Hollywood news site says Creative Artists Agency "eager" to meet with producers in weeks ahead to get back to work on movie.
Plans to bring Gears of War to the big screen are being revived. That's according to Hollywood news site Variety, which reports that the Creative Artists Agency--which reportedly represents Epic Games--is "eager" to meet with producers in the weeks ahead to discuss returning to work on adapting the series for the silver screen.
The film has been in development since 2007 at Lord of the Rings studio New Line, but the site points out that the company has put the film on hold to focus its efforts on Peter Jackson's upcoming Hobbit trilogy. It is not clear which production company CAA plans to pitch the project to.
Epic Games was not immediately available for comment.
The Gears of War movie has been a long time coming. Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman came aboard the project in 2008, before dropping from the movie in 2010.
It was also believed that the late Man on Fire and Top Gun director Tony Scott was very eager to direct the film.
Whatever the case, the project will proceed without former Epic Games design director Cliff Bleszinski. He left the Cary, North Carolina-based studio last week after 20 years to "chart the next stage" of his career.
The next entry in the Gears of War series--Gears of War Judgement--is due out March 19, 2013 exclusively for Xbox 360. It is being developed by Epic Games and People Can Fly, a Polish studio that recently became a wholly owned Epic Games outfit.

I'll wait for the Assassin's Creed movie with Michael Fassbender or the Shadow of the Colossus movie directed by Josh Trank. Color me uninterested.
2 Like Too late, judging by it's current fanbase size; no one cares about Gears of war anymore. this movie should have been released while gears 1-2 were still popular on XBL activity.
@zerooo0 gears 3 is currently number 12 on most played XBL games, gears 1 was #1 till halo 3 came out, then it became number #2. gears of war 2 was 5-12 till 2011. even after the release of gears 2, many people still played gears 1 and finding matches was faster than it is today.
the population clearly dropped faster than milli vanilli's career. none of the gears of war judgement videos on youtube haven't even accumulated 1 million views, unlike any of the installments of the original trilogy.
2 Like I don't believe there is a big enough consumer base for this movie to be a financial success. However, I'll be seeing it.

@cerso @Albaficas Uh have either of you even played the first or the second one :s The first gears is everyones favourite and the second one im pretty sure they lost most of their fans after the second one though. The story wasn't horrible at all if you noticed many of the fans got so attached that even a random ; Carmine got the hearts of the fans which shows how good the story line is for people to like ever bit of the characters put into this game.
As much as I like Gears of War series. There is not really much to the story. An Alien invasion story. The CGI graphics will be impressive. But beyond that this is just another Science Fiction with the "Aliens" The Locust destroying Humanity.
This has been done so many times. The best that can be hoped for is a decent Summer "popcorn" Movie. Like "Independence Day" A Gears of War Movie is going to fail Massively. Complete with Chessey dialog and Bad acting. The Storyline is just not there. As much as I love Gears of War Videogames. This is not strong material for a Movie.
1 Like Most recent Movie games I have seen were Tekken live actors (crap) and Tekken made with just CGI (very cool but was expecting crap so pleasan suprise). Resident Evil was a horrible addaption because they completely ruined the story that was pain stakingly layed out throughout the games. Resident Evil CGI movies were decent, the only decent live action game to movie adaption was Prince of Persia, but again I was expecting more crap before seeing it. SO just make GOW CGI, have Epic on board in development and use the same voice actors as the game.

@DarthLod @drknessfeeds I thought Silent Hill sucked -_- Bad script delivered by bad acting, bad CGI, bad side-stories, and it wasn't even scary...
I completely forgot about Silent Hill! Agreed that it was the best, still POP was decent for a game to movie adaption but like I said I was expecting crap to begin with.
5 Like Only video game movies I want to see are Halo and Metal Gear Solid. Anything else will probably end up being lame.
I wish they would just make one of these movies they've been talking about. Gears of War, Halo, Mass Effect, World of Warcraft, Assassin's Creed. They all would be cool on the big screen.
Gears of War movie....what a dumb idea...I wonder if there would be any sort of storyline or something close to a plot...
Same old plots they have used forever, multi-cultural cast so that everyone get's a piece of the racial pie, overdone CGI and explosions, bland cut and paste designs, one female sexy character, hidden politically correct message. Am I missing anything? No. Unless this is done outside of Hollywood it will surely be crap, just like the Mass Effect movie will be.

Glad to hear that, New Line Cinema's having something to do with it hey, good stuff.
I remember they did the first Mortal Kombat film and that was really good, plenty of gore, dark feel and the story and cast were mixed well too.
Alot of good 'material' with the gears of war universe especially the darker, gloomy tone of the first one, that will always be my favourite.
instead of making it a movie,make it a serie.The comics are AWESOME,but of course don t let Nickelodeon and specially Disney do it,make............... u know....a hard core serie with blood,gore,mature and sometimes a little languaje,THAT i garantee u will be EPIC
we know why Cliff left Epic Games now,if they screw up the franchise with a crapy movie i whould not like to show my face after that,imagine the creator of Dragon Ball Z(i don t remember his name)s face after watching that "movie".

1 Like The biggest reason, imo, as to why movies based on games suck is because they're always live action films. Does ever video game movie need to be live action? I'd much rather see an animated or CG film based on a game as it can have the same voice actors play characters that they've played for years. Plus, the writing for these movies always suck... and the acting... and the directing.

This movie could do well IF the aliens aren't depicted as morons or cheesy characters. Too much character detail can ruin a movie. Just give a little, clear back story on the creatures and focus on the mission and stories of the protagonists. Movies ruin dark characters often. Dark characters need a little mystery dammit!
Everybody knows that the rule for a movie based on a video game is that it have to suck.
It's funny because all the people hating the idea of a "Gears of War" movie will be the first one in the theater to watch it. Regardless if the movie is good or bad, it will make a lot of money because every fan will go to see it. So give it a chance!
People think going to prison is bad now, but that's nothing compared to what you might suffer through in the future. Just look at that pic!
