Leaked promotional retail material suggests ArenaNet's upcoming PC MMO game to debut at end of next month; dev calls date "pure speculation."
The poster for Guild Wars 2 was reportedly seen at electronics retailer Fry's in Texas. Fry's isn't the only retailer that believes the long-awaited title will arrive in June. GameStop's product listing for Guild Wars 2 indicates the title will ship on June 26.
ArenaNet addressed the speculation today on Twitter, writing, "As always, we have not announced a launch date to anyone. Any launch date you see that isn't directly from us is pure speculation."
Though no firm release date has been announced for Guild Wars 2, in January, ArenaNet confirmed the title would launch in 2012. Additionally, gamers can prepurchase the title today, and doing so grants users early access when it finally does hit.
Guild Wars 2 puts players into a persistent fantasy world that is driven by a range of dynamic events. When the game launches later this year it will cost a fee up front but will not require a monthly paid subscription to continue playing.

Initially I thought it was really close to ready as in each races beginning they throw you into some awesome stuff and give ya enough personal story and exploration to make you look past the little bugs like broken instances and NPCS etc. However as you get past all that and start running out of things to do you really start noticing how not ready the game really is, especially if you experienced the dungeons. Sure no trinity is fine, however there is no way in heck melee class should take the same damage as ranged classes, Not saying to make melee invincible but if ya wear heavy armor, are speced into stats that give vitality and make you do more damage then you should do just that and be able to take somewhat of a beat down in comparison to others. They still have alot of tweaking to do and have yet to test alot of features for lvl 35 and on..
When is Guild Wars 2 going to be released?
We expect to ship Guild Wars 2 in 2012. The final release date will be determined by beta-testing feedback. (this is what GW2 said)
Reading the feedback myself and participated the first BETA weekend i would say... probably in august or something
just check the official webstie and facebook page for release.. If a developer didnt post a release date on their own website its not true
I'm excited for this game. And I don't see why some people are upset with the article. I am always interested in possible leaks and rumors, and I am aware they may likely be false.
Anyway, I hope the release date will be announced soon.
I don't think this is as unrealistic as a lot of ppl on here seem to think it is. Stress testing is usually one of the final stages in the development process. Swtor had stress tests through November and early December and released mid December. The release date for swtor was also leaked by a retailer. (best buy I think)
Of course this is all assuming there wasn't some massive game breaking issue with the servers but only devs would know that for sure.
@Feyd87 you do know that GW2 had 1 open Beta test weekend right?! and 1 Day of stresstesting on a MONDAY.
some games are way to long in beta tho... Example is Warhammer wrath of heroes.. i think thats in BETA for more than half a year.
But anyway.. IF they would release the game like shown in this article they will loose a major amount of subscribers after the first month. There are way to many issues in the game
@lromeijn They have been in a close beta for a long time, possibly 6 months or more. Yes they just started doing open betas (stress tests) back in April but given that Swtor started those less than two months from when it was released it isn't completely unlikely that we could see this game in June/July.
Also, this game doesn't have subscribers, you buy the game and you are good to go, there are no additional fees.
And finally, you do know what the point of a stress test is right? It's to see what capacity their servers can handle. People being unable to log in or lot's of lag are normal and should be expected during a stress test. Yes they promote it as a chance for players to try out the game but it's really more for them.
June? I don't think so, August maybe. Either way I'm not jumping on this boat, I have already spent way to much and have my many expenses for the next upcoming months, mainly because of the Crystal White PS Vita lol
The fact that they've already started pre-purchasing means that the clock is ticking on when they have to release a product, (by law they can't hold the money indefinately). That being said, June 28 seems really aggressive. My guess all along has been a July/August launch
@northArrow Look at D3, they have pre-order far before they release the game. I wont be surprise if Anet is planning to have half year beta period.
Guild Wars 2 ? @GuildWars2
@djsaynt It wasn't a leak, we never gave anyone a release date. Many retailers are making guesses, but that's all they are: guesses. ~RB2

@abadgirl84 It's not fake news, they reported it as it is. Gamestop did tag the release date to June 28th, and Frys apparently created posters advertising such. This information may be false according to the dev, but Gamespot is just reporting what stores are saying. That's the news.
@chibi-acer It is not the new. GW2 twitter replyed to the comments .. They have not set a release date yet.. It is leaked info . Not what a game review site should be doing. Bring false info the the viewers.
gamespot stop doing crap like this and reading into the leaks and junk. Only report facts from the game devs..
