God of War: Ascension getting '300' DLC

Multiplayer character King Leonidas from popular 2007 action movie coming to Sony's new game for those who preorder at GameStop.
Gamers who preorder God of War: Ascension at GameStop can add Spartan hero King Leonidas from the 2007 action film 300 to their multiplayer ranks, Sony announced today. Those who reserve either the standard or collector's edition of the game will receive a voucher to download the character.
King Leonidas in God of War: Ascension will come with his signature red cape, helmet, and armor. Additionally, the character features his iconic spear, which Sony said has its own set of distinct combat abilities.
On top of the King Leonidas characters, those who preorder God of War: Ascension at GameStop will receive a 22" X "28 double-sided poster. It is not clear if the King Leonidas character will be made available for those who do not preorder the game.
This is not the first special promotion for God of War: Ascension related to a film. Earlier this month, Sony announced that those who pick up the Total Recall Blu-ray, which launches December 18, will receive a single-player demo for the game.
God of War: Ascension is a prequel to the original trilogy that will tell Kratos' origin story. It is due out March 12, 2013 exclusively for PlayStation 3, and includes a series-first multiplayer mode. For more on God of War: Ascension, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

If you think about it, these two do kind of go hand in hand. Kratos is, or was a Spartan, at least from what I remember.

@EtudE71 Offensive? the movie gave the persian army freaking rhinos! If anything, that painted the persian as people with massive balls.

Pretty cool but please to God make it so he doesn't run around yelling 'SPARTAAA' constantly, or generally say that line at all. Cashing in on a character is fair enough, but don't go cashing in on memes.
2 Like I know the fact that established franchises adding multiplayer is a tad bit dangerous because,in the sense that it gives the impression that every game needs a multiplayer. That being said, when you have francises that have had years to refine their core gameplay over so many games, (like assassins creed, which has an engaging multiplayer mode, and call of duty which had nearly a decade of games under its belt before modern warfare) adding a multiplayer mode might be a refreshing innovaton for a series. God of war has been around since last gen, and the people working at Santa Monica already know what makes God of War fun. In this case introducing a multiplayer wont make it tacked on, because in terms of raw gameplay not much is there to improve so the only fronts this game needs to excel in are narrative, and its multiplayer, because core combat as already been worked on to a near shine.
1 Like I don't own a PS3 and I have played a very tiny bit of God of War; but I do know what it is and i think that they should of just turned this into a SP campaign as a extra instead. Where Kratos joins Leonidas and his 300 soldiers to fight against a massive army in different battlefields where each one is different from the last. As they keep advancing in battle to destroyed the enemy forces, and if your teammates were to die on the battlefield they wont be able to come back and if they were injured durning the last battle then they will still be injured in the next to give the player the sense that if he doesn't keep pushing forward no matter how many of their soldiers are dying in battle. If he the player fails to help Leonidas save his country from the enemy than all hope is lost from them not you and when you're at the last battle this is were Leonidas will be able to die or live depending on you; but you shouldn't worry about him because well, he's the King of his country and a very tough soldier so he won't be able to be taken down so easily. So you the player won't have to feel like you have to baby sit him while you're fighting and whatever the outcome becomes of the battle will change the ending of that side story. Well that's my idea of how they should use this as a extra story for SP campaign. Like this if you like my idea thanks.

Thanks for your opinion, but as you aren't a fan nor do you own a PS3, it's probably not a good idea for Sony to do what you think as you aren't the target audience that buys their game.
That's like me saying I don't own a Wii, and I played a tiny bit of Mario, but I think...XYZ.
Not a good idea for anyone to listen to me if that were my point, as clearly in that hypothetical I don't have the foggiest. :P
@SolidTy Yeah your right but it just seems like they could of done something more with it then just getting a multiplayer character when you preorder. God of War isn't known for multiplayer because they have never had it before; they are known for their story and that's what the fans always came back to see; what happens next even though this is a prequel they still want to know. They have a chance to create something great with 300, that would make the fans who are into the story happy but also can make the fans who are into the multiplayer happy too by rewarding them with the character and an area; so why not both?
