Guitarist Brian May's comments pin the release of a Queen-specific title for 2011.
While both Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock and Rock Band 3 will use Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," fans of the heralded rock group might have more to enjoy next year.
Speaking with Swedish news site DN.se, Queen guitarist Brian May let slip the next band-specific music game from Activision. When asked about Guitar Hero: Queen, May confirmed the game's existence but kept mum on the project. He revealed only that the game will release in 2011 and will let users participate in the band's concerts.
This isn't the first time May has let loose details on the band's intent to appear in a band-specific music game. Preceding the release of Lego: Rock Band, a game in which some of the band's songs were featured, May said there was talk "behind the scenes" about a dedicated Queen Rock Band title.
Queen is no stranger to the self-titled music-game phenomenon though. SingStar: Queen, a karaoke title that released last year for PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, featured 25 songs from the band's career and was warmly received.
@tmt393 "Hard rock songs"? What about SONGS! That's right, since when is guitar hero specifically classified as "hard rock"? This is what I mean when gamers seem to think "NO! IT'S ONE WAY AND THAT'S IT! IT CAN'T BE ANYWAY ELSE!". That's your own failure to think outside the box. As for a a Queen Guitar Hero; it's a good choice. Very complex vocals, good musicianship, solid catalog. They could do ALOT worse.
might be interested when the details start to come in but as of right now.....no thanks i like queen and all but no thanks
@Keyboardsdemon I didn't say there's not many rocks songs I said there's not ENOUGH rock songs to fill (at least given Guitar Hero's songlists) twenty songs. Let me know we you learn to: 1. Read 2. Write with complete grammar 3. Obtain an understanding of what properly constructs a video game
@Hellcat- The Beatles Rock Band and a GH/Rockband Pink Floyd would be too much awesomeness for anyone to handle with all that great music and amazing colors
hmmmm Do we really need this? Especially a Guitar Hero version? I think it has been shown that the Band fixed guitar hero have VERY watered down set lists that are padded out with absolute rubbish! Look at Aerosmith, Metallica and Van Halen, they are an embarrassment. At least the rock band titles seems to et it right. Here's hoping for Rock Band: Guns N' Roses
@ stewbuilderpete OMFG that made my day. Good post good post. If he didn't shutdown from the previous posts, he should have then. I love you high horse stompers.
@Fusco1980 thats FANTASTIC.. This is great.. You are so cool you come on to an article and and insult a random video game's audience, but don't worry, its cool.. you play sax.. gotcha. Your entire claim was that rhythm game players don't want to play competitively and just like seeing pretty colors.. My drum duel was in regards to that. So, if you'd like to take me up on it, lets do it. I don't care if you play sax or really anything else :)
@fallin75 @Keyboardsdemon and at any other douchebag who thinks this game sounds like a logical idea. 1. I never said ANYTHING about Queen being a band (I could reference the fact that two-thirds of their music is theatrical, but that's a completely separate argument) 2. The point I was trying to illustrate which you may have been able to comprehend had you not been suffering from mental retardation is that Queen only has a limited number of hard rock songs. Having understood this point it would become blatantly evident that in order to create a music-based game Guitar Hero: Queen would have to include at the very least twenty songs (however knowing that Guitar Hero enjoys disappointing consumers by filling the other half of a band specific game with songs from other bands), but how many true hard rocks songs does queen have? NOT ENOUGH TO FIT A MINIMUM TWENTY SONG LIST as apposed to Green Day Rock Band's 47.
Yeah soo many complaining.. WOW you all must be used of getting everything you want apparently.. man you don't have to like GH or activision.. if I didn't know any better someone is pointing a gun to your head forcing you to bash guitar hero and continue with this CHILD term called MILKING I mean really are you that insolent geez grow up..no one cares that you have a problem with it, it will still sell and make a profite and the fans will be satisfied and well GH is better that is why they made a spinoff on GH instead of RB SO STOP CRYING you will get no pity here
For the people who hate activision why do you even come to the post and actaully post a comment.. no one is forcing you to do anything so just STFU and GTFO.. no one want to listen to your whinning, and see I told those RB fanboys that GUitar hero 6 was not gonna be the last one.. Come ON!!!! the best music game out would not go down that fast.. I mean get real children.. if you don't like it scram go play your out of date DLC music
@stewbuilderpete... HAHAHAHA! Wow, that dude reported me to the mods because I called him out on his douche-bagery. "I can play 16 instruments, and make real life pots and stuff that we use to role play with!" "What!? You play a video game that uses a plastic guitar! You're not as good as I am!" *end rant*
@Moloch121 Well, Nirvana is my second favorite band (Behind The Beatles) so I would like to see a game for them. I would also like to see Cream have their own game. But it has to be Rock Band.