I am not sure they can fix the bug within a month with so many bugs reported in the last BWE. I was enjoyed the game a lot in last BWE but I believe they can get even better if they don't try to rush the game out. I know most gamers can wait for a perfect launch rather than a launch like D3 at the moment.
For those who dont do research or read the internet. The FPS issues will not be there at release. The recent build used last month and this week's stresstest is CPU bound. That doesnt meant it will be like that at release. AND FYI, beta is currently also using a debug mode that runs in the background. Don't listen to people that don't do their research.
Anet working on game since years, game is cool even with the bugs lol, its no warhammer or rift in anyway
I'm pretty sure the developers said that the last beta weekend(2weeks ago) they only let the game use one core of your cpu and it didnt access the gpu at all, it used the on board graphics or something like that. I guess to see if the game can run on the crappiest computers out there
The game is crap right now especialy pve al l isaw during beta is that the pve in this game is a pure warhammer-rift clone
horrible FPS many many bugs..no way this game coming next month
@Albaficas its a BETA of course there's going to be bugs u douche
@Albaficas Ahem Warhammer/Rift clone with no monthly dues, that has count for something right?
@Albaficas clearly you didnt play alot.. If you compare this PVE with Warhammer you are an idiot. Warhammer has the worst PVE in any MMO.. But the power of Warhammer is the RVR.
When will ppl stop calling stuff clones.. im amazed you are not refering to the most annoying mmo EVER... WoW.
FPS was around 50 for like 90% of the time. and yes alot of bugs. thts why it is BETA, Maybe you should check out the system specs and buy a descent graphic card. cause most of the ppl whining about stuff like this can blame it on their own system.
by the way.. did you participate in the beta last monday?! it was running like a charm
@lromeijn I agree with you and I love the game, but about FPS I have 2 AMD Radron HD 6900 crossfire, and my average FPS is 30 (max setting)
compared to GW1 I get around 800
so I'm expecting alot of optimizing before release
@whocanibe that's great news, thank you for your reply
Crossife and SLI, not yet, note the not yet. Obviously will be there on release, that is too obvious, really. And as for the fps lag. The current build or the build that was used last month n this stresstest is CPU bound more or less.
@Outlaw_Hawk I'm pretty sure the developers said that the last beta weekend(2weeks ago) they only let the game use one core of your cpu and it didnt access the gpu at all, it used the on board graphics or something like that. I guess to see if the game can run on the crappiest computers out there
@Outlaw_Hawk GW1 has much lower graphical settings.. And it sux for you but GW2 doesnt support crossfire (read it somewhere) Maybe time to buy 1 good card? a FPS higher then 60 is useless since your screen refreshrate is 60hrz
and ofcause alot of optimizing will be done
@Albaficas if you know what beta stand for you will know that is expected to find bugs issues and in some times lots of errors not so good game play because is that is what a beta is for releasing to the public and receive feed back that is why beta are for week ends
Agreed that the game need A LOT of cleaning up. PvP is balanced enough, and just downright fun. PvE, however, is a train wreck. The classes mostly need reworking too, as anyone who thoroughly played through the beta could tell; namely the thief, warrior and necromancer. (oh god, the useless steal and awkward savage lunge!)
@Petnos only played engi and elementalist. Its lovely.. the first MMO i could spend more than an hour in PVE without getting annoyed about the quests..
i hate quests like pick up 100 spiderlegs and so on. So its refreshing
Not saying the concept of PvE was bad, but there were many things that needed to be fixed.
-Dynamic event bosses scaled so high that sometimes they could one-hit everyone with their AoE.
-Lots of abilities just didn't work well in PvE at all, like stealth (where enemies would instantly forget what they were doing, regain their health and charge back to their patrol routes the second you entered stealth, just as an example)
-PvE enemies hit far too hard, and didn't have enough health. I found I was either dying before I could execute any sort of technique or strategy, or they were. (Dying, that is)
That's kinda what AN is trying NOT to do... There is no dedicated tank in GW2, so everyone has to be able to take at least one hit from elite mobs.
Lol, I did notice that damn Fire Shaman more than most, but many others stand out.
@Petnos I think you are mentioning the shaman quest in Char starting zone. I only have problem with that boss even when I am using a lvl 25 ele. However, other bosses were not really that tough.
@Petnos This are event bosses and is not like takes forever to get you back up and hitting..Stop being squishie group mobs are bound to one hit anybody.. Plus this are event bosses you enter at your own risk as you can always run away..
@Petnos You probably died because you weren't moving and dodging, I haven't had problems with health.
You're right about the stealth though, it just doesn't work like this.
