Santa Monica developer says "we have to look at all opportunities"; Ready at Dawn developer says idea to have them make such a game was floated, but didn't come together.
Sony is considering bringing God of War to the PlayStation Vita and other mobile platforms.
In an interview with IGN, Sony Santa Monica senior director of product development Shannon Studstill said a PS Vita adventure for Kratos developed by Ready at Dawn (the studio behind God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta on the PSP) was "on the table." However, in a separate interview published today by Games Industry International, Ready at Dawn CEO Ru Weerasuriya said the idea was considered and dropped, explaining that "it just didn't align with what we wanted."
The PS Vita isn't the only platform that could potentially play host to Kratos. Studstill said Sony must also consider bringing its ashen Spartan (not to mention its other flagship franchises) to a wealth of emerging platforms.
"I think with the way the industry's playing that dysfunctional passive aggressive type of mentality, we as a company and we as an industry constantly have to look at all opportunities," Studstill said. "It doesn't mean we'll go there, but there's certainly reason to talk about it."
The God of War franchise's last outing beyond Sony systems was in 2007 with the mobile game God of War: Betrayal. The series' most recent new installment was 2010's Ghost of Sparta, though a PlayStation 3 HD compilation of the two PSP games was released last year. Rumors of the next God of War game have been swirling since a Sony Santa Monica job listing sought a multiplayer specialist to join the God of War team last year.
I would love to see a game that merge KRATOS and the lady from HEAVENLY SWORD together in a co op game:)
How many more spin offs can they make? There's already 2 or 3 just for the PSP but I guess if the Vita is struggling for unique titles more ports is the quick and not quite proper solution to the problem. That's being harsh I admit, Sony worked hard to make a lot of new IP recently but to make spin off after spin off seems a bit dodgy and makes the Vita look like it's getting hand me downs of bigger franchises.
be good to see the comparisson between the visuals and stuff since everyone bashes on about the vita being sub standard. Bring it everyone should enjoy God of War but i feel slightly let down, like uncharted it was exclusive to PS.
@leeko_link that will never happen as Nintendo won't let it happen. Nintendo has become the family game company and there for has less M rated games on their systems than Sony or Microsoft. The most Nintendo has is Resident Evil, and some hard to find Japanese titles. There are rumor of Darksiders 2 and Ninja Gaiden 3 on Wii-U, but who knows...? It seems more likely to get put on XBox, an Android Table, or iOS (iPad/ iPod Touch/ iPhone)
So Sony had no problem bringing the God of War to other platforms outside of their own huh. Will if that's the case then make a new God of War title for the 3DS and see the cash coming.
Question, what the hell else can Kratos do? The ending was left ambiguous as to whether or not he died or lived, he's killed most if not all the major gods on Olympus and he finally killed Zeus. So I ask again, what more can the man do? He's never getting his daughter back, and his wife will never be brought back to the world of the living. The only thing I can see him doing now is removing the ashes of his dead family from his body and burying them or something.
bad God of War bad, don't go to handhelds we need you on our PS3. Come to think of it calling Kratos bad would be an understatement but you guys know what i mean :)
Well.. I'm not really a fan of GoW, but it will sure as hell be good for the Vita. And that'll be good in the long run because I'll be buying one of them in a few months time! Mobile phones can sod off though, they do sweet bugger all for gaming :?
They already bringing all Sony's exclusive to PSV like Uncharted, Modnationracer, LBP, etc2... Of cause they will bring this too, but right now they just won't give any details and hope yet, usually because to avoid people to wait to long, they will announce once this game being developed 25% atleast... Most game developer is like that... :)
At Sony we don't have a clue what were doing ! Sony: Vita is everything we learned with the PS3/PSP good n bad and packaged into our success n failures to make what today is the Vita. Sony Fans: Do you got a God of War coming ? Sony: No you just can't make this sh!t up lol
Why wouldn't they work on a vita GOW game? Instant best seller. I can't even imagine how epic the visuals would be.
worthy IP to bring to the vita, hope its sooner rather than later. the vita momentum is slowing a little and this would probably slamdunk a pick up in vita sales.
This is about as game news worthy. As Nintendo putting a Mario game on another one of their systems.
It would make sense to have an entry of the series on the Vita. I really have not heard much at all about the Vita since it came out, and it doesn't seem like it had a very strong set of launch titles. Hopefully Resistance and COD can help it, and GOW will most likely be a good addition to the Vita's gaming library.
surppo god of war doesnt need to look at others game same category.... Its the king of the hack n slash genre nuff said...and plz darksiders seriously??? couldnt u find a crappier game than this trash u mention??
Fail. I don't care about mobile and handheld. I have ZERO interest in playing games on a tiny little screen getting headaches from it. Get rid of your freakin cell phones already. I refuse to own one, ever.
Time for Santa Monica to start a new series. GoW is overrated and now it is repetitive to a point where it is barely even fun to play. The developer has so much talent, they need to start fresh.
Could be? Of course it is.....who wasn't expecting this? that's like saying Legend of Zelda could be heading to the 3DS of course there will be a LoZ game for the 3ds at some point just like there will be a Gow for vita. quit wasting headline space gamespot
Yeah as others before me have pointed out, the headline is a bit deceiving. Should read more like: "Series devs believe that God of War should be on Vita, mobile platforms" - of course...slightly better headline than what I came up with lol
i love the franchise, but if they wish to continue i hope they expand the level design. i don't know how, i just know that the formula is getting kinda stale. maybe they could take a note from one of the games they helped inspire darksiders or was it riders.
'However, in a separate interview published today by Games Industry International, Ready at Dawn CEO Ru Weerasuriya said the idea was considered and dropped, explaining, "it just didn't align with what we wanted."' Seems like a Vita-original GoW is not actually happening, at least not developed by Ready at Dawn. Which is not surprising considering that Ghost Sparta (as good as it was) kind of tanked. Considering that the Vita installed base is a fraction of the PSP one (and likely to remain so for a very long time), I don't expect to see many big budget original games like a new God of War. (And yes, I own a Vita).
Of course its headed to Vita... This is news? "This just in, Mario may be headed to the Wii U!" ?_? EDIT: Alright GameSpot mods, quit downvoting me for pointing out your lazy stories.
