Gabe Newell to receive BAFTA Fellowship award

Valve boss to receive UK award for his "outstanding and exceptional contribution to games."
Valve's Gabe Newell will be the recipient of this year's BAFTA Fellowship award.
"It is an honor for myself and everyone at Valve to be presented such an award by one of the world's most respected and recognised organisations," said Newell.
Newell is one of the most prolific figures in gaming today, establishing Valve in 1996 after breaking away from a career at Microsoft which started in 1983. Valve's output includes Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, and Counter-Strike. The developer is also behind digital distribution service Steam and is currently working on Dota 2.
After being informed of the latest trophy which will soon adorn Valve's well-stocked cabinet, Newell thanked his UK fans and saw fit to name-drop Garry Newman, the creator of Source engine playground Garry's Mod.
"Valve owes a tremendous thanks to many in the UK--to those who have played our games, to the great support of the UK press, and to UK-based creative contributors such as Garry Newman. I look forward to accepting this prestigious honor on behalf of everyone in our community."
"Awarded annually by BAFTA, the Fellowship is the highest accolade bestowed upon an individual in recognition of an outstanding and exceptional contribution to games," said BAFTA.
Newell will join the BAFTA Fellowship ranks alongside previous recipients Peter Molyneux, Shigeru Miyamoto, Nolan Bushnell, and Will Wright.
The BAFTA awards take place on March 5, and you can check out a full list of nominees here.
The awards ceremony will be live-streamed on Twitch.

Congrats to Gabe now lets hope he finish's up that new game engine of his soon so we can play the next half life
3 Like Congratulations Gabe, you have made fantastic contributions to the world of gaming. A modern man refining and doing things that people only thought about, but he got off his rear and did.
While Valve hasn't really done much good in the last few years, I do think he deserves recognition as a great gaming figure.
@koospetoors hmm.... i dont think it will weight much... box will probably weight as much as other game boxes while the digital version will weight nothing

7 Like Getting a good laugh from some of these comments... Who would've thought that a video games developer wouldn't be some kind of physical adonis? If you can't think of anything relevant to his achievements in the industry to comment upon, don't bother. If all you have is a personal comment aimed at him, keep it to yourself. And then take a long hard look at yourself and decide if you're really so perfect that you can go attacking some dude you don't even know.
@Shanks_D_Chop Get a grip. The "Gabe Newell weight" jokes are almost always made by the fans. There's nothing malicious behind them, its just a running (albeit not very funny) joke in most cases.

Or is it the fans who apparently continue to make unnecessary jokes which you yourself realise aren't very funny? They aren't funny at all, they're crude and pointless. Consider at what point they stop being jokes and become outright insults.

He may not be a beauty model obviously but he is defenetly a role model for every enthusiastic game developer out there.
