci-fi series.  So, yeah.   I want G4 for GeekPhoria.  Give me nerdy shows at night, video game cartoons on Saturdays, vide game review shows in the early evenings, and movies at night from Fri-Sun.

G4 won't get ANY less sleazy. It'll just get about 90% more douchey.

They went from crappy hormonal gamer channel to crappy hormonal men's magazine channel? Bah, I couldn't care less either way. :P

Does that mean no more MMO Report? Wherever will I get my Schreiner fix!?I wonder if Sessler and Perreira just saw the writing on the wall and knew it was coming...? We won't be their target demographic anymore, so it would stand to reason that they couldn't care less about our opinions of the temporary hosts, shitty programing, and "alleged" new direction. Because nerds don't have money to spend, right?

I don't watch G4, I can't bloody stand it. It's just 10yr old humor and youtube videos with half naked women thrown in for ratings. It seems like when us "nerds" get a TV station we enjoy they butcher it to add idiocy and stupid nonsense (Sci-Fi changing to SyFy for example with nothing but reality shows and watered down politically correct crap). Now G4 is going the same way. THIS is what happens when greedy corporations get a hold of something GOOD. Every single time!!! They RUIN it. EA, Activision...same thing. I really wish someone would come along and give us what we want. Crap like this just stupifys humanity. The only place left is The Science Channel.....

If I heard this 5 years ago I would have been really mad but now I couldn't care less. G4 was once my go to place for anything to do with gaming. They had shows about gaming all time on TV and the website. They had amazing staff members and it was truly a station for gamers. Now all there is on is X-Play which sucks compared to what it use to be. And AOTS was staying afloat when Kevin was there but once he left the show has been awful. Candence doesn't even seem to care, and the different guest hosts every week that try to be funny when they aren't. Only good thing about the show is Sara Underwood.

As for game reviews, G4 use to have great reviews on X-Play and at least 2-3 per episode now your lucky to see 1 really short review on X-Play. And online it takes them sometimes weeks before they post a review to a game and rarely do video reviews anymore. 

Lastly, the station is just a place for reruns and bad shows like Cops and Cheaters to play for hours on end now a days. Plus they decided to show Heroes and Lost again and they act like it's a big deal cause they are doing 4 hour blocks Monday and Tuesday. If people were really that interested in a show or loved it  they would own the series on dvd or blu ray by now and wouldn't want to sit down for 4 hours watching old shows with commercials. G4's demise is one of the main reasons I was sad to see On the Spot just vanish on here. I looked forward to the show because there's not many shows about games anymore because G4 stopped caring about gamers a long time ago.
