Port of arcade game to also be playable at this year's Tokyo Game Show.
With the popularity of the Gundam series always high, gamers can expect different video game takes on the mecha franchise. Publisher Namco Bandai recently revealed to Famitsu that the PlayStation 3 version of the arcade game Gundam EXTREME Vs. will be hitting Japan shelves on December 1. The game will retail at 8,380 yen ($109).
According to a Famitsu interview with game director Tetsuya Akatsuka and producer Yoshitaka Goto, the PS3 version will be based on the latest build of the arcade title. New features include an online network mode, a practice mode to test out a mecha's move set, the game's fighting system, and a BGM edit mode that lets fans use custom soundtracks from their PS3 consoles.
Akatsuka and Goto also mentioned that the latest PS3 build will be playable in this year's Tokyo Game Show. In addition, Namco Bandai will be holding a Gundam EXTREME Vs. arcade tournament at the show.
Developed by Capcom, the fighting game made its debut in the arcades last year on September 28. The game features different kinds of Gundam mechas to control from the first Mobile Suit Gundam series right down to the latest SEED entries. The game's fighting system features the extreme action move where players can cancel an action using an evasive maneuver like a step cancel or a dash.
Players can also use the extreme burst skill to boost up their Gundam mid-battle provided that their EX burst gauge is over half full. Stay tuned for GameSpot's upcoming coverage on the PS3 version at this year's TGS.

nothing will ever beat Federation Vs. Zeon. i played that game forever and took awhile to beat and had the best multiplayer. if you like gundam and never played it i suggest you get it.
@ElFlechero, while this may be true, the other system allows it for every game available, and I believe they have the same amount of ram (too lazy to check). Whether or not it takes away from the mood, I have a choice on that other system and I would like the same choice on the PS3.
@lowkey254 some games would be totally wrong with different music playing, for example, Uncharted. Also, many games wouldn't be able to achieve the same graphic detail without the ram they'd have to set aside for custom soundtracks, for example, Uncharted.
Neat. I hope its better then the last couple of gundam games to come out. It would be nice for the gundam series to get proper game worthy of being on consoles.
cool! the Gundam games I still play from time to time are Gundam Battle Assault 1,2, Journey to Jobaro, DW Gundam 2, [ DW Gundam 3 I will get that soon ] and Mobile Suit Gundam Zionic Front. I wonder if they are going to make a Gundam game the one that is airing on SY-FY channel.
Sony messed up by giving developers the option to add custom soundtracks. They should have made it mandatory. BGM edit mode shouldn't be an option, it should automatically be there. That being said... I like Gundam!
@Yulaw2000 Blame the weak US Dollar for it. Japan said it will try to devalue Yen in the next few weeks to keep their exports competitive globally. Unfortunately, it will still be expensive.
Bah, I saw this and thought that it was coming stateside. Why must we only get the crappy games? They released Crossfire, but Battlefield Record 0081 was a no-no? "Ooh, look, Koei's releasing another Gundam Musou game with like 5 new playable mobile suits, we should totally localize that and leave what's probably the best Gundam game ever made just for Japan and Asia."
At last! ^_^ Wait, no bunch of new mobile suits like with Next plus? Don't like that. Now, to keep crying for the mostly improvable localization. That's expensive as hell to import in a language I don't understand at all. @IronBeaver or anyone who thinks the same All I know is you haven't played Next Plus or even Assault Survive or it's predecesors. You're only mostly right, but dodn't ignore this gems
Very awesome. =) Just wish they'd give it a Western release. Why must licensing be so complicated over there?
To those who thin they all suck, I guess you never played Earth Federation vs Zeon. This game is made by the same guys.
@HughBonner Clearly you've never played DWG3, or the game they're talking about in this article, because they're both great games.
