Gamers rallying against Dark Souls PC using Games for Windows Live

Petition decrying Microsoft's DRM service gathers over 13,000 signatures asking for Steamworks version of upcoming PC port.
More than 13,000 gamers have signed an online petition asking Namco Bandai to ditch plans to use Games for Windows Live in the upcoming PC game Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, or at least offer a Steamworks version.
The group's petition posted to Change.org has more than 13,000 signatures as of press time. It decries Games for Windows Live as "unpopular," "inconvenient," and "difficult to use."
"After anxiously awaiting a PC release for this fantastic game it feels like a real slap in the face hearing Dark Souls will use Games for Windows Live," reads the statement.
The petition asks Namco Bandai to consider using Valve's Steamworks for digital rights management, claiming it is "easier to use, less intrusive, more reliable, and more accepted among PC gamers."
The Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition includes everything found in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the 2011 role-playing game, as well as new content. This includes new bosses, areas, enemies, weapons, and armor, as well as a PVP online matchmaking system.

1 Like I never in my life understood why people hated GFWL. Honestly, I've played numerous titles with it ranging from the Arkham Series to Fallout 3 to Gears of War. I've never had an issue with any of the titles and it actually let's you see what your xbox friends are playing. Plus even though Steam does it too, it let's you gain achievements. That said I don't like drm period, so I don't like Steam or GFWL. When I bought my retail copy of Skyrim I hated that I had to go through steam to play. It's bull. Drm is bull because pirates are *always* going to end up cracking software anyway. So development should go into making a good product, not making people who pay money for the games jump through hoops (which regardless of which one you like or don't like, both Steam and GFWL make you do). But as far as services, both have benefits, so I don't see why people hate GFWL like a virus ha ha. What evs.
@sknight175216 because GFWL sucks. It crashes and gives all type of registry problems and their tech support is worse than bad. back when GFWL first launched it killed a bunch of potentially good games because people stopped playing tthem because they used GFWL
@oflow It's understandable if that kind of mess happens ha ha. But I've played games with it and I have never crashed or had a registry error because of GFWL. So from my perspective I just see people hating for no reason. Now if those things actually happened with multiple titles to me I would be against it too. I've had more problems with Steam than GFWL to be honest. Like automatically reverting my settings to do not update when I restart Steam and automatically downloading DLC for games when I reinstall and not giving me the option to not download the DLC. Either way both are DRM and can suck it ha.
@sknight175216 I personally like steam because I dont like using discs and I have 50MBs internet so Steam is cool for me but I cant understand why people dont like it. especially people that just want to play single player. But GFWL is bad. Ebough people complained about it back when DoW launched that the removed it from DoW2
3 Like Lmao, you weirdo's crack me up, steam sucks, they all do, and none of them prevents piracy. Stop supporting this crap. I want games, especially single player games, not to need internet ever to install and play, I don't want to deal with installing additional crap whenever I reformat or upgrade my damn pc. Just give me the damn game and the cd key to install. And I don't appreciate steam, origin or any other program snooping around my PC. It's sad, I have bought several titles, GTA IV, Total war series, SOASER, etc etc etc, and I end up using the torrent versions. I hate that!
1 Like Hmm, I haven't used Games For Windows in a while but when I did I quite liked it, I know most of you people are Steam fans but come on, you act like it kills you. Steam is an awesome service but you have to understand that some companies have to compete with them right ?
1 Like @phillkillv2 I use Steam as my primary instant messenger with all of my friends. It really is easy to use and isn't as intrusive as Windows Live or Origin. I really hate having to down Windows Live or Origin and I always seem to have issues with them. While competition is good, Live and Origin are so horrible, customers only use the software because they are being forced to use it.

I'm super OCD about my PC games; I like having them all on steam. Even though you can buy dark souls on steam, it's still a GFWL game and thus I'll just stick to my console version.
i say for 13,000 gamers (console kids ) there will be Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition and even better than console edition better graphic sorry to till you but buy a PC
2 Like @chechak7 I guess you didn't here what the devs said about the PC ports. They said with all their efforts, the game may not run efficiently on PC because of porting issues.

1 Like Yea GFWL is the worst of the worst (well Ubisofts DRM is likely equally terrible). No other purchased game has required me to break the damn DRM before I can even play it, wtf? This DRM needs to die, now. I want to play Dark Souls on PC but I wont be buying it if this holds true :(

READ THE ARTICLE YOU MORON. IT USES GFWL. AFTER you log in to Steam, you have to log in to GFWL, possibly one of the WORST DRMs ever made, it locks out whole countries in it's blacklist and handles online horribly. It also makes the game unplayable on alot of optimized systems.
Know your stuff before posting crap.

@Kickable @allegiance86 Yes however I'm not handing over my money and supporting a retarded system. On the contrary I bought the game and have played it for around 90 mins. To my unsurprised self GFWL signed me out whist fighting a boss and therein forced me back to the Title screen.

I don't understand why you guys don't like GFWL. I mean I love the system as I purchased a Xbox 360 before I purchased a PC so I already have achievements saved on my GFWL account so I have friends on it too. I love to communicate with my friends on Xbox 360 using GFWL as i do not have a xbox 360 anymore. why do you guys hate it?
The system is not reliable.
I am currently locked out because GFWL seems to think that I'm a user from a non-supported country (which is, of course, false). I have Dark Souls and cannot play it.
@hussyk2 Because LIVE is a good innovation and useful tool for console players. But it's a step backwards on Windows. It's just like for many less militarily advanced countries the T55 tank is a great tool. But if you tell the Americans or Russians to use it they'll probably laugh to death.