Can we please stop with the band-centric music games? I was someone who used to play music games all the time but its been the same thing for 3 years now. Rock Band has enough DLC, Queen already has a music game, lets hope Rock Band 3 brings back the music game genre with real instruments and the keyboard.
Guitar Hero: Queen? They need a Rock Band, unless it's like Guitar Hero: World Tour, which also uses mic & drums. I'm excited. Just hope it's more content-rich than Green Day Rock Band, although just being able to play GD songs at all made me drop the $50 for it.
@Fusco I wonder what kind of games you DO like. You must like something because you're on a gaming website and you felt the need to comment. Do you like shooters? My cousin is a soldier, he's in Afghanistan right now. Don't challenge him to a deathmatch in Modern Warfare, he'll just say that he can headpop you in real life from 500 yards away in real life and that's MUCH more fun. Do you like racing games? Ninja, please. I'm a car expert. I built my own custom stockcar using house appliances, scrap metal, and a Maserati engine. She purrs like a kitten and calls me daddy and together we shred the streets at 120 mph. RACing games! - HA!... Do you like games like GTA? Don't even get me started on how many hookers I've beaten in my life. It's hard being a pimp. Games are fun, dude. That's all. And Rock Band is a fun game. That's it. It's cool that red, yellow, red, red, yellow, blue isn't fun to you. Really, it is. Move along, then. And take your flute with you.
@Fusco That's great that you play guitar and make pottery. Good for you. I play piano and guitar. I write plays. I write for video games. I mountain bike. I like long walks in the park, pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain. And every now and again on weekend nights, my friends and I get together and we enjoy some adult beverages and play Rock Band. And it's hella awesome fun (I do a mean Tom Petty, seriously). Fun being the key word here. Seriously, man, at what point do we decide someone is 'wasting time?' I could argue that you, sir, are wasting your time by making tumblers and plates. Why would you do this? The world has plenty of tumblers and plates, it doesn't need any more. You are clearly wasting your time. See what I did there?
@xblane I know but it's only because Queen is an old band but I honestly dont expect this to sell. I mean come on, They literally gave away copies of Van Halen when you bought GH 5 (or world tour, I know its 1 of them) and Im also sure that GH Van Halen hasnt even sold close to a million copies.I look down on all Band oriented GH and RB games because they dont use hit songs from the band, Like Aerosmith. They didnt have any of their big hits and no stuff from their later years, It was a joke. Anyone else agree that we will likely see a Michael Jackson GH or RB in the future? I also think Linkin Park will get one.
Lol Rock Band already released DLC that included pretty much all of Queen's greatest hits and Rock Band 3 has Bohemian Rhapsody. Another Activition/Guitar Hero fail; try to keep up with the times fellas ;)
Is Guitar Hero even relevant in the music gaming scene anymore? With all the pushes Rock Band is making, why on earth would anyone look at washed up, over milked, Guitar Zero? Not to mention, it is supported by Activision, the crappiest company in the industry. Rock Band FTW.
I wish they had announced rockband Queen instead :( I would rather be emulating Freddies piano work than Brians guitaring but whatever... @fyrflash1969 I would like to play along to my fairy king but thats not gonna happen :( still buying though don't get me wrong.
like I did with green day rock band, guitar hero metallica, and guitar hero van halen i'll skip thank you
The market is already over flooded with retail music games thanks mainly to Activision. Just make this a DLC album for Rock Band 3 for gods sake. The show must go on.
Queen : rock band is a better idea than Guitar Hero. The new Rock band has pro mode plus a keyboard peripheral. I
This will be wasted on GH. I can only hope Brian May thought the guy meant Rock Band when asked about GH, he doesn't look like a gaming kinda guy lol
Now I'm bummed. I was rather entertained by Rock Bands new idea to use instruments CLOSER to real. But now if Queen is doing Guitar Hero it'll be back to the 5 button slog all over again :-( Queen should have been one of the FIRST Guitar spin-offs. EVERYONE head-bangs out to Bohemian Rhapsody. It's practically a REQUIREMENT.
